Sure is quiet today. Not a lot going on here or at work. Hopefully the rest of our team is out exercising so we can pull even farther ahead of the bEASTies.

pdbman - 2010-03-24 11:20 AM Just read Pirate Girl's XTERRA Saipan race report on her blog. Sounds amazing. I had no idea the XTERRA series was such a big deal. I knew we had one locally but had no idea what it was really about. I'll have to keep it in mind for the future.

Actually, your local one in Park City, is the Nationals Championship.

Yeah, one in Park City and one in Ogden. I heard that the one is Park City was the NC and thought that if they're having it here, it can't be that big of a deal. I thought it was just a handful of races, like 4 or 5, scattered in the west. Well today I checked the web site and its a little more than that. 65 races in 35 states and others around the world. oops. My mistake.

Got another trainer ride done.  I wish I could have gone for a ride outside.  It is FRIGGIN' GORGEOUS outside!!!!  No one to look after the baby while I ride.  Oh well.  I had a great workout.  I did one of JorgeM's workouts.  They are killers.

Here goes Q&A time:

How long have you been doing tris?  This is (should be) my 2nd year

What got you into triathlon-ing? Getting back into shape after having Sammi and since i had been wanting to do a tri I used it as a goal!

What are your goals this year? Make it through my first marathon (training and all) without injury, rehab my shoulder (which includes swim stroke correction so this doesn't keep happening), and get my swim/bike base back up to par so I can finally do the HIM I was supposed to do THIS year!

What's your favorite tri sport? Running ~ truly my happy place!

What's your least favorite tri sport? Swimming ~ actually I love swimming but I say it's my least fave only cuz I totally suck at it!

Current challenges/obstacles? Shoulder and upcoming move (why am I stressing already?)

What's your favorite part about training for tris? Finding the will power to get up and go when I really don't want to or pushing past a point that I didn't think I was capable of and then seeing it all come together in a race!!

What's your least favorite part? Getting up and going when I really don't want to and since I mostly work out in the morns I don't always get to see my babydoll first thing...she is absolutely adorable in the morns, all snug in her bed, flashing that big smile when I walk in her room!
and yeah, I have to 2nd Bill's "Not having a real tri bike!"

How many races did you do last year? 7 ~ 2 tris/1 bi/1 du/3 runs

How many races are you planning on this year? I'm ashamed to admit...only 3...but the year is still young...

Paul - you have to do one!  They are a blast.

BTW - None of bEASTies even replied to your post - great job shutting them up!!

I just hope I didn't make them mad enough that they are all out there training. I want to keep our lead.

I may be doing some late night training again.  They made some program changes to the existing program that didn't include the changes that I just made so I had to go back and redo my changes.  Now I get to test it again.

wgraves7582 - 2010-03-24 5:18 AM I wish I were a better mechanic but it is fun trying new things and having the LBS to help you out if required!

I'm self taught.  Luckily, never had any financially costly mistakes, just a few time costly ones.  I've built my last few bikes by myself.  It is nice to maintain your own equipment: pride, cost, no waiting for serive, and being self-reliant.  If I'm way out on a trail, at least I have the reassurance that I'll be able to rig something to get me home.

I can recommend two books for anyone interested in trying things on their own:

Park Tool Book
Zinns: Art of Bike Maintenance

Are either of these another name for "bike mechanics for dummies?!" I think I'm afraid to mess with it because I am soooo NOT mechanically inclined...Need I repeat my story about how stoked I was that I could change my own flat tire?!

I used to ride snowmobiles every night for work.  I'd ride a minimum of 20 miles and sometimes up to 100.  I had no problem tinkering on the machines when they weren't working correctly out in the field, in the dark and cold.  Why am I terrified to do more to my bikes than change a tire and switch out pedals?  Please!  This is stupid!

What job was that?? - that sounds awesome!!!!

Wildlife work for many years.  Here's a picture.

Hmmmm...owl girl...kinda makes sense now!

wgraves7582 - 2010-03-24 10:28 AM I have a funny owl story:  I am full of them today!

At our old house we had a side yard that had no grass at all so I tilled it up, prepped it for sod and got a load of sod delivered.  All of sudden the neighbors are coming out and looking over at our house.  I was like what are they doing?  Why are they checking my butt out?  (They were kind of strange! and yes I have a nice butt )  I go ask my wife what is going on - the neighbors are checking me out.  All of sudden there is a huge owl on a stump about 10' away from me.

And I thought it was my butt!

Hey where is Melissa???????

I've been thinking the same thing...I'm going to check on her when I'm done playing catch up!

Thanks Bill...I just really had my heart set on doing my first HIM this year here in HI so add to that the whole shoulder thing and you could say that I sometimes feel a bit sorry for myself!  It's nice to hear from someone else that it's ok to take a step back once in a while though!!

Nah 3% is a lot and one of our guys is going to be lowering swim because of injury and that will push him to 100% so we should be good to go - I am planning on 105% on all 4 areas Lord Willing and If the Creek Don't Rise - man I am losing it

3% is a lot...but don't count your chickens too fast...

ooohh...that reminds me...I need to add todays run to the spreadsheet...
