Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Gary - I use Endurolytes as well. You really need to watch your sodium in the heat that you and I train and race in all the time. I ran yesterday in 88 degree heat. My face actually got sunburned. I am not sure our northern friends will feel sorry for us....they will probably reply that the 110 degree weather is coming....are you reading this Mav? The bike sounds like it is coming along very well. Keep working on clipping in and out....stopping and starting....these techniques are important to be confident when the need arises. The long ride in May sounds nice. I am doing a 10k on Saturday and a 50 mile ride on Sunday next weekend. You were talking about a race in May - CapTexTri is one of the biggest in TX but it is quite a ride from Baton Rouge to Austin....it is on Memorial Day and there will be about 3000 participants flying around downtown Austin...it is a great race and a great race course. You might also check out Houston....not as far and there are some great races around there. where is everybody..... sTRIve |

![]() | ![]() I have been on my bike!!!!! Logged 290 miles so far this month and its only been over 50* once. SO QUIT telling me how warm it is in Texas!!!!!I froze my a$$ off yesterday. It was only 40* but the wind was so strong it felt like 20's...I managed 30 miles, but I was cold. Today I did 60 miles on my HIM course. It was 40* when we started and 53* when we finished. The wind was pretty strong ( but less than yesterday). I was able to avg over 15mph despite the weather which should translate into a decent bike split by race day. I actually felt like I could run at least 6 miles when I got off the bike. I know thats a far cry from 13...but its progress. Dan is in Fla...tanning himself! I am jealous ![]() Where are you Pete????? Leston ????????? |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Mav - I am sunburned.....hehe.....sorry it was so cold....it was windy here too. I just ordered a new bike seat from CobbCycling.....this guy designed the Adamo ISM seat a few years ago and ran Blackwell Research for a while as well. He is on his own now and has manufactured the V flow plus....it really looks nice. I have the Adamo on my tri bike and am going to put this on my road bike....then we will see if we need to order another one for the tri bike....looks like a great seat....I can't wait for it to get here. Sounds like you are ready for your HIM now....keep up the great work..... Leston - you could have built a house from the ground up by now.....where are you? Dan - Florida.....did you swim/bike/run as much as Mav on the vacation challenge? sTRIve |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Mav - I have looked forward to this day for quite some time.....now please Lord....LET HER GET A JOB!!!! A really good job.....so someday she can take care of me |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Bryan - congrats! and good luck on her getting a job. Made some last minute adjustment of the cleats and pedaling improved a little. Aero Drink is set. I just found out there will be 3 waves (20-49 males, 2nd - all females, 3rd - rest of males) and my group goes first. I was hoping for last. Packet pickup is tomorrow night. Water temps aren't looking good and am hoping for mid-60's. This is going to be tough with highs in the 70's and predicted scattered thunderstorms. Please let the rain stay away! Will be fun no matter how it turns out! |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey folks - I'm back. Seem to have been in a "funk" lately. No idea why and nothing serious. Just a wee bit of "woe is me" and less motivation to train than is the norm. Enough of that - here's some good news to share:
And of course, Monday is Boston marathon day so I'll be sneeking a few glances at the on-line coverage as I work. Cheers!! FBP |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hope you guys don't mind, but I'm going to mosey on to another mentor group. It's been great getting to know you guys. |
![]() ![]() |
![]() | ![]() Pete I will be at the start line on Marathon Monday. I hope to assume my spot that I had last year which means getting there between 6-7 am. I'll be smiling for the cameras!!! Next year I think I will run. I wont qualify but I can get a charity bib!!! Congrats on your sons admission. Its nice when they begin to leave the nest. Sounds like you are coming out of your funk!!!! Gary GOOD LUCK ON YOUR RACE!!!!!! Cant wait to read all about it!!! You have trained so well...go and have fun!!!!! |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Scuba - Sorry to see you go! Please stop by when you get the chance. Mav - Sounds like fun! Picked up my race packet, nice shirt, etc. Light blue swim cap and my race number is 8. I am assuming they assigned numbers based upon when you registered, I guess I registered pretty early! Nerves are on end a little about the swim tomorrow. Yep, I have practiced, etc. I can do the distance but it will be a long time in the water. Air temps will probably be in the 60's along with water temps. Weather for tomorrow, chance of thunderstorms, wonder what they will do. I am assuming either cancel or delay if lightning, everything else HTFU? Picked up a bunch of gels for tomorrow and am going to practice taping one to the bar, any tips? Diane - hope things are getting better, must be a tough time. Vibes your way. