4 more min and i'm off of work

I'm actually looking at the VW Jetta Sportwagon TDI (Diesel) that is coming out this fall...

Cool.  I should probably start looking for a different car soon.  Enjoy your weekend.

Sharkie - 2008-07-18 7:43 PM So maybe they aren't FMPs.. But if they keep your feet, legs and body healthy it's a fair trade off
What about my eyes!!?!? heh.

Grow bigger boobs and you won't see your feet Hey.. and then guys won't even notice if you HAVE feet.. or shoes.. Problem solved

Oh, i have to work to see my feet when i look down, believe me. i just need more v-neck tops to distract people from my fugly footwear.

Sharkie - 2008-07-18 8:00 PM I'm a bit lost on the whole thing.. I'm weighing the pros and cons of hybrid vs. gasoline vs. diesel.. I tend to keep cars for 10-12 years.. so it has to last me a loooong time

I'd love to keep my car that long but unfortunately I get the feeling that our time together is coming to an end.  The problem with keeping a car for a real long time, is that you start putting more money into it, than you could ever get out of it.  Plus there's the whole lack of reliability issue; I really don't want to get stranded somewhere, ya know.

i specifically bought the car i did with the intention of keeping it that long. i kept my previous car for almost six years, and i'd intended to keep it forever until i fell asleep and used it as a battering ram.

Umm, wow. I know you said early that you car died about a year ago but I didn't realize that was what had happen. I think that thing with cars is that you can hope to keep a car for 10-12 years but you don't have a guarantee. At this point I'm looking at my second modest repair in about 3 months. While I've only had my car for 7 years it's 11 years old (by model year) and parts are just starting to wear out as they do at that age. I've yet to replace the alternator or the muffler or the clutch, which are all valid things to go bad at this point in the car's life.

Yeah.... My last car was a 1996 Saturn SL2 with 141,xxx miles on it. 11 years old at the time, and she was still running just fine. i mean, yeah, the car was old, but she was in great condition. i'd just replaced the brakes and done some other major repairs the month before the accident. Ouch.

Now i have a 2007 Honda Fit Sport. Hopefully this car will last me many, many years!

That's too bad.  I have a 98 SL2 with 99,xxx miles on it.  I might be more incline to keep fixing her if she hadn't already been hit twice while parked in from of my house.  Yeah.

Betty (that's my cars name) has done 10 years and 200k miles of faithful service.. she still hasn't hiccuped.. i have NO issues with reliability with her.. she is perfect but i admit.. i'm just ready for something new and to hand her down to the SO..

I can understand that.  When I was in my master's program my car (Wilma) and my friend's car at the time (Charlotte) would write notes to each other while we were in class.  It was really cute.

The second time the guy who hit it (who's a friend of mine) gave me money for the damages.  But still it's got about ~2500 worth of damage.  For the most part it's cosmetic (at least now that the duct tape is in place), but it makes the resale value about nil.  I'd like it to take me through grad school, which may or may not happen.  I've decided that I can get a new (to me) car after I pass my prelims/go ABD since it will mean that a real job is coming soon.

Wow.. Betty is a 98 Accord with 200K.. I did the timing belt and cluch 40k ago.. Everything is still working great.. she could use a good interior detail, some seat covers and a new paint job.. she does look like she's been driven hard the last 10 years..

Yeah, nothing I'm replacing is out of line with the age of the car.  It's just that given the amount of body damage at some point I wonder, is it really worth it? Plus there's the fact that I have no idea what I might really want and I do think that my future job (if I get my ideal position) would have different needs than say my hobbies like triathloning.

I'm here.

Thought about hitting the local watering hole, decided not to.

Helped a friend pick out some bike gear earlier this evening.
