I think I caught it before it blew up into something major. I swam for 50 min on Monday, and noticed when I got out of the pool that I was really dizzy. Came home, did my regular ear rinse of alchohol & vinegar. Noticed a small amount of pressure in right ear. Figured I still had some water in there & didn't pay much attention to it. Felt the same Tuesday and I started hoping I wasn't getting sick. Went to my sister's last night & she stuck her otoscope in my ear. Left ear looks great. She couldn't see any of the landmarks in my right ear. She did say that the ear canal wasn't red (yet), so maybe I'm dealing with the start of swimmer's ear. I've got antibiotic drops and am hitting the claritin D in the hopes that I can dry it up. It's not too painful, but I'm concerned that I'm going to go downhill in the next 36 hours. I'm also having jaw pain on that side. I wonder if a chiro trip would be beneficial.

Well, we have made it to Friday. Last swim of the week out of the way this morning.

Good luck to everyone racing.

Nancy-if you have your bib # let us know so we can keep up with you on Sunday. Lots of folks from down here are headed to Augusta.

Tahoe Report.

Let me know if it sounds whiny. I was trying to be objective and write it in a way that if a WTC exec reads it they would get a racer's eye view of the course and some things I might to differently.

Like I said in the report.... I might want another shot at this race some day.

Work week is finally over, have next week's lesson plans written (I know they won't get done tomorrow or Sunday), parents arrived in town, and this is finally getting real.

I'm kicking myself for not taking Monday off work. Alas, we are having Spirit Week next week, and Monday is "Super Hero" day. I wonder if I could dress up as 'Half' Ironman for my super hero.

Ear seems o.k. Will keep up with the drops & Claritin D until Sat night.

I'm bib# 1776. Nancy Schwertfeger. My swim wave has an 8:26 start.

Nancy-#1776....I think I can remember that! Try to stay off your feet as much as you can today. I tyoically feel like the Tin Man following a HIM.....all creaky and stiff. Be confident in what you are doing. You have put in some great training so this will be a breeze! Oh yeah, remember to not overcook the bike.

Nancy.

Good luck. Like Randy says, don't over cook the bike.

Glad the ear is better. (Or at least not worse). Ear infections are not my area of expertise.

I will be following along as well.

Anyone else have anything going on this weekend?

I am picking up my new (last years model) cyclocross bike today and will probably get in a 15-20 mile "active recovery" ride. I have got to start exercising again. Sitting around is affecting my mood......

Good luck, Nancy! I'm glad to hear that the ear is feeling better; I've always had problems with my ears, so I can relate. I've heard a lot of good things about Augusta, and the weather looks great!

Nate and I are leaving later today for The Dam Tri, which I'm really looking forward to. Last year's race was really fun; I love the course, and the weather looks just about perfect. I'm really aiming to push my performance-level, so, hopefully, I won't blow up! I'll check in tomorrow once we're done.

Oh, Jason, I'm still reading the Tahoe RR, but so far it's great. I can't imagine seeing ice on my bike when I got out of the water. Also, I know how you felt when you said you were panicky in the water. At Rev3 Knoxville, I had the same feeling. It was cold and the water was cloudy, so for the first 5-10 minutes I bet that I was Z4-Z5. Same as you, calmed down and got to it, but it can be really scary.

Jamie/Nate-good luck today.

We had a cooler morning here...about 68 degrees and I had a great workout. Same bike workout as last weekend but instead of failing miserably in hitting my intervals I was able to hit all the intervals and finish the last 5 minutes really strong. Not sure if it was the fact that the temperature was 15 degrees cooler or maybe a bump in fitness but it sure felt good to see progress. Followed up with an easy 40 minute run which also felt really good. Hoping it continues into tomorrow for my run intervals. So funny how often a bad series of workouts will precede a period of improved fitness. I'm sure the feeling won't last long but I'll take it!

Ran to the LBS and back for my run......the I want/need a road bike itch is becoming worse!

Just picked up the new cyclocross bike, a Specialized Crux with 105 components. It is so pretty. Weighs 18 lbs even.

Nothing like a new toy to make you want to get out and play (exercise :) )

ETA for Randy; this bike will make a pretty serviceable road bike with some slicks on it. The call of the new bike can get pretty irresistible.

Feeling just a wee bit overwhelmed right now. Frieda is racked with 3500 of her closest friends. I'm trying to get my ducks in a row and get packed for the morning. Looks like it's going to be a gorgeous day tomorrow.

Jason-LBS owner was just finishing up a build on a Moots cyclocross bike. Beautiful titanium frame. He built up a Moots Ti road bike a month or so ago with full new model Di2. So sweet @ just under 15lbs. Oh yeah it was around a $10,000 build. GULP! Let me know how you like the 105....might be able to rationalize a bike if I saved some money on the group. Do you have Sram on your Shiv?

Nancy-this is the worst part of racing. You are ready to race but little things to do with all the worries about forgetting something. Double check everything then kick back and watch some football. Aren't you a Buckeye? Big game today.

Awesome a new toy and a new challenge! Speaking of challenging your IM performance was truly inspirational! You didn't just prepare you really gutted through the whole weather factor. Really impressive Jason! You deserve a new toy!!!

Kick it Nancy!!!

Randy I had 105 for years on my first roadie with no issues. I prefer SRAM but if you gotta go shimano 105 gets the job done. I wouldn't go lower though.
My current bike itch is for a tri bike......

Survived my first Hm today!! Came in just under 2:30 which was my goal. Yay me

Icing my knees now lol

Good job! An accomplishment like that should warrant a new toy?

Rival or 105 are as low as I would go.

Oh. before I forget. ROLL TIDE!

Through check two she is still over 17.5 MPH.

Athlete Tracker predicts she will be off the bike at 12:18 EST.

Keep it up!
