I agree, it is very frustrating.  I only recommend second opinions because of an experience my husband had, where one specialist told him the pain was all in his head and there was nothing wrong with him, and the other discovered that he no longer had an ACL!

That's a great thing to do with your Mom Pete!

Erica, this is not good news.  Has your Doctor determined what the cause is?  Is he/she just a general practitioner or are they a specialist of some sort?  Have you gone to get a second opinion from another doctor?

The doctor is an orthopaedic doctor.  No second opinion, besides that my primary care physician said it was probably patellar tendonitis, too, before he referred me to the ortho.  My biggest concern is that he hasn't told me what he thinks the cause is besides over-training.  I'm trying to figure out things with my insurance company now to see a PT, in the hopes that the PT will be able to tell me what it is.  Frustrating!

I think I said I would post a pic, so here you go. It isn't the best because of the dark background and dark shirt, but I have a little bump!

Hey Debbie, the photo didn't show up for some reason.

Pete, Aeros...no.  They are in Houston.  We have the Texas Stars here in Austin that I am a fan of.  We got knocked out in the first round by Milwaukee.  We did knock Hamilton out last year though to get to the finals.  Why can't your Bulldogs beat the Texas teams?? Tongue out

Ahh, damn. I forgot about them Stars. And it's clearly way too hot down there for us real hockey players

Haha, yeah part of our strategy is to play on a melted pond.  Seems to be working!

My weekend isn't over yet!  We are celebrating Victoria Day today, a rather meaningless day to most, but I will celebrate her birthday if it means I get a day off:-)

We had a few friends over to watch the Hockey Game yesterday(Go Canucks!) which started at noon and the last guest left at 9:30PM, we had a great time entertaining for the first time in our new home.

Today it will be a lazy day.

How was your weekend?

Very nice, enjoy the holiday.  We have memorial day next Mon but I'll be working.

Had a good bike ride on Sat.  Did a 50mi charity ride with a friend, jumped in a nice cold river after the ride, then enjoyed some food and beer at the after party.  Went home after that, took a nap, then we had friends over for dinner.  Woke up at 450am that day and went to bed at 230am that night.  Long day.  Not excited about being back at work and am already looking forward to this week being over.

Would anybody like to come to Wisconsin and help me move this weekend!?  I would appreciate it!  Laughing  My knee really isn't liking all this up and down and carrying things around.  It's been sore all week.  The PT gave me some stretches on Friday to do, and I've been doing them, but I don't know if there's been a difference yet.  I go back this Friday, so we'll see!

I just want to race!

If YOU want to come to Montreal next weekend and help ME move, though, company would be appreciated!!! haha. Good luck, and be careful!

Here I am, stuck at work on a holiday.  But I really don't mind.  No traffic to worry about.  No one else at work but me today so it is nice and quiet.

Been a little awol lately.  Been having some issues and some stressful situations I've been dealing with the past couple of weeks.  Things have gotten better but I've been stress eating and drinking and not working out much, so it has not been a good combo.  But wife and I are starting a healthy eating program on Wed.  It will help me a lot since she is doing it too.  In the past she hasn't really participated so I end up trying to eat healthy while she doesn't so I tended to fall off the wagon pretty easily (hard not to with all the tempting food she had around).  So I am really looking forward to that. I am going to weigh myself on Wed morning and I am sure it is not going to be pretty.

Going to get back into a good workout program too.  Going to keep riding 3 days a week and will figure out how and when to fit in the running and swimming.  I am thinking about getting up in the mornings and running 2mi 4 days a week (which means I would have to get up at 520-530am), but I hate early mornings.  But if I do that then it leaves my afternoons free to get in the swimming and biking.  So we shall see.

So, how is everyone else doing?

Glad to see you re-surface, I was about to send out a search party  Tough times happen, and we all deal with them in our own ways.  Glad things are sorting themselves out and that you are getting back on track. Don't be too hard on yourself, it is what it is and you are doing something about it.   Really happy your wife will be on board for the healthy eating, it will make it so much better for you to stay on track.

I've had a couple of bad weekends in  a row myself.  We have started entertaining in our new home with small parties 2 weekends in a row and then yesterday we attended a big BBQ with all our running friends....so many temptations...I had little bits, here and there, but managed to stay mainly on track.  I'm down about 4 lbs over the past 3 weeks, which I think could have been better if it weren't for the weekend entertaining

I've tried getting in early morning workouts in the past, but I just can't do it.  Even on my sunday morning runs, I have to get up several hours earlier, so that I can have a couple of hours of waking up time.  I would love to be able to do it, but just can't.

