Subject: RE: ASPHALT JUNKIES Summer Bronzing Crew - CLOSEDOriginally posted by pistuo Originally posted by DirkPOriginally posted by pistuo I dont know much about bikes... but wondering if the veterans here can give me some advice. A friend offered to let me borrow his Zipp 808's for my race. My race is usually flat and windy. Should I take my friend up on the offer? UHH? I am not exactly sure how to answer this question other than.................. ARE CRAZY FOR ASKING THIS QUESTION????? You had better take him up on it!!!!!! Don't make me come to NC and smack you around in October for not taking him up on the offer!! ha! I told you I didnt know anything about bikes... I saw some like them and they are really deep looking. You dont think I would have problems with cross wind? Last year the race was cross wind for the first 70 miles and tail wind for the last 40... The 808's will only provide with an advantage, IMO. Even if there are moderate winds I don't think you'll experience anything that would cause you to get nervous. When I used the disk back in July I had 6 and 15 MPH winds with slightly stronger gusts and I didn't have any issues whatsoever. I felt very stable throughout the ride. And the push with a tailwind?? That was really nice on the disk! You should have a similar feeling ride. The aerodynamic benefits of the 808's will get you off the bike a little faster having left you with a little more energy for the run. USE THEM!!! I suggest you give them a few spins before the race. You don't need to do it now but a weeks or so out, try to get hold of them and ride in calm and somewhat windy conditions. That should give you the confidence you need right before the race. Another thing, make sure you're riding the right cassette. It may be that your buddy is riding the same as you but make sure to check. No surprises come race morning!! The wrong cassette could be devastating on a climb. |
