What did everyone do today??? have you been drinking???water of course

I did a 90 minute interval trainer ride with the music blaring, follwed by a short swim and an hour of weights. It was my day off...from work. I ate very well, but we are into the night when I typically fail. The scale will tell all on Monday!!!

Still struggling with the water, I drink to much coffee. Tomorrow is my no train day. Homework in the AM, then school in the PM.

help, please?

my BT run workout instrutcions for tomorrow read like this:
Speed
Strength
60
WU: 10' includes 4x20" strides.
MS: Then 40' tempo run at LT or 10k could be substituted.
CD: 10'

What is meant by "at LT" ?
other times the plan will clearly state "Z4," so I have to assume LT is not equal to Z4.   If LT is the max HR of 176 that I reached in my treadmill test, I'm doomed, because there is NO WAY I can maintain that for 40 mins.  Last week I had a similar workout with 30 mins "at LT" and I struggled just to keep HR in Z4 for that long.

I am still confused about where and I am supposed to paste that nice list with all Mav's members. Can someone please explain in very simple terms. Is there some way to paste the whole list at once, or do you have to paste each individual person in your "friends" list? Like I said, I'm confused. Thanks in advance.

Hi Erin, LT is an abbreviation for "Lactate Threshold." There is an explanation of all those fancy terms under the heading of "beginners," here: http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/cms/article-detail.asp?articleid=... be honest, my eyes start to glaze over when they start using those kinds of terms, but eventually I guess I'll be interested in that sort of thing. Right now, I'm just trying to get more fit by following my beginning plan.

Hope that helps you decipher things,

Peppah

OK, here's another stupid question: How do you send somebody an "inspire." Some of you have been so kind as to send me an inspire but I have no idea how I'd go about sending somebody else an inspire.

Peppah - 2012-01-17 9:58 PM OK, I have done it, actually signed up for a race. The Title 9 Women Only Spring Tri in Hopkinton on Sept. 9. I signed up for the "newbie" category just to be on the safe side, although there are a couple other categories I could have signed up for, if you know what I mean.

Cool I got ya!  My only experience is with MaxPerformance but always impressed.

YAY Peppah   It will be great!  I've also heard that folks love the MaxP races -

BTW, I race 'Athena' Innocent

Me too!  I actually took 1st in a race in August.  All the fast big girls must have stayed home that morning.

First day of classes.  While I thought my day was gonna be a "slow" day, I forgot that I spend 2 hours in the car and then I am supposed to do HOMEWORK!  I ended up having NO TIME yesterday.  Par for the course.  It'll take a bit to get back into the swing of things.

And I forgot my water at home.  I was so mad!  And thirsty.  Fail on water yesterday.  Nutrition wasn't horrible.

What's everyone up to today?  I am hoping to ride the trainer before class today followed by a run this afternoon.  Again, we'll see where I fall out time wise.  My major focus today is to prepare for my son's IEP meeting tomorrow.  We received a fax from our special ed director yesterday (in response to a letter my team sent) that tells us that what we are asking for is probably going to be denied.  For no good reason.  Silly.  So now we finalize our plan of attack and prepare for battle.

Erin, LT is lactate threshold- that article does a great job explaining it, but Z3-Z4 is probably where you want to be. What I would recommend if you cant sustain that speed is to run for as long as you can at that speed, then walk. Let your HR "reset" and do it again. You are training you body to accept that speed. Hope that helps you. What doesnt kill ya will make you stronger. Speed workouts are hard!!!

I put the list in the top part of my blog. You can cut and paste it after you hit the edit button in that area...then put it in. You can choose to make everyone a friend...it just takes longer to add them to your friends list

Nancy to respond to inspires do the following...click on inspires...in each persons message there will be a little box that says "reply" if you click that you will be able to send the other person a message. When you finish writing the message...hit submit.

Joel, glad you like the Finis MP3 player...it will make the longer pool swims tolerable.

Erica, good luck at the meeting, stand your ground, dont let the a**holes get you down!!!!

I have a busy day today. 5 mile run followed by a chiro appt, lunch with a friend, work. I did drink my water yesterday. I am taking my food log to work today so I dont overeat!!!

Ah, thanks for that; I like your interval plan better than just pushing it in Z4 the whole time. I figured LT correlated to some HR; wish they'd just say 85% or upper Z4. I should swim but it will be rough with a head cold so will try to run.

I don't mean to butt into your MG Mav but I have to tell your mentor group that you are an awesome Mentor.  Over time, I feel everyone will realize it but just wanted to let everyone know that Mav was one of the people that got me from a sprint tri one year to an IM the next.  Many people will help you along your journey no matter what it is but there are a few that really help you without even really knowing how much an inspire or a kind word means.   I was struggling to swim a 1000 yards before Mav starting giving me some advice.  I also use to look at her workout logs for ideas.

You all are in good hands.  Good luck to you all and refer to Mav.  She knows what she is talking about (most of the time).  Tongue out

Erica, good luck at your son's IEP meeting tomorrow...  Your son is very lucky to have you as such a strong advocate for him.  I hope the meeting goes better than planned and your request is granted.

I'm taking a rest day today.  Skipping my usual spin class b/c I feel like my legs are tired and trying to recharge them for tomorrow's run.  Running is more important to me right now since my 1/2 mary is coming up.

Hope everyone is having a good day!!

That article was pretty impressive. My Dad has a friend who was recently featured in Runners World. He is 90 and still runs 5K races. He is an amazing guy. My parents spent New Years with him this year...he thinks triathletes are crazy. His one goal when he retired was to be retired as many years as he worked. He has done that and credits his health and mental alertness to exercise and running.

Thanks for the kind words John!!!!! John was part of the mentor group I belonged to...he is one of the "fast kids"...he runs 7min miles. We both had similar knee issues and surgery and struggled ( and whined) together through it. Great friendships are made on BT.

How did your run go Erin??? I am a huge fan of the run /walk. Sometimes I just walk long enough to bring my HR down to a comfortable rate. It seems to help me alot.

Hope everything went Ok Erica!!

Meeting is today at 1:00.  I feel very prepared so that usually means I will not be ready for what they throw at me.  But Bry and our IICAPS team will be there and Cole's doctor has offered to be conference called in if they give us a hard time (we are only asking for his primary disability category to be changed from OHI-ADHD to Autism.  His Axis 1 diagnosis are PDD-NOS, ODD and ADHD so we are not sure why they are fighting us on this).

I'll keep you all posted!

So sorry   I'm surprised the IEP committee won't accept the medical judegment.   We submitted our developmental workup from Children's Hospital, and it was as though the school comittee stood up straight and saluted.  I hope it works out for your son very soon!

They pretty much fight us on everything.  It took three years just for them to give him an IEP and that was with me quoting the law to them.  They are just a pain in the arse.  We'll be hiring an advocate for next year since we want him to be placed out of district since our school doesn't have a program that can address his academic, social and behavioral needs.  That will be fun to fight for. :/

So I'm looking into getting a long sleeve wetsuit and a bike for the triathlons! Any advice on a cost-effective solution for both?

P.S. Erica- Just keep swimming! Things will look up for you, keep fighting!
