Butterflies?  Nah, that beautiful cannon going off means that once I finish a measly 140.6 miles, I can go to sleep and actually sleep in the next day.  And the next day.  And the next day...

Until I sign up for another IM

swishyskirt - 2010-03-24 10:00 PM I'm probably crazy, but that mass start gives me chills (in a good way). I'm not a strong swimmer by anyone's standards--and I'm totally looking forward to experiencing the insanity!

Same here. Im a BOP swimmer...but i think the swim start is the thing i am second most excited about. Second to the Keene decent

It's good to be excited... there aren't a lot of people who have done the race before who are excited about the swim for whatever it's worth... except JenN

Yes!!!  Be excited!!  My favorite part of this entire race is the swim!  You have never experienced anything like it.  It is exactly like what it looks like in the pics & vids and it is so badazz!  It's just like this epic thing you will never experience at any other race.  And you can get out of the water saying, HOLY CRAP THAT WAS AWESOME!  It's just the greatest start to the day if you have the right attitude about it.

I agree, and I'm a mediocre swimmer unlike Jenn! I loved the swim at IMWI and actually got out of the water smiling. I know LP is a lot more crowded but I'm still looking forward to it. I'll likely choose a less agressive start position than I did in Wisconsin so I can enjoy it.

Call me crazy, but I'm really not freaking out about my first IM.  I FREAKED for my first HIM, finished okay, crossed the finish line with a smile and said "If I can train as consistently for my first IM as I did my first HIM I'll have no trouble"...

I'm with you CityGirl. I'm not freaking out at all. I got into tris because it's fun to swim/bike/run. My #1 goal at LP is to have as much if not more fun than anyone else out on the course. I'm going to smile more, laugh more, sing more songs in my head, and enjoy every second of being in one of my favorite parks in the U.S. And if I do make it to the starting line healthy, remembering that I'm lucky to be there without getting hit by a car or suffering some kind of injury along the way.

It's fun to try to go fast and finish well and I love doing the training (more than actually racing), so I'll be ready to go in July, but I'm not putting any other pressure on myself other than to have the most fun I possibly can.

Instead of SBR (Swim/Bike/Run) we can just GTL (Gym, Tanning, Laundry)!

I think this has been one of my favorite days of reading the thread.

BTW, did I ever mention about how my husband read a bunch of IMLP race reports and people were raving about the broth and he asked me what was so special about it....it thought it was some sort of "special" athlete broth!

Well I am freaking out that my sleeping habits have gone to hell.  I can't stay constant in my training plans.

True I enjoy tri’s to the max.  I love training, staying fit and the life style.  What I truly love is when some ask “What are your doing today” and I say I am riding my bike 100 miles or swimming 2 miles etc… Then seeing the expression on their face, priceless!

As far as races, it’s all business.  No singing or sugar plum fairies dancing in my head.   It's NO pain, no pain and a hint of a dream of someday what once did I shall do again.

I just got the okay to take the Friday before LP off from work! AND, I get a half day on Monday, woohoo!  I forewarned my supervisor that I might have to crab walk up/down any stairs for a few days, though.  Believe me, if I didn't have a year long probation at my job I would take off a LOT more time than that!

p.s. Anyone else doing the training trip in LP June 10-13??

PennState - 2010-03-25 6:59 PM I agree its been a 'good thread day' lol Actually the LP thread has been by far the best BT forum thread. Well at least that's my opinion.

Fred it must be your friendly personality.  Yep it's drawed a lot of new people.  That’s good!

Also,  what nutrition do you carry with you on long training rides?  What counts as a 'long' ride for you?

I'm doing four hours this weekend and I'm on the fence about what to bring.  Bike Shop Guy said pack a baked potato for sure and a bagel with pb&j.  I honestly don't know what I'll want on race day, but I know caffeinated gels are in my future.
