Subject: RE: T.W.I.S.T.E.R. - March Winds Challenge How long have you been doing tris? This is my 4th year training - Did an XTerra 2 years ago, none last year, and depending on my running will do an Xterra this year. First year. I have been training since about November 2009. What got you into triathlon-ing? Love to bike and run and am improving on the swim so I figured why not! I always wanted to do one, but was never really into cycling or swimming. I was training for my first marathon last year and was in such good shape, I decided to get a bike to help cross train. I had so much fun onthe bike, I decided to start taking masters class...so here I am. What are your goals this year? Be healthy enough to complete and XTerra, finish TransIowa, and get stronger and faster on the bike At this time last year, I was about 35 pounds heavier and in the worst shape of my life. I was not a very fast runner, didn't own a bike, and didn't know how to swim. So my goals this year is to just improve my fitness in each sport while gaining race experience. I'm not so much focused on my race times as I am improving in each sport. Next year is when I'll actually shoot for agressive race goals. What's your favorite tri sport? Biking is by far my favorite. Just the thrill of going fast...especially on the downhills. What's your least favorite tri sport? I would say running right now...just because it's the sport I have been doing the longest, but am still relatively slow. I don't feel bad about being a slow swimmer because I have only been swimming for 5 months. But I actually enjoy all 3 sports...but if I had to pick my least favorite...running. Current challenges/obstacles? Hip/Leg issue preventing me from running further than 1.5 miles currently and a weak swim! Eating - I train so hard that I have to eat a lot...but sometimes I go overboard. Swimming - still trying to improve my technique/endurance Running - I have to be careful not to go too hard because of my knees. No major problems, but I'll get patellar tendonitis if I add to many miles too quickly. What's your favorite part about training for tris? I love the numbers part of it. I think there is some truth to the most common profession of a triathlete being an engineer. I'm not an engineer, but I'm in IT...and I love statistics. Mileage, pace, LT, HR, and being timed in 5 categories (swim, T1, bike, T2, run) gives me plenty of data to play with and analyze my performance. Makes training so much more fun when I get to analyze it. What's your least favorite part? The expense...why are bikes so dang expensive. And wheelsets...seriously...why does a nice wheelset cost you $3-4k. How many races did you do last year? Five - 1 marathon, 1 25k, 1, 30k, 1 half marathon, and one 10 mile turkey trot. How many races are you planning on this year? 1 sprint tri 2 olympic tris 4 OWS (1, 1.2, 1.6, 2.3 miles) 6 runs (marathon, 15k, 20k, 25k, 30k, half marathon) Edited by tri808 2010-03-24 11:37 AM |

Elite 3460 Slackerville, USA | Subject: RE: T.W.I.S.T.E.R. - March Winds Challenge And I'm adding question 10 How many races are you doing this year? I'm starting the season with a half mary, then I have three tri's, three marathons, and the local Ragnar Relay on my schedule. I need to start registering before they start filling up. So far everything is available or registration hasn't started yet. |

I feel like having you bring me a fish and cutting it up and putting it in people’s trash can at work! I tried that and they won't let me do it. New cubicle has view of the parking lot, but at least I have a window and can see the sun. I don’t like stealing money so that is no good either.
Yep – just the fish thing – Oh and the fax destruction part – beautiful. I could do that to my phone maybe. But it never rings. So maybe it doesn’t work – LOL
Alright that is what I do when I go outside at lunch – I get like I need to break out – I saw my bike, I see the sky, I think escape. Do you think anyone would miss me? I am Cost Seg afterall! You're making me home sick. I'm at the office today. I'll have to see if I can find some grass somewhere so I can soak up the sun and eat my lunch. Go back to work – sorry this is pure ramblings! Little trivia. Prior to Office Space, the only colors of staplers available were the basic black, brown, and tan. There were so many requests for a red stapler after the movie came out that they started making staplers in other colors. |

Weather was beautiful today. 40 miles on a mtn bike....that's hardcore x2 - crazy hard! That's pretty amazing. We don't really have any long trails like that around here. There is a 20+ mile ride that I like that usually takes me about 4 hours. We go up one canyon, up the mountain, along the ridge, then down the other side and out another canyon. Mostly single track except the last few miles coming out of the canyon that is paved. We usually hit about 60 on that part. Great ride but only half the distance of what you did yesterday. Its the longest local ride that I know of. We're very fortunate here in the bay area. We have several connecting parks in the East Bay. I can connect a mixture of single track, fireroads, and streets into a loop anywhere from 30 to 120 miles. But there is a price, it all includes ridiculously steep climbs. Good training grounds though! |

Master 1887 Brentwood, CA | Subject: RE: T.W.I.S.T.E.R. - March Winds Challenge 5 mile tempo run this morning. Felt pretty good. Legs were a little heavy while warming up, but the tempo segment was uneventful. Feel like I'm finally getting back on track here. Just have to keep things in check and not ramp back up to soon. Swim this afternoon. |
