I believe 18-20 miles is more normal-ish.

Glad to see everyone's training and racing is going great!

I am on a recovery week this week, my weekend will be a little off because I am getting my bike painted Friday-Monday, not ideal but this is the only weekend the painter could do it. Next week I will do a sort of mini taper for Muncie 70.3 on the 9th.

Thanks for input guys.
I do feel that I'm pulling some run fitness from all the darn bike miles I've been doing. Hope they don't run out of water, etc at bike aid stations this year. This boy sweats some fearce in heat...sorry if too graphic.
Trisam--Have you picked out your 50in HD TV yet for the Tricave or at least a beer fridge with tap.

tulkas - 2011-06-29 2:06 PM Does anyone else think it would make a lot of sense to hand out plastic bottles of water on the run like they do on the bike?

You could always carry a handheld bottle or wear a Fuel Belt. Re-fill as needed at the aid stations.

That's my plan (handheld).

Hey all,

I've just recovered today from being sick since Sunday. Out of no where, SMACK high fever/dizzy/stomach bug...It feels like an eternity since the last time I ran (last Friday).

...send good vibes for my return to training! See everyone in 55+ days...

Thanks for the input from the guys who mentioned a handheld bottle, I just went out and got one. I've used a fuel belt in the past and will still train long runs with it (can carry 40oz vs 20 oz with the handheld) but I think it will be easier to just refill one bottle on the run. Any tips on how to quickly refill the bottle without stopping for a full minute at every aid station, or is it just as simple as grabbing a couple cups and dumping them in? Have you had luck having the volunteers dump a couple cups of water in your bottles?

For those asking about volume, my coach has had me do two 18 mile runs so far (one easy pace, the other was attempted murder), and I think he said I may get up to 20-22 miles before the season ends, and with the paces he has us running that will probably be about 3 hours. I think you're fine if you keep your long runs under 3 hours, I wouldn't want to do much more than that.

Steve...bummer. Recover well.

tulkas...I'm going to have to say no on that one. I don't hope for rain...UNLESS it is during the run and somebody has taken care of my bike.

Do you have the kind of bike that melts when it gets wet?

I ran with a handheld @ Honu 70.3 (miserably hot and humid) and asked the volunteers to fill up my bottle several times.  They just used the pitchers / large bottles they were using to fill cups and it didn't take much time.  I had a horrible run time, but I think it was more due to what I did - or didn't do (like run fast) - between the aid stations.  Especially over the course of an IM marathon, I don't think what little time you stop at the aid stations will have much effect on your finish time.  If you need to rehydrate, I think you should take whatever time is necessary to get what you need to get you to the next mile.

First 100-mile ride this weekend with some pretty brutal mountain climbs.  Going to take it as slow as possible as I'm just trying to survive this one.  18-mile run set for Sun and may race a 10k on Mon - still undecided.  Hope everyone has a happy and safe 4th.  Be careful out on the roads!

Thanks for the input Mike! You're right, the time spent staying hydrated will be time well spent for me. I'm not as much worried about coming to a complete stop to refill as I am about getting started again afterwardsSmile. All you who have done an IM before can probably relate to that struggle!

I used my hand held at EM this year - the folks at the aid station were very happy to fill it up for me.  As I run up to the aid station I take off the cap so they don't have to do it.  I love my hand held.  I like to drink when I want to drink :-

14mi run the other day while in Rio. Was able to hold 9:08 pace throughout and felt good about it after with legs feeling good. Ran 28 miles in training last week.
Building into Muncie 70.3 next weekend...excited.
Hope everyone is building fitness and gaining momentum!!

I put a bid on an aero helmet on ebay. It's a size small, and I think I need a size medium. I made the assumption that it was a s/m, but AFTER making my bid, I saw that it is just a small. If I win the bid, I really hope it fits.

Normally I communicate purchase w/ my wife, but this was so small I didn'. So, if this doesn't workout...well, sh**. So, I hope I either get outbid, or that a size small fits.

Took more steps toward wellness. My first A.R.T. evaluation is July 5th and I did my first aqua jogging workout...which I wasn't going to do, this morning.

Peace!

Did a 2.4 mile open water swim race today. Didn't break any records lol, but I finished in 1:36:32, so at least I know I will make the swim cut-off in Louisville

Thanks Staci! I have been kinda down about it, since I was second to last out of the water, but everyone at the race was a swimmer(like, that's all they do)and I'm so not a swimmer.

Great job in the swim.  When it comes to swims I don't care if I'm last out of the water - I'm just happy to be out of the water :-)

Got in 88 miles on the bike this morning.  I had absolutely no idea it was supposed to rain today.  Oh well, got it in :-)

I was running on Friday morning and slipped on a downed lawn sign that was in the street (some advertisement for a concrete company) felt a little twinge in my leg, so I'm not running for a few days in an attempt to not allow that to turn into something.  I'm just not myself when I'm not running.
