Between problems with my foot - all good now, btw - and now allegies, I can't seem to get any consistent training in. I swam yesterday morning despite my allergies and spent the rest of the day miserable because of it. I am supposed to run this evening, but I am thinking that may not be a good idea either at this point. So my question is this: Should I just scratch the last two weeks and pick back up with my training plan and go from there, or should I try to go back a week and skip the recovery week next week since I haven't really been building a base the last two weeks anyway? FYI, the plan is geared toward a sprint at the end of April. The last two weeks were listed as "base" with a recovery week coming next week. That would have me training the next four weeks in a row before another recovery week, (unless something else falls apart)?
How much time have you really lost (missed workouts)? If it is truly 10 days, I would back the whole thing up. Plans build and if you've missed base time you will be starting at a volume higher than you've trained for, right? I would play the recovery week by ear. If you need it after those two weeks, take it. As you can see, time off for injury/illness is way worse than time off for good behavior. I missed whole three days from the first week of February and 3/4 of the run workouts this past week. I will also miss my long bike ride tomorrow and possibly more heading into next week as I am still sick. First, feel better! If it were me, I would start exactly where you left off after those three days. It seems to me that a small step back might be best especially since you are still sick. |

We were alerted our flight left LA four hours late so of course it is arriving late into Kauai. Should be interesting once we get to LA since we had less than a 60' layover....let the fun begin! Make it a great Sunday peeps. |

Master 1841![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sendai, Japan | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN -CLOSED DUE TO TRAININGI have to agree on John's running zones - they look too low. I guess he has lots of untapped potential waiting to be unleashed. These are my estimated zones from 2010 (still using them) based on a 10k I did that year. I've recently been guessing that these are low for me and I'm a couple age groups up. edit: the bike zones look too low too. Does the EN plan have you doing some testing soon? It will be interesting to see where you really are.

Master 2501![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN -CLOSED DUE TO TRAININGHoly Toledo! There is some FAST water in Panama this morning!! I checked up on my gal, Bree Wee, and she averaged 1:07/100 METERS in her swim (that's like 1:00/100 yards). Zoom!! So I checked up on Lance Armstrong, and he averaged 1:01/100M (that's like :54/100!!). Clearly they have a current or a short course! But what's impressive is that Lance was in 10th after the swim. The cycling is listed in km, so I need to get some conversion going to appreciate their cycling speeds. You km folks can have fun tracking the results today! Make it a great day, everyone! |

Why do they seem low? relative to what? I bet if you looked at Kim's you would say the same thing. I think HR numbers are incredibly individual. I just did a LT run test. My LT HR dropped 7 beats (from 168 to 161) from the August test yet my pace was :16/m faster. I consider that a good thing. The only thing I find interesting in these is there is no span in Z5. Like you, I use 5a, 5b, 5c. I couldn't tell you how they figure into anything however. I never see go out and run 10' Z5b, instead I see VO2 workouts that somehow must take that into consideration. I'm assuming EN has a reason for the way they do things too. Right John or Dino? |

I'm equally curious about what's going on in that room? Is that a velour sofa next to your water heater? Not much of a man cave if you ask me! I really like that you're so into the EN model. Dineen must have had quite an effect on you! I agree with the others, how long until you get the Powertap?

Heart rate zones are highly individual based on age, size, testing conditions & endurance capability. It's nice to see those numbers come down over time. |
