It'll be my first tri by the way... Good luck on the first Tri. Im very excited for mine in April. |

We just got back from California, visiting family for Christmas. It rained most of the time - what's up with that? I didn't take my bike, as I didn't have room. Now I'm back in the Northwest with ice and snow on the ground. I'll hit the treadmill tomorrow, and get my bike trainer setup in the next few days. (My wife says I need to clean my bike first...don't want dirt flying on the walls.) I wondering how my calf will feel, having injured it in the fall. I will take it slow. Next week I plan on getting in the pool and seeing how my shoulders fell (yes another injury...skiing). Anyone else live in the Northwest? Greg Ahh the great NW. My husband is from Puyallup, WA. It is so beautiful up there. I would love to live there. How was the treadmill, bike and pool. Did you get them all in? Hope your injuries are healing well. |

I just wanted to stop by and tell you all that you got a great menotr in Chet. He was in the same mentor Group with me in the past. Looks like you all have taken off nicely. Keep it up! Expert 653![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Henderson, NV | Subject: RE: Chet's Group is out doing it!- Closedquestion for the group: Socks or no socks? I pride myself in being efficient in transition so I don't wear socks on anything less than an Olympic. Tri suit under my wetsuit so all I have to do is strip the suit and put helmet and glasses on and off I go. Wet feet make it tough to put socks on. Anything over a Sprint I put socks on because comfort out weighs speed at that point. Have you tried sockless? |

Expert 1038![]() ![]() Noosa | Subject: RE: Chet's Group is out doing it!- ClosedHi Sheila, the picture is Noosa Heads National Park on the Sunshine Coast In Queensland, it's a beautiful place to go for a walk or run and have a swim; often see Koala's in the trees and dolphins in the Ocean. I saw a whale leap out of the water last time I ran there! Edited by copa2251 2011-01-04 7:23 PM |

I sometimes run sockless for runs under one hour, did 45 mins last night sockless, feet fine today despite some sand in shoes. |

62![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: Chet's Group is out doing it!- ClosedMy goals for this month: 1. Work on building my base back up (at least in the bike and run) after a few weeks off. 2. Physical therapy for my finger. 3. Work on loosening up my right hamstring. It's gotten tighter and tighter over the last year. I'll focus on stretching, sitting on a tennis ball (hey, it works) and some yoga. |

Wore socks for my first tri then went sockless all of last season, 5 sprints and 1 almost Oly. I didn't have any special shoes, just a pair of Brooks Adrenaline's but I worked up to race distance a little at a time. I still do not wear socks when riding, but I am wearing them for running now because I am training for a half mary and will wear them for that race. |

New user 19 | Subject: RE: Chet's Group is out doing it!- ClosedChet I think I lost to my buddy last sprint race because he went sockless and I went with socks. His t1 and t2 were so much better. I may give it a shot in my next sprint but not sure about wildflower. Too many hills which means too much movement in my shoes, going up and down. Big biking weekend and painful hill interval run today. I need to ease off a bit and take advantage of my rest. Robert Edited by kacerrob 2011-01-05 1:39 AM |

Veteran 182![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Joplin, Missouri | Subject: RE: Chet's Group is out doing it!- ClosedAll RIGHTY!! I am going to have to keep up with you guys & gals on this thread!! LOL. Socks...always socks. No "big" workouts for the week or month. Just working on some base & consistency. Finally got over my hip strain from the Vegas Half Marathon in December (took almost a month). And realize that I need to spend more time at the 5-8 mile range before addin mileage ... And lose about 55 pounds. Running is my weak sport so my plan is to really really spend the next 3 months really building a solid, injury free, running base. The "A" race I have picked has a tough, hill of a run. My goal is to do it better, faster, stronger than I did in 2006.

Expert 653![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Henderson, NV | Subject: RE: Chet's Group is out doing it!- ClosedYou can make up good time in transition. It is worth some practice as you get closer to the race (even putting socks on wet feet). Keep it simple and have a plan. It is better to recover on the bike and run moving forward than in transition sitting still. Cut back week for me then peak mileage week. Taper starts the 16th!!! Get a BQ and it is triathlon time!! |

Regular 79![]() ![]() ![]() Henderson | Subject: RE: Chet's Group is out doing it!- ClosedHello everyone, hope ya'll are having a great Wednesday. I started my day off with a spin class with Daneen. I haven't been i a gym in forever. I much prefer the outdoors! Calves started buring a bit when standing up/climbing so I backed off that. No injuries for Saturday!!! My first 1/2. Whoohoo. Suzi, I know what you mean about keeping up with the boards. I have to work on getting on here everyday to keep up, lol. Glad your injury is healing up and you can get back to some activity. Feedback needed please: What is the difference between a TRI suit and a Wetsuit? Is the wetsuit b/c the water is cold? Is the tri suit for swim, bike, run so no change of clothes? I dont know what to do for my first TRI. I have to buy everything so trying to make it as cost effective the first time to see if I will continue with Tri's. Thanks for any feedback on this subject. Have a great night! ![]() |

Expert 653![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Henderson, NV | Subject: RE: Chet's Group is out doing it!- ClosedSheila- Tri suit or tri shorts and a tri top is what you wear under the wetsuit. You wear it on the swim, bike and run so you don't have to change. The tri shorts have a smaller pad so you have some padding for the bike but it doesn't feel like a diaper on the run. Tri shorts and top are easier in the Porta Pottie A wet suit makes you a faster swimmer and will keep you warmer. The lake is still pretty cold in April. What a wetsuit does is puts you in the right postion, flat. New swimmers tend to drag there legs which slows you down. A triathlon specific wetsuit is thinner in the shoulders so you can move your arms and thicker in the legs so your legs float. The bouancy helps as well. It will give you a sense of security in the open water. Anything over 500 m is worth putting on the suit. You can rent wetsuits for the event which is much cheeper. I don't recommend this though because you need to get used to the suit. It can be restricting around the chest and takes practice to get on and off. They have reasonable prices on suits if you shop for them but recommend trying them on first. They stretch out with use but that first time can a workout You don't have to have one, there will be those without them. I know a lot of athletes that will only race if they can wear them though. They make a big difference. |

Notice that the Tri wetsuits are "rubberized" and the plays to less drag in the water. Regular neoprene suits have much more drag. The tri wetsuits also have "panels" that provide and immense sense of "position" in the water and (like Chet has already stated) buoyancy. It really helps. |

Expert 1051![]() ![]() ![]() Bradenton, Florida | Subject: RE: Chet's Group is out doing it!- ClosedEasy 30 min spin on the indoor trainer and an abs workout. Hopefully I can squeeze in my workout tomorrow during my lunch break. It's great to hear all the different opinions on what to do. Never wore a wetsuit before, but will be renting one for St. Anthony's in May. Should have it 2 weeks before the race to get a feel for it. During the summer there is no need for one in Florida. The coldest water last season was 80 degrees. |
