I feel like such a slacker! No bike time yet!

Was in Denver, CO from 7th through the 11th visiting my sister.  Her and her husband just bought a house, and mom and I went to visit.  Got some activity while I was there but last week was a bust as far as training.  Got back on Tuesday for a lovely Personal Training session ... and honestly couldn't imagine working out yesterday because my legs were so sore!

Anyone have any ideas on how to make my muscles recover a bit quicker after Personal Training!  I know that I try and eat and drink right after to help ... but last session and this one I feel like it puts me on the sidelines for a few days before I can get back to working out!

Will try to get on the bike today after work, but I know it will be an easier ride, as legs are burning!

Jennie, I think the best thing is to make sure you stretch really, really well after your workout. Hope you enjoyed your vacation. Glad you were able to get on the bike for an hour.

Just hate that I feel like I loose two days after my personal training.  But as I get stronger I think it will be better.  Worked out on Saturday with the same "routine" as Tuesday and felt GREAT!

Looking forward to more workouts as well.  Finally pulled the trigger and signed up for my first Sprint Tri ... so now I have a set deadline

the more you do the better you'll feel...   when you say personal training, do you mean a personal trainer at the gym with weights and stuff????   Instead of taking those 2 days off, could you maybe get a swim in or maybe ride the stationary bike??  just some suggestions....

great job signing up for a race....  you are going to do great....  be sure to ask lots of questions we are all here to help.

Yes a Personal Trainer at the Gym ... and she kicks my butt!

My fiance got me a package for Christmas because he knew that I wanted to get my arms in shape for the wedding and for it to help me with muscular endurance and motivation for my Tri.

Usually the day after our session (every other Tuesday afternoon) I am in such pain that I can barely walk or sit   But I am a wimp.  I do have to say that when I got on the Bike on Thursday my legs were hurting a bit but felt better after the bike.  So I need to suck it up and swim or bike through the pain Great suggestion! I also think that as I get stronger it won't be as bad ... or at least I hope

Hi Jennie,

It's great you have a personal trainer and congrats on signing up for your first race. It's a great feeling to have a race to work towards.

I noticed you said you can barely walk after a session because you are in too much pain. My question would be if you are lifting too much weight....you don't want to get hurt. I'm not a great one on advice for lifting, but it sounds like 2 days is alot for soreness. Maybe I'm totally off, but it's an idea. How did your trainer come up with the amount you would lift? Did she get a max. weight and then take a percentage of that?

John's advice to get in the pool or on the bike the day after your session is a great idea. It may help your muscles as well.

Hope your wedding planning is going well!!! I know it's so exciting.

Thanks!  Right now I am not using more than 10 pound weights, sometimes 20 pounds plates on the cable.  The soreness comes from doing 2 sets of 30 reps ... and my legs are not used to doing that many squats or hamstring curls (even if it is just lifting my own weight).  I have talked with my trainer about it and she siad that my muscles need to get used to the stress we are putting on them right now ... and might take a bit.  I think you are right for me to get in the pool at least - as I love it there so I don't loose that many days of training.

I do have a question regarding Bike Helmets.  My co-worker has a road bike that she has not used in ages she said and wants to give it to me to train with (we are generally same build, same shoe size, and same height).  So I need to get a helmet ... and I am just not sure if there are different kinds out there ... or what to look for.  Kind of an amateur questions, but any information advice would be appreciated!

first let me say there is no amateur question in here.

sure give it a shot.. just make sure it fits right when it's all buckled up... you don't want it be moving all around your head like its loose and everything...  you don't want it to be real tight under your chin, then again you don't want it to be real loose...  make sense???

One more thought on the post-personal trainer workout.  Make sure to get some protein in the hour following your workout.  It will help with muscle recovery.  I'm a fan of chocolate milk but Kashi bars (including the granola) have tons of protein, are very portable and aren't so nasty to eat.  Oh, and stay hydrated.

I remember the early days of weights and literally thumping down the stairs after having my legs hammered.  It was as amusing as it was painful.

My totals for 2/8-2/24: 2:55.

As for next month, I would like to get swimming and I think a swim challenge sounds like a good motivator. I hope everyone is doing well!