What can I do to help support and keep you on track Tim?

Seconded. I'm all in to help out. I'm even going to join you starting next week, after I move. We'll keep each other accountable. I have been awful since living in my temporary place, because I just don't want to spend my time grocery shopping, knowing that I'm going to move soon, and getting home at 9 doesn't make me want to cook... But next week, that all changes!

So I did my half marathon this weekend. Went pretty well. I put up a very short RR, but basics are that I finished in 1:52:15, was hoping for 1:45. Had I paced better, I think I would have been able to hit it. I got caught up with running with a friend, and the adrenaline, that I went out WAY too fast. 1:45 is ~5'/km, and I started out at around 4'40" or so, and then we hit a hill at 13k, and it all came back and bit me in the arse. Whoops. Next time! Maybe I WILL get that HM PR in my HIM! Fingers crossed!

Had a busy weekend, but still managed to get a run in on Saturday morning. We painted, cleaned, planted, trimmed among other things this weekend.

I am still working at it. I have a 5k race this Saturday and am thinking that it might be my last for the summer. It is starting to get a lot harder to run at this point. I am slow and that is why I might not be racing. I don't like doing races by myself and especially not by myself pregnant. And not to mention the heat has kicked on here in St. Louis, so the heat and stuff is not a good mix for me. I still want to workout and may have to start considering alternatives besides running. If it were not for my heartrate I would have no problem, but it just creeps up there and my dr. doesn't like it to be over 150, which is getting harder.  I need to keep at it because I have been eating like CRAP! I need to get a hold of that!

So whatever accountability piece anyone needs let me know! I am here to help!

Oh and here is a pic of me after my workout this morning. 19 weeks!

Debbie, you look great!  Are you going to keep walking/swimming for the duration of the pregnancy?

Pete, that time is still great, even though I can't translate from km to miles very well!  I suppose it's true what they say, I really would be faster in kilometers!  Laughing  I would help with your move if it wasn't for the fact that my knee was SO sore after our move this weekend.  UGH.  You're on your own, friend!

Tim, you can do it!  I need to get back on the bandwagon, too, but life always gets in the way, doesn't it?  I will try to check on you more often.  I've been slacking here!

So, I've been doing pt for my knee, and I really enjoy going.  I feel like I'm doing soccer workouts in college again because of all the weight training!  The pt thinks not only is there tendonitis, but also that there is a tendon that is getting caught in the joint and gets pinched when I lock out my knee.  Which would explain a lot of the pain.  Also, I guess my hamstring isn't as strong as my quads (blame soccer), and that causes some imbalance when I run since hamstrings are more helpful in running than quads.  He's hoping I can be out running again in a month!  We'll see how that goes...  Until then, he said I could rollerblade with the dog, which I'm very excited about!  I just want this whole knee thing to be over with!

Looking good there Debbie!  Keep up the activity, whether it be walking or getting into the pool.  A lot of pools in my area have water aerobics classes.

Erica, glad to hear your enjoying the PT.  It sounds like mine with a full blown workout.  I really hope it works out for you.  How was the move?

Pete, good luck with your move and don't hurt yourself!

Thanks everyone for the support lately.  Wife and I begin the weight loss journey today.  We've agreed to allow one cheat day per week.  We measured ourselves and I came in today at 214.4 with a 38in waist.  We're possibly going on a cruise with some friends in Sept so we are using that as our goal date which gives us about 16wks.  I'd like to get back under 200, which I think is totally doable (190 if miracles happen!).  Anyone interested in doing a weekly weigh-in on here and posting our results?

Thanks everyone for the awesome comments! I am going to continue to exercise 4x a week, whether it be walking, elliptical, or step. And I just joined a pool so I am looking into water aerobics classes.

Tim-I would love to do a weekly weigh in, but I would be going the wrong wayWink! Even though it might make me eat a little better! and keep me honest and to help me not gain the 60+ that I gained with my first one.

Pete-good job on the race! and good luck with your move!

I think you have a completely do-able goal, Tim and with your wife on board with the same goals, it will make it a lot easier this time around, I know you can do it.  I'd be on board for weekly weigh ins, since I'm working on losing some weight again.  A cheater day is good, gives you something to look forward to and keep you on track during the other days.

Erica, glad you are enjoying the PT and that you are closer to fixing whatever the problem is with your knee.

Pete have a good move.  I hate the move part, but love setting up a new home, so enjoy!

I currently weigh in on Sundays, but some people prefer weekdays, I don't care one way or the other, so if someone has a preference I'll go with the majority.