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Gary - GOOD LUCK on your race! I know you'll do well... I can't wait to hear about it! Yep, life can be challenging at times, but I look at Paulette and count my blessings ![]() To the rest of you - It's tough to post here when I'm not training... PT is going well, and I'll get re-evaluated on the 30th. I'm still signed up for a Sprint Tri on May 9th, but I doubt I'll do it... I'll make that decision after the eval. I have also decided not to do the Half Marathon in Seattle - what's another DNS? When PT is done, I'll get back to training and do what I can... 1st and foremost... STAY HEALTHY!!! |
![]() ![]() |
Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Shark - nothing to worry about. There are a lot of races coming your way....just take your time, get well. Scuba - stop in from time to time...hope all works well and you find the right group for you. FBP - welcome home...I am getting more and more geeked up about IM training starting soon. Keep up the work....Send us a race report about the 5k.....sounds like 3 finish lines to come. Mav - enjoy the start line....next year.....toes on that line! Gary - work your way through it....nerves are a good sign...just don't let them control you. Taping the gels - I tape with electrical tape wrapped around the top tube with a strip of tape over the top of the gel. When you rip the body of the gel off the top tube, it tears the perforated top off the gel. Start taping back from the head of the top tube so you can layer the second gel over the first as you work up toward the head. Hope that helps....By the way, your swim will be fine....BREATHE! I may not get to run my 10k in the morning...it looks like a bunch of rain coming....and I don't think I will run it in the rain....so it may be treadmill day.....oh well......we need the rain. sTRIve |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Finished, choked the swim. Bad weather, winds, white caps, made the swim miserable for everyone but I finished the swim. Bike did pretty good I think, run was okay but I was tired. May be an RR tomorrow, don't know my results as I didnt' stick around but pretty good guess I near the bottom. |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Gary - congrats on the Finish Line man!!!! Updated on page one. White cap swimming is TOUGH......great job....keep up the good work....but take tomorrow off. My 10k this morning was on the treadmill....I bagged the run outside due to weather concerns....very threatening....of course, I was running on the treadmill looking outside as not a drop fell while I was running....go figure....you just never know. sTTRIve |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() A short race report ... as befits a short race. It was a lovely early spring day here in Fredericton. Temp was just above 0c (32f), sky was lovely and blue and just a light headwind on the route out so nice tailwind on the way back. Only about 50 or 60 people by my estimate. The run was a fundraiser for Organ donation/transplant and was called the "Transplant Trot". This was my daughter's first 5k and she and my wife ran together with me a little bit ahead - great for being able to take a couple of pictures. I finished in 30 minutes, Jill and Stef in roughly 36 minutes.Lots of door prizes afterwards and both Jill and Stef won $10 gift cards to our Running Room store (race sponsor). Great technical t shirt in the race kit so no bad for $22 per person! After the race a lot of the participants went to a local pub for a breakfast buffet. The restaurant donated $3 from every meal (bkfst was only $10) to support a big relay race event that is going on in a few weeks. It is in memory of a local Mountie who died while out running. Every year teams do a 300km relay in his memory to raise money for defibrillators. The relay has teams starting in 2 different cities and ends in a third. I hope to do the run some year. Will post some pics once I get them downloaded from Stef's camera. FBP

