Hey all!!

Just stopping by.  Training is going okay, have my next Tri next Sunday the 12th.  Feel pretty good about the swim, OWS, no wetsuit.  Trying to stick to 2 runs a week but this heat is making it tough.  Bought these wheels, what do you think?

Happy 4th everyone!!!

Had a nice 31+ mile ride this morning.  Had a bit of a scare, cruising along and accerlate to pass a group of casual riders just prior to a hairpin turn, just as I am coming out of the turn there is this large lady on some sort of a hybrid bike in my lane.  She is not wearing a helmet and is taking most of my lane (I think she was giving her partner some room).  I jump off the aeros and onto the hoods and start braking.  She darts over to her lane just in time.  She was lucky it was me and not a car.  If it had been a car she would have been a hood ornament by now.

LRR - You ride them as your trainer wheels or just for races?

Happy 4th to all...

Gary - I ride them full time.  They are bulletproof.  Good evasive action not to take out a hybrid.

Nice long ride this morning.  94 degrees at the finish.  It was hot.  I am still replacing fluids.

Have a safe holiday

Hope you all had a nice 4th of July. Weather here was horrid but I still BBQ'd in your honor (or honour!) and I managed a 20k bike ride early morning before the heavens opened up.

Today was the annual Fredericton triathlon and since I wasn't racing I went out and volunteered. Had a great time giving out the "schwag" bags in registration and then being a marshall at the mount/dismount line. Great to see the really fast racers - I never get to see them when competing . Also great to see the back-of-the-packers who give every bit as much effort only for twice as long!!

Couple of things I noticed - some people (even some of the top racers) are totally disorganized coming out of T1. Also, unless you're heading to the Olympics I don't believe that pre-mounted shoes are of any advantage because people really struggle to get them on. Third, no matter how much you tell people about the mount/dismount rule, they seem to be oblivious. Fourth, practise getting UNCLIPPED. I caouldn't keep count of the people who fell or almost fell trying to dismount. All great lessons.

Today is also a big day 'cause its our anniversary - 24 years. Mrs FBP received a bouquet of flowers delivered to her office on Friday but we will celebrate with a special dinner at our fave restaurant in PEI when we are there in August on holiday.

I'm out of town for work on Monday/Tuesday and then I am off to Toronto in advance of the race on Saturday (July 11th). Likely won't be on the discussion board much between now and then. Wish me luck !!

After Monday's disaster of a swim decided to do a continuous swim to boost the confidence.  Hit 400meters and decided that I had proved my point that I could do the swim on Sunday.  Just writing Mondays swim off to overtraining over the weekend.  Funny I have lectured quite a few people about "everyone has a bad run, could be overtrain, or just a bad run.  Don't worry about it and your next run will be great".  Well taking my own medicine on this one.

I am finding I am a consistent 2:26/100m swimmer.  Every distance swim comes in around that pace (300m to 600m).  Once I get longer distances down I will concentrate on the sprint work the masters class does.  But for now I guess I am predicting a 12:46 for the 525meter swim on Sunday.

Go Pete! Go!

Don't want to start a false alarm but in Mav's Inspires someone was talking about a crash that Mav may have been in.  Anyone hear from her?

Mav - Hope you heal quickly!!!

Fighting with issue with my Truck.  Stupid mechanic shop, arrgh.  Should have resolved today.  Psyched about Sunday.  I really want to nail the swim.  Okay a question for the guys but you ladies are welcome to chime in.

For Sundays Tri it will be a hot day.  Do you swim with a Tri top, wear a tri suit, put the Tri top on in T1 or go shirtless.  Sunday will hit the 90's and will probably be around 80 when we start.   I don't have a Tri suit and no time to get one.  I can swim with the tri top and have done that in the pool for shorter distances (200-300meters) and not sure if it adds any drag.  What do you guys do?

I know this was a question for the guys... but I always swim in a tri top as opposed to going topless   it's probably better to have it on already than trying to put it on a wet body at T1... if you're prone to sunburn, it's probably better to have a top on... If the top is form-fitting, it won't create too much drag... but if your swim is lousy, you can blame it on the top.... you'll do GREAT Gary!

