gr33n - 2013-04-09 9:21 AM Lots of potential plays of the game but how about the foul called on Burke towards the end of the game while defending Siva. Looked like he got all ball with the hand. Body to body though- foul or not ? Could have gone either way imo... I think I'm going to watch the whole game again tonight.

It was a great game. I didn't care who won, but I was getting mad at the horrible reffing going on on both sides. The Siva block was a textbook block. All kinds of stuff the ref's weren't calling and then they called BS fouls like that.

What a game though.

Basketball is getting harder and harder to watch for me. It almost seems like the game has gotten too fast for the officials at this level and they are just guessing half the time.

Definitely saw a pattern in Louisville's last few games in the tourney. They would be in tight game or behind most of the game, usually dealing with foul trouble, then be able to turn it on late when the officials swallow their whistles, not wanting to "influence" the outcome of the game. I am in no way accusing the officials of bias, but it was fairly obvious that this trend, which really is pretty common, hugely helps the rough and tumble pressure style of the Cardinals.

Agree with this whole- heartedly.  The rugby game that was on last night, while entertaining, was not "good basketball" in a strict sense.

Great observation.  I would say this is also a sign of a brilliantly coached team.  Coach K has nothing on Pitino.

I'm not gonna bag on Pitino, but having the quickest backcourt tandem in all of college basketball sure didn't hurt Louisville's performance.

Smith and Siva are ridiculously quick.

There were a NUMBER of calls that looked like the refs were going to "let them play it out", which was inconsistent, I agree.

This game while incredibly exciting because of the athleticism, big shots, story lines etc., was hugely overshadowed by the horrid officiating...Even if they were bad consistently (calling everything tight OR letting the physicality take over) that would be one thing but they dabbled in phantom calls then allowed muggings...

I wish the NCAA would go back and watch the tape and report on how many calls were wrong...I can think of three or four very big momentum plays killed for Michigan because of the officiating..

The game was won by Louisville and I'm not saying it was stolen but if the reffing was solid, I'm not so sure the game ends the same....Burke and McGary were called for numerous BS calls...

And for background, I was a licensed basketball official in my younger days and the #1 focal point for an official is to not be noticed...Meaning a well called game nobody notices the officials because the calls are correct.  These fools never seemed to have a grasp on when to let them play and when to blow the whistle...

BP going up again....

That said, the "block" call against Carter-Williams with about a minute to go might be what pushed Michigan past Syracuse in the previous round. Terribly blown call that killed the comeback Syracuse was in the process of making.

Could very well have been...Although I was referring to the bad calls in the title game, the conversation COULD be about how poorly college baskeball is officiated overall...

Many critics refer to the clutching, grabbing and mugging that goes unpunished in the college game that gets called in the NBA...
