Jeff and Dirk - you're both amazing and really rocked your events. It would be fun to see you in a Junkie war.

BTW, Dirk - how'd your Dr. appointment go on Friday regarding allergies?

So, I wanted to put this out there for those of you looking for that "kick in the pants" to get on the bike more.

There is a "TdF Challenge" in the challenge thread. 21 days of riding. You either pick mileage or hours of riding for your goal. Everyone is broken up into teams. It's a blast! I see Tracy signed up.

Anyway, thought I'd throw it out there for those of you looking to set some bike goals.

The initial diagnosis is sports induced bronchial spasms.  This is very similar to asthma (very, very similar) and my treatment is to take an inhaler 15 minutes before I cycle since that is where the  symptoms show up the most.  I feel cycling is the primary cause due to the intensity that I ride nearly all of my ride.

This would also be why I lost a few lungs at the race last weekend too.  In the few minutes following the race I spent a lot of time coughing quite forcefully and then it continued less intense and with less frequency throughout the rest of the day, but I am still coughing a lot.

Just signed up, saw several junkies in this one.

I might need a little help picking a goal. In case you all have not noticed I kind of just make all this training up as I go along.

I was also wondering what you found out. I hope the inhaler solves the coughing issue for you!

Warren - Woke up this morn with your cousin/daughter on my mind. She's being prayed for today, along with the doctors performing the surgery. Can you tell me her first name? I know God knows it but I like to say it in my prayers.

Dirk - At least you now know what is causing all the coughing and have a solution to help curb it. Sorry you have to deal with it. Maybe you should dial back the intensity.......yea, right.

Karl - Safe travels to and from Atlanta. Enjoy the time with your parents

Stan - Thanks for the tip to enter the TdF Challenge. I'm in and it looks like I'm with good company from this group - you, Tracy, Warren, Dina. I've never done a BT challenge before but I can sure use the motivation to up my time/mileage on my bike with an HIM coming up. Should be fun. You planned your Century ride at a good time to be able to blow us all out of the water from the git-go.

I've had two days of no training. Feels good to give my body a rest after the last 3 weekends of races. I'm so looking forward to the end of the week when my daughter and I are going on a camping trip, just the two of us. I've been trying to find a common interest with my son and he enjoys video games but I can't get the hang of it. Last night was perfect to go out and play a few games of HORSE basketball. He beat me something awful and laughed at my shooting a lot. Making family memories. Love it.

Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone!

Her name is Kaitlyn.  Thanks so much.  2:45 is the planned time unless an emergency preempts the surgeon.  She's doing as well as could be expected given the circumstances.

I joined the Tour challenge too.  Next week is my big bike week for the year, so it will be a good incentive to hit my target miles.

Here are a few pictures from my trail running adventure.

This is Black Butte (elevation 6300 ish feet)

Here I am running to the top of Black Butte.  This was the good part of the trail!

Made it to the top 3 miles and 2000 feet of elevation gain later!

Mt. Shasta and lenticular clouds.  They're pretty cool!

Oh, my Tracy, those pictures are awesome! What a run you had! I can't imagine that kind of elevation and trail surface. Amazing! I LOVE your smile and your long braid. Very cool! Thanks for sharing.

Ok.  I'm impressed!  3 solid miles of climbing would probably have destroyed my achilles.  Great glute workout!

Of course coming down would have hurt my quad tendons.

I'm pretty fragile.  I would rather ride my mountain bike up that.

What a cool adventure.

Tracy, that's some over the top training.  I'm with Jeff - I'd be pile of ligaments and tendons melting on the trail if I tried to run up something like that.

But the view would convince me to hike it.  Wow that's beautiful!

I would love to brutalize myself with a running climb like that Tracy.  But I would also be in a similar pile as Warren described.  The view appears to be well worth all of the pain involved in the getting there part but I may need to camp at the top until I recovered about 3 days later.

The benefit of multiple mentors...But with Jonathan being scarce and you succumbing to life...and me in my mental fog, that leaves Warren!  Although I'm doing much, much better this week.

Tracy, those are some beautiful pics. I haven't been there in over 17 years. I'm going to have to put that on my list of places to visit again.

I just wanted to say how awesome it is to see some of you participating in the TdF Challenge. It's a great way to hold yourself to your biking goals. Plus it's lots of fun.

I'm ready for the bike challenge, it's perfect timing for me.  Next week is my "big bike week".  I did this one week about 2 months out from my last half and it helped my bike fitness tremendously.  The challenge will keep me honest.

Tracy those pictures are great. Shasta doesn't have those clouds at the peak today, just some puffy ones lower down. I can see Mt Shasta from my desk here in the office when I look out the north facing windows.

There is a "sprint" tri with Shasta as it's backdrop in September called the Tinman. It's a fund raiser for the Rotary Club of Dunsmuir. I'm planning on entering that one this year.

Tracy thanks for sharing the photos with the group. I am with the consensus here as the scenery in your backyard there is beautiful. I am impressed as well as don't think I could manage a run up those trails but I'd love to hike it. I would imagine the views would be spectacular.

Did I miss the note about it being national perfume day? Started off at the pool when half way through my set a lady walked in and I could instantly taste her perfume! Each time i got back down to the end of the pool the perfume just overwhelmed me! Then tonight while running it seemed everyone I passed had some sort of strong perfume on! Towards the end of my run I was tired of the smells and felt my dinner rumbling, sooooooo, from there on I just crop dusted everyone! Preemptive strike! . I know juvenile but it was fun!

I'm in on the TdF challenge as well. I am on vacation starting Friday and since we aren't going away anywhere this year I should have plenty of time over the next two weeks to log some decent time and mileage on the bike. Might as well use this as the motivation to do that.
