You can put me out- on the street,
Put me me out- with no shoes on my feet,
Put me out, put me out, put me out of misery,

I`ll never be your beast of burden,
I walked for miles,
my feet are hurting,
all I want is you to make love to me.

I'm glad this thread got revived. I really love those last posts.

Opus - Niel Young has some great lyrics. Having been a political campaign junkie at one time, one of my favorites is:

We got a thousand points of light
For the homeless man
We got a kinder, gentler,
Machine gun hand

Tri-Pirate

That's my favorite Bob Seeger song. Great lyrics and great music.

"Workin' on mysteries without any clues"

"Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then"

"K-K-K-K-Katmandu!!!"

Vonholt - Surprised there hasn't been more Stones on here.

"She goes running for the shelter of her mother's little helper"

"I know... it's only rock-n-roll but I like it"

girl called Lola and I took her back to my place
Feelin' guilty, feelin' scared, hidden cameras everywhere
Stop! Hold on. Stay in control

Girl, I want you here with me
But I'm really not as cool as I'd like to be
'Cause there's a red, under my bed
And there's a little yellow man in my head
And there's a true blue inside of me
That keeps stoppin' me, touchin' ya, watchin' ya, lovin' ya

Paranoia, the destroyer.
Paranoia, the destroyer.

Well I fell asleep, then I woke feelin' kinda' queer
Lola looked at me and said, "ooh you look so weird."
She said, "man, there's really something wrong with you.
One day you're gonna' self-destruct.
You're up, you're down, I can't work you out
You get a good thing goin' then you blow yourself out."

Silly boy ya' self-destroyer. Silly boy ya' self-destroyer

Silly boy you got so much to live for
So much to aim for, so much to try for
You blowing it all with paranoia
You're so insecure you self-destroyer

WARNING- shameless self promotion

She lingers long- like my first cigarette
I`ve washed mouth a thousand times,
it`s my lips that won`t forget-
How smiling sweetly she reached
and pulled a leaf out from my hair,
stoned me with a Midas touch and led me to her lair.

Let`s call it quits for good now baby,
This time it`s quits for good.

-She lingers long

Fly, Fly, Fligitty Fly-Fly
You got to Fly, Fly, Fligitty Fly-fly
Cause you`ve only got nine days to live,
yes you`ve only got- nine days.

Cause you might get swatted
be departed
from this world after four short days,
or you might start hurting
when you turn thirteen
and die of old age.
You might get caught
in the paw
of my neigbor`s cat,
or when you sit to be rested
be ingested
by a venus flytrap

-Fly

My only job was to go to school
to play some soccer and a little baseball too
knuckleheads in the front yard- shooting hoops

In the good old days,
Take me back
To the good old days,
You know I miss `em
The good old days
Reminiscin`
On the good old days.

-The Good Old Days

Any other originals out there? (dug yours scubapunk)

Sorry about that- Nobody understands the words here!
Now back to the real songwriters!

I am a man, a man
I’ll give ya somethin’ that ya won’t forget
I said ya shouldn’t have worn that dress
I said ya shouldn’t have worn that dress

I know you want what’s on my mind
I know you like what’s on my mind
I know it eats you up inside
I know, you know, you know, you know

Here I come, I come, I come

Actually, I love Amy Ray's rendition of it on the Indigo Girls "Rites of Passage" CD.

Speaking of the Indigo Girls, one of my favorites is:

Hope Alone
Emily Saliers & Annie Roboff

Let’s not drag this out, everything’s in motion
Though I’ve only ever loved you kind and with devotion

I remember when I met you and even from the start
I thought one day you’d probably just come home and break my heart

It’s funny what you know and still go on pretending
With no good evidence you’ll ever see that happy ending

You were looking for your distance and sensing my resistance you had to do your will
I had to learn the hard way
We were just an empty dream too big for hope alone to fill

I know I’m a dreamer, so I’ll give you that
Still I hope I’m more than just a place you laid your hat

You’re a land of secrets, its only citizen
And though I paid my dues I was never allowed in

And so I am a stranger but especially today
As I get sad and lonely and you get your way

You were looking for your distance and sensing my resistance you had to do your will
I had to learn the hard way
We were just an empty dream too big for hope alone to fill

Holding out for change I know we never stood a chance
So I could only wait and watch you slip right through my hands

Sing in to an ocean, I can hear the ocean's roar
Play for free, play for me and play a whole lot more, more!
Singing about good things and the sun that lights the day
I used to sing on the Mountains, has the ocean lost it's way.

Am I the only stright man in the world that loves the IGs?...

No Jim,
You're just the only one that will admit to it.

Well there's at least two of us. I have people who have never even listened to IG ask me why I listen to "gay music"! I grew up listening to Simon & Garfunkel (yes, I know I'm old) and IG remind me a lot of S&G with their cerebral lyrics and political consciousness. And as far as I am concerned, love songs are love songs.
By the way, I also listen to Melissa Etheridge, KD Lang and like to watch Ellen.

No more turning away
From the weak and the weary
No more turning away
From the coldness inside
Just a world that we all must share
It's not enough just to stand and stare
Is it only a dream that there'll be
No more turning away?

For the record, I've had lesbians make fun of me for the amount of music in my collection that falls into the "lesbians with acoustic guitars" sub-genre. If you like IG, check out an Aussie group called 'fruit'. Absolutely amazing live performers.

Hey Ho! Let's Go!

DDT did a job on me
Now I am a real sickie
Guess I'll have to break the news
That I got no mind to lose
All the girls are in love with me
I'm a teenage lobotomy.

Just put me in a wheelchair and put me on a plane
Hurry hurry hurry before I go insane
I can't control my fingers I can't control my brain
Oh no no no no no

I'm sitting here, listening to some Art Tatum, Professor Longhair, Satchmo, et al... the song playing right now is striking me as "just right" to my mood:

Don't know why there's no sun up in the sky, stormy weather
Since my gal and I ain't together, keeps raining all the time
Life is bare, gloom and misery everywhere, stormy weather
Just can't get my poor old self together
I'm weary all the time, the time
So weary all the time

When she went away the blues walked in and they met me
If she stays away, that old rocking chair's gonna get me
All I do is pray the Lord above will let me
Walk in the sun once more

Can't go on, everything I have is gone, stormy weather
Since my gal and I ain't together
Keeps raining all the time
Keeps raining all the time

Can't go on, everything I have is gone, stormy weather
Since my gal and I ain't together
Keeps raining all the time, the time
Keeps raining all the time

Hey Mr. Curiosity
Is it true what they've been saying about you
Are you killing me
You took care of the cat already
And for those who think it's heavy
Is it the truth
Or is it only gossip
Call it mystery or anything
Oh just as long as you call me
I sent the message on did you get it when I left it
Said well this catastrophic event
It wasn't meant to mean no harm
But to think there's nothing wrong is a problem, oh

I'm looking for love this time
Sounding hopeful but it's making me cry

...And I've forgotten what you've said
Will you stop working for the dead and return
Mr. curious well I need some inspiration
It's my birthday and I cannot find no cause for celebration
The scenario is grave but I'll be braver when you save me
From this situation laden with hearsay, oh

Gotta love Jason Mraz's music. I do.
