"Mahvelous, simply mahvelous!"

Way to go Mav. Great race and great report. I am SO impressed with what you have managed to accomplish in the eighteen or so months that we have been corresponding via this forum. If you were Canadian I'd refer to you as the Queen of our group but I suppose the proper descriptor would be "First Lady".

Hey all!!
LRR - my next isn't until July 12.

I have an OWS clinic this weekend, yeah!!  Did a 750m continuous swim today but actually didn't mean to.  The plan was 8x100m on 2:30 than 8x100m on 2:20.  Well I got off 15 seconds late and every time I hit 100m after that I would hear ready go.  So just kept going.  At 750 I stopped for a 15 second break as my foot was cramping.

Weird thing happened at Dr's today.  So one of my twice year Asthma Dr checkup.  He says "You have a resting heart rate of 52, you must be working out.  What is the lowest you have hit?"  I tell him 48.  Then I tell him I am going Triathlons (explain the swim, bike, run, etc).  Then he says "That's great that you can do that considering you are a moderate asthmatic"

For some reason that last statement rattled me.  I have been asthmatic all of my life, I have never really considered it a barrier as I have never tried to be any type of elite athlete.  But it seemed that this Asthma Dr was telling me it could be.  Just threw me off the rest of the day thinking, should I be taking my asthma more seriously?  My lung capacity is about 75-80% of the avg persons but I have found conditioning evens that up (your lungs/body work more efficiently so you don't need as much air.  Learned that when my SCUBA tanks lasted longer than my buddies).  Either way, just threw me.  Won't change anything but may be a reminder to me to pay attention to it more.

Oh well, I guess I should go workout to prove him wrong!

Woohoo!!! My OWS clinic just got much more interesting.  They have spotted a gator in the lake we are supposed to swim in.  Gator usually stay away from humans but may carry a knife just in case.

Just another reason I live in Nevada!!  I don't think I'd go to the OWS clinic...  Hope we hear from you on Monday

Kinda explains the 2nd part of the email notification as it asks for "someone to bring a BBQ and a set of skinning knives.."  You know those cajuns, they love a good BBQ!

Remember that when swimming in gator infested water one need not be faster than the gator, just faster than the slowest swimmer ...

Hey folks!

Any bike experts that can take a look at these and tell me if they are decent wheels?http://cgi.ebay.com/Velocity-Deep-Vee-Aero-650-wheelset-extras_W0QQitemZ110407452708QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCycling_Parts_Accessories?hash=item19b4cc0824&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50

Considering just getting a wheel cover for my back wheel.  Saw them at wheelbuilder.com and wonder if that is the best option I have until I can put some serious money down.

Gary - I ride the Velocity Deep V wheelset.  It is a good all purpose wheel.  We gotta get a lot faster before we need race wheels.....

Gators....I swam in a lake where a couple of snakes were swimming by the dock we started from....I think that shook a few folks up here last year....There is a tri here in a lake that had a famous gator in it called the Gator Bait Triathlon....Go for it, just leave no appendages dangling.....like arms or feet.....and always keep someone to your right and your left and in front of you and behind you.....kinda your own gator shield....like the president surrounded by secret service

happy big training weekend everyone......except Mav.....still eating bon bons and drinking mimosas?

No Mimosas...just finished a group ride and swim with my Danskin mentor group, followed by beers at a local bar on the lake. FUN!

Hey all! Back from OWS clinic.  No gator sighted.  Overall did okay but found I am lousy at treading water, more work than swimming.

Gary, glad you made it back safely!

Well, I joined the club!  Yep, I unclicked on the right, and fell over on the left... nothing I could do but start laughing!!! OK.. I do things in style... it was toward the end of a LONG HOT bike ride, and I was at mile 18.9...where I stopped to catch my breath... looking at a HUGE hill, and I had about 2 - 3 more miles to go, but I was SOOOOO done! So, I said, if I could make it to 19 miles... so I clipped in... just then, my friend came riding down the hill to see if I was okay... she turned around... I decided I wasn't gonna make it, unclicked, and fell over RIGHT IN FRONT OF MY FRIEND AND ANOTHER RIDER...  AND a Truck pulled up and gave me a ride to the top... I was SOOOOO DONE!!!  got back to my car, it was 98* out...  so I guess I had a couple of firsts today - first time I fell, and first time I quit on a ride... nothing is broken but a bit of my pride... I'll live Laughing

Your pride will heel.  I wish I had only had one tump over experience.  I hope you never have another.  Bike rides in the upper nineties are very very tough.  Be proud that you were even there.

You are all doing great....

Gary - glad you avoided the gator.  A couple of treading water suggestions.  Bicycle kick your legs or scissor kick them.  You can also hold your arms out to your sides, fully extended and, keeping them straight, bring your hands together in front of you.  This is a little easier than just flailing around but I don't like to tread water either.

Hey y'all,

Had a great weekend at our cottage in Prince Edward Island. Worked my a$$ off on Saturday with the usual chores required when arriving for the first visit of the season but Sunday managed to get in a 5k run and then just before heading back here I went for a swim. It was really windy and wavy - I see now how much tougher an OWS in the ocean is compared to a lake!!

Arrived at work today and my boss, a very dedicated cyclist, has a "wing in a sling" after a serious bike crash on the weekend. Separated shoulder, road rash, etc. His $5000+ bike was apparently none the worse for wear.

I have a little something to send out to you, my BT LRR pals. If you would be so kind as to "pm" me or email me ([email protected]) your snail mail address and I will get them in the post.

Lots of stuff going on in July, and I couldn't decide what I wanted to do... The Local Tri club is putting on a mini-tri on July 11... I even put it on my Race Calendar, but wasn't REALLY sure I wanted to do it... My Masters Swim club is having an Open Water Swim clinic in July, and the first day is the 11th... The Local Running club has a 5k just about every weekend...

Then there's the Notch Run on July 18th... This was the FIRST race I ever did - 2 years ago (last year I was injured) It's 4 miles ALL UP-HILL in the Mountains... I was amazed at how much the elevation bothered me as well as the Hills - it took me OVER an HOUR... but I didn't finish last, and in fact, I took a 3rd place AG award (no one else in my AG was stupid enough to try a race like that)!

So, I finally decided... I'm doing the OWS clinic on July 11 & 25, Aug 1st?... skipping July, 18th for the Notch Run (hoping I PR the course)... which means I won't be doing the mini-tri on the 11th... I'm just not ready to tri, and I think I'll get a lot out of the clinic... I'm a happy camper today

Does everyone know what tomorrow is?

It's Canada Day!! Our national birthday was July 1st, 1867. So, tomorrow while y'all are at work I'll be enjoying parades and fireworks, etc. I know, I know, the 4th of July is upcoming and you'll be doing the gloating

Why not wear some red and white (or a maple leaf!) tomorrow in honour of your northern neighbor, friend and ally. I'll be sporting red, white and blue on Saturday plus as mav knows, I LOVE watching the Boston Pops concert on TV on Independence Day.