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() FBP - Nice race!! BTW, thanks for the tip of electrical tape for gels. Worked well. Swam 600m recovery today, lite ride tonight. One question, I have Profile Design aero bar clip ons. I want to move my bar-end shifters to them. Any one see a reason I cannot? Probably will do this in a couple of weeks when I have an afternoon free. I want to move my brake levers down a bit so will just do it all at once. Any recommendation on bar tape? |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I swam last night for the first time in about 3 weeks... boy did I feel it! I only managed to do 800 meters, and I was DONE! My goal was 1000... I'm just glad I did something! I found out that indeed I signed up to swim in the Corporate Challenge swim meet! what was I thinking??? I'll be looking for a swim coach SOON... I need to get FASTER!!! AND, I may need to learn flip-turns... I never did those in my life! At least I have new motivation!!! Today I have Pilates at Physical Therapy again... then tomorrow I'll be back in the pool. I figure 3-4 days/week swimming + 3 days Pilates... I hope that's enough... |
![]() ![]() |
Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey all! Diane - good luck learning those flip turns!! I am sure you will learn them in no time. Once you learn them can you come to Baton Rouge and teach me! All the free Jambalaya and Beer you want! Ended up getting a new swim suit as my other one was a little thread bare (oops). Slacking off a little on the training this week (although I have been to the pool 4 times but my total meters are < 2500). Today just did 5 sets of 100 meters with 45 sec to 1 minute breaks. Pool set at 50 meters makes this tough but I did them! Avg around 2:00-2:10, now if I could just get rid of the 1 minute breaks! So technically I was doing 3:00/100 meters. 4 months ago 25 meters was tough. I just need to be at 500meters by July. Anyone have any experience with moving bar-end shifters to clip-on aero bars? I have Profile Design Aerolites. |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() It's been kinda quiet out here.....Gary, I have never switched bar end shifters so I really can't help there. Diane - you will do fine in the swim meet. Go for it!!! Just relax and enjoy. Gary - Try this....swim your 100....but at the end just push off and swim a couple more strokes.....do this after each 100 until you finish.....then....I want you to add another stroke or two.....then the next time....add another one or two....pretty soon you will be there.....much much much of this is mental...I know it doesn't feel that way but it is. You might try swimming non stop for a specific amount of time instead of distance....forget how "fast" you go....just cover the time you want to swim....maybe 7 minutes or 10 or 12 or whatever you want....any amount....you can do!!! I promise. Mav how was the marathon. sTRIve |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Oh my, oh my,....no one have a heart attack cuz I'm actually posting something :-P Sorry to be away for so long, I've really missed this group!! I've just read a few of the most recent posts and it sounds like you are still going strong - no surprise there. I have taken a break from training to focus on the business which is struggling, family which needs more of my attention...blah blah blah. No real reason that I can't train also, it just takes more than I have to give right now. I'm still biking, but running has tapered off and I haven't swam a lap in months. That's what I miss the most, actually. I hope to get back to it before long. I registered for the LOTOJA Classic Bike Race as a member of a 5-man relay team. Yes, 5 man, because it is a 206 mile, one-day race from LOgan (Utah) TO JAckson (Wyoming). http://www.lotojaclassic.com/ They limit the field so I will have to wait another week or so to know if we made it in. So excited for that! Been out on the bike for a few rides and really love it. Stupid weather still thinks it winter here some days. Went to Arches Nat'l Park this past weekend. Here are some pics if you are interested. http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2012793&id=1030959080&l=265e6... I'll be better at keeping in touch, I promise!!! --Leston Edited by Leston12 2009-04-27 11:21 AM |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Leston - Love Arches! I took my boys there about 15 years ago... Looks like you were there with quite a troop! Glad you had a good time... Tomorrow night I have my first swim lesson with the new coach... The lesson is at 8pm, which is kinda late for me, but it's better than 6am as I'm at work at 7am... she gave me the work-out I did yesterday, and it was doable! I'm not TOO worried! I just hope I can learn and improve. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hi Turtles. I wonder if you even remember me. ![]() We're back from our honeymoon. Three amazing weeks in South America. As fabulous as it was, I'm glad to be home. I got homesick. Weird huh? While we were away, my SIL and a good friend I've known for years set up our home. So everything is done. And I'm back to training. Ran 7 miles today. swimming later. I'm still as slow as ever but enjoying every minute in the back of the pack. DH and I have our first race together in a little over a month. Should be a blast! |
