My weekend will be one well-earned rest day, and a swim and 6-8 mile run the other day. They are redoing our neighborhood pool next year, so I'm going to some meetings on that...I would love some lap swim time (not just kids peeing in the pool time).

Reminds me of a sign my neighboors had at their pool.

"Welcome to our Ool. Notice there is no 'P' in our Ool. Let's keep it that way."

Made me want to do it out of spite.

Provided a hang over is not in the mix (like last saturday), there will be a long bike ride and some weights on sat, followed by a run on sunday with a splash of yoga to try and regain some flexibility, maybe even hit bed, bath, and beyond, but I don't know if there will be enough time.

Sounds like a plan...except for the whole hangover thing.

Planning on resting Saturday and doing a 12 mile run Sunday. Last night, I watched NBC's Kona IM coverage. It was quite inspirational, especially that guy with no legs..very humbling...

Good weekend... Got in a brick - 7 mile bike and 3.1 mile run. Longest I have been on the road with the bike - Takes some getting used to with not being able to see cars coming up on you - A lot different than running. Then did a casual 8 mile run on Sunday. I went out and bought the Asics Kinsai shoes and am putting the 2130s on the shelf - hoping a little more support and comfort for the blister situation.

Hopefully the blister situation will go away finally.

How did you feel on the brick?

All-

if you have some time (and/or a DVR) try to watch this show on Discovery:

http://dhd.discovery.com/tv-schedules/special.html?paid=66.12344.12...

It's about two VERY amateur cycling enthusiasts training to do the 16th stage of the Tour de France (the crazy climbing stage).

I saw that last night - pretty good - It was amazing that some guy off the street finished the stage in only 30 minutes behind what Lance Armstrong did it in - Can you say natural talent?

Sad news,

I found out there is a scheduling conflict on the date I was going to do my first tri. So now I must begin the hunt to find a new first triathlon to set as my goal, oh well.

And I asked them to reschedule the wedding but they would not do it...selfish.

Well, hopefully everyone's week is off to a better start than mine. I messed up my rear wheel on Saturday to the point of ruining it. So I got to buy a new rear wheel last night. Woohoo!

It wouldn't be so bad if I wasn't planning on getting race wheels in a couple of months.

not sure if this has been brought up yet, but what's everyone's breaking point - temperature wise - for riding outside vs. riding indoors on a trainer?

I usually don't have any problem above 40. Once it gets down into the 30s, it depends on the wind. 30s and no wind I can handle. 30s and windy...no dice.

Happy Wednesday folks!

Josh's race report for his kick tail half marathon is up. Go check it out! Congrats Josh!

Oh, I watched the Chasing the Dream thing last night. Very cool to watch, although (SPOILER ALERT!)I did get ticked off at one of the guys. I don't care how tired you get - DON'T QUIT.

yeah, that guy was probably just happy to get a free Madone out of the deal...And they said he lost 22 pounds, but I didn't notice that...maybe 2.2?

hey all-

have questions regarding getting "lean." I've been training and logging what I've been eating/drinking since October, and while I can tell I'm getting a little leaner (clothes a little loose, using a different belt notch, my endurance and workouts are improving, etc.) my weight has actually only dropped about 6 pounds. Certainly not the ~2 lbs/week that I was half expecting by now...

Is this a fairly common trend among noobs? Is it the loss of fat and increase in muscle density? At some point, once your muscle is built up, does your body start shedding fat/weight at a higher rate? thanks!

That's what I've seen as well.  I've even seen people not lose any weight, but by burning fat and adding muscle, their body composition is completely different. A good indicator for this is body fat percentage, which it sounds like for you is dropping now. Once you have your muscles built up to a certain point, like you said, you should see more weight coming off. Again, can't stress this enough, training aerobically (semi-conversational pace rather than all out) will help you burn more fat as well.

I have the same exact thing happening to me. All of my pants now don't really fit - I have gone down probably 2 pant sizes and have to sinch my belts pretty tight to not moon the world. I am staying pretty steady around 220.
I am hoping to shed the weight soon - you watch biggest loser and I know we are working harder than they are.
The best thing - and I'm sure you agree is just how good I am starting to feel. Less stress, healthier feeling, etc. Keep up the good work - I am experiencing the same thing.

Great comment about the biggest loser, my girlfriend was watching that show and I thought to myself exactly the same thing.

For a positive note, I stopped being lazy about 2 1/2 months ago and for the first 2 months did not drop a single pound, and I am a big guy so I thought it would have just poured off, than, all of a sudden a couple weeks ago, I started dropping weight out of the blue (now 6lbs in about 2 weeks). So just be patient, I know I can't, but maybe you can.

My wife is out of town this weekend so i get to spend the weekend with my 2 year old daughter by myself.  It will be fun, but it doesnt leave alot of time to get workouts in except for after she goes to bed.  Strength and core tonight, Bike trainer tomorrow night, and hopefully i can get a run in on Sunday. We will see about that one.   Have a good weekend everybody!!!!
