tri808 - 2010-07-28 6:59 PM Just got in a 4 mile easy run.  Which means I just doubled my running training miles for the month...LOL.

Looking at my run times from my previous races, I really have a lot of room to improve on the run.  I'm sick of being passed on the run.  The only guys I ever pass are the guys that bonk near the end.

I hear that my friend.  I get passed by like ten guys on the bike and fifty on the run.

So I've got this HIM 8/22 this year.  I've got a run question.  I'm up to 9 miles, as of yesterday.  Felt pretty good, not much different than the 7.2 I ran last week.  I honestly thought I planned a route for 8 miles and when I looked at my garmin it was 9, so I must have taken a wrong turn.  Either way, my question is:  What distance should I shoot fore before my HIM on 8/22?  I know I won't get to 13 because that'll be upping my mileage too much.  I have enough time before my 9 day "taper" to do 2 more long runs.  What do you guys suggest?  I could add a mile each time and get to 11...or maybe 1.5 and get to 12.  I want to avoid any long term soreness or discomfort at this stage.  I have no real issues as of right now (mild soreness).

My advice is to play things on the safe side.  With just over 3 weeks between now and your HIM, there is very little you can do now to IMPROVE your fitness.  But there is lots you could possibly do to bring on injury before or during your HIM.

I would say go for one more long run of increased distance...maybe 10 miles, next week, then no more increasing.  Better to get to the starting line undertrained, healthy, and rested than the opposite.

Just my 2 cents...haven't done a HIM...just applying my theories from marathon training.

K, thanks.  I pretty much figured it wouldn't help my fitness much.  Just maybe what it would feel like to run for that period of time.

robingray_260 - 2010-07-28 8:54 PM Womens group mountain bike ride was cancelled for today b/c of rain. So, I was stuck on the trainer - ughh!!! However, I have to say that the trainer is way more comfortable now that I have the aero bars on and I can put my elbows on the pads.  Probably not the best form - but whatever keeps me on for another few minutes is worth it!

Mountain bike ride cancelled for rain!?

Glad the drainer feels better now.  Bad enough you're stuck inside.  Makes it much worse to be uncomfortable!

Well I would hate to get wet - I might melt!!!!

no it was due to lightning. Today was another "inside day" and I worked out on the treadmill for the first time in over month - I dropped about 20 sec/mile - it was a nice feeling.

i;d do both of them in the 10-11 range at this point.

are you getting another mid-long run in (say if normal is 5 or so, and long is 9 or 10, somethign in the 7 range?

a mid-week longish (a few shorter than the long run), will help a lot.

Typical midweek runs have been 3.5-4.5.  I can get one longer in the 5-6 range in mid week if that'll help.

honestly at this point, if thats what your weekly runs look like, i would up the distance of another shorter run a bit vs adding much (more) to that longer run.

I am getting things ready for our mini-vacation/long weekend camping trip and my Oly this Sunday.  I am going to see if I can cut close to 5 minutes from my overall finishing time from my last race in June.  I know I can cut some time if I do nothing more than not screw around in T1 and I may try yo hit the bike a touch harder.  My run is what concerns me a little bit.  I would like to get my pace down to around 7:30 miles from a 7:48 avg.  This will obviously be more difficult to accomplish since my first race I kept trying to speed up but my body said "I don't think so."

I'll have limited access to internet so I'll post something when I get a chance.

Does anyone know if used race wheels tend to sell cheaper after race season.

I've been browsing ebay for a used aero front to go with my rear disc cover...but prices seem a bit high for the past few months.  I suppose it's a sellers market right now (lots of people looking to buy, but not many people willing to sell).  So do you think prices will come down in Oct/Nov when most people will be trying to dump their race wheels after race season...and not too many people are willing to buy because there are no upcoming races?

Yes they absolutely do.  Prices are way lower by september/october.

Yup...that's true.  When I started looking back in February, a couple year old trispoke front was going for about 300-350.

Not too shabby. My gf is looking to do the same. She tore her ACL playing softball and had a really bad PT, and struggles with running now. Well, she's actually not my gf anymore...I think "fiancé" is the more appropriate term