Thanks Diane, if you do end up doing a Tri without a tri top please let me know.  I will try to come volunteer!  Oops, sorry, I guess this isn't PAD (or correctly TAD)?

Hi all...I had a pretty bad bike crash yesterday. I hit something similar to a speed bump that was on a very steep incline. I was going slow but it threw me over the bars and I landed on my chin/ chest. I broke my jaw, have stitches in my chin and have pretty lousy concussion. The road rash is limited to my face and hands. Thank God for helmets....it WOULD have been alot worse.

I have a pretty bad heache, and jaw pain. I am stuggling with nausea nad staying hydrated. The MD says that they need to wire my jaw for a couple of weeks But the nausea needs top improve first. I feel pretty lousy.

THE BIKE IS FINE!!!!!!

The bad news...no racing...the good news...I'll probably loose 10 pounds

I'll keep ya posted

Mav - congrats on the 10 pounds and the fact the bike it OKAY.....but take care of yourself.  Keep us posted.  Prayers going up for you....good karma coming your way.

Gary - wear the tri top.  The time in T1 will be a lot less.  Putting a shirt on a wet hairy torso is NOT fast.

Cardholic....that was funny but I am with Gary...let us know if you are going to tri one topless.......smile

MAv-

Been worried about you since your call last night. Glad to see that you are well enough to get online atleast.  I hope that you are feeling better really soon.  Ouch!

I know that you said that you were hoping to lose 5 lbs in the training. . .I just didn't know the lengths that you would go to achieve that. . . at least it's good to here that your bike is OK.

Still can't believe that you had such a bad crash. Really Scary.  I guess that I am just happy that your noggin is intact

Feel Better Soon,
Jamie

Hey Jamie!!! For all...Jamie is a member of my Danskin mentor group...and she's really fast!!!!!!

Welcome to BT Jamie.

I am doing OK...its going to be a long road back...a couple of months. The head injury is a little more than initially thought, but it will just take time. SO I have to go slow.

They are actually saying more like 10 pounds....already down 3! Something good has to come from this!

Mav - so sorry to hear about the crash.  I was hoping the posts were incorrect.  Ouch about the wired jaw but glad to hear the bike is okay.  Hope you heal quick!

Jamie - Welcome!!!

Got the bike washed and lubed and will pack the bag soon.  Need to practice transitions today also.

Forgot to mention my new wheels came.  Put the front on the bike.  The new wheel feels a little lighter the the old one.  Will hold off on the back until after the race.  Did a test ride and checked out fine.  Resting the legs so did not push it.

Take care all!

Jamie - you are welcome to the hang out with our group if you would like.  I know MAV would love to have another female here.

Gary - rock it tomorrow....go man go

Mav - sounds like 10 pounds is a given.  But a tough way to get there.  I continue to send prayers up and karma your way.  Take care of the nugget (head) - don't do anything stupid....that's nothing to screw around with, you know?  Don't know if you heard or not, but Erin Andrews on ESPN got hit by a line drive in the chin this week but after a visit to the hospital she checked out fine....back on the all star home run derby tonight....hopefully you will heal quickly too....

Back from the Tri.  Did okay.  Swim, swam the whole thing!  But had some navigational issues and some guy said I probably swam about 700 meters instead of the required 525m.  LOL!  Bike I beat my avg on the same course (actually this was longer) by an avg of 1.2 mph.  Ran out of gas on the run due to the heat and not leaving anything left after the swim/bike.  RR later.

Peter - received your present.  Very nice, thanks!!

Gary - congrats...I will update the finish lines.  Can't wait for the RR.  One of the toughest things to do is pace yourself on the swim and bike to leave just enough in the run tank.  I know exactly what you are saying.  Great job!!!  By the way, I will be rolling through BR on Thursday on the way to Perdido Key.....yippee....vacation is almost here.
