Champion 26509 Sydney | Subject: RE: Nibbs XX In honour of my 10,000th post I thought it was most important to focus on my past 12 months on BT.
Why? Because despite joining BT in August 2005, (and discovering BT chat soon afterwards thanks to foolproof) that is were about 80% of the posts were posted. Exactly 12 months ago, in July 2007 I set up my very first BT challenge: the Tour De France challenge… it had around 75 competitors on 8 teams.
I originally set up the challenge for two reasons: 1) I have a serious Tour De France obsession (that gets worse every year) 2) I was finally off medication for my stomach condition and in a position for the first time in over a year to try and get fit again (after being sidelined while gearing up into training for my first Half mara)
This was the start of expanding my BT horizons and becoming a much more active member of the BT community. Since that first challenge I have been involved in the set up of 4 other challenges over 12 months (pretty good hit rate 4 in 12)– the most crazy of these has to be the October Halloween run challenge which had over 140 competitors and was complete chaos! (and likely to return this year)
(I probably should also claim responsibility for convincing a few BTers to run their own challenges by quietly suggesting they set up what they would like to participate in – none of them have stopped talking to me yet!)
I mention the challenges as a highlight because each time I have met a new group of interesting, entertaining, motivated, talented, supportive and most of all kind people in all stages of their life/fitness.
Its been a challenging year for me…between an amazing mentor group with athletes far more successful than myself, health problems, talk of cheesecake, injuries (a sprained ankle, calf strain, case of runners knee and plantar fascitis stands out in the last 12 months), taunting about my fishnets (if anyone wants to know they are often to be found in the bath), 1 case of serious sunburn (don’t swim 4.5ks to prove a point in an outdoor pool in the middle of the day), a new mountain bike, an emergency trip home to the family, and a sprinkling of fairy dust… Im still here!
12 months on Im trying the Tour De France Challenge thing again… this time we have over 110 sign ups across 13 teams… and (Im a little proud to say) several return participants from last year.
Where to for the next 12 months? Only time will tell… but I have one goal: to face it with a positive attitude… Cat Edited by kaqphin 2008-07-08 10:33 PM |

Champion 5117 Brandon, MS | Subject: RE: Nibbs XX While I've been away and very busy (work blahs and training ramping back up), I had to stop in for Cat's 10,000th. It was beautiful, and thanks to people like Cat, I can honestly say the challenges (and the people who participate in them) have really made BT a special place. Soooo... Congrats, Super Cat! And thanks for putting so eloquently what many of us feel makes this place great. I blame Beth and Dee. |
