Because we have the first successful American Colony......Jamestown. This is due to the fact that we have the US Government is housed in our front yard and the world's largest Naval base (Norfolk) is in our back yard.

And because Massachusetts stared the revolutionary war we shouldnt have to pay any taxes Money mouth

The District of Columbia was not included in the figures I provided. California, Texas and Florida also have large military bases and they dont get the return that Virgina does, not even close - they all get less than a dollar back. And again, that being said, as a Virginian, NONE of your federal tax dollars goes to fund other states programs since you receive more from the fed - which is the answer to the question you originally posted as to why YOU have to pay for another states services.

In terms of money that came back to states in military procurement contracts, salaries and wages, and grants....

"Department of Defense (DoD) procurement contracts. California ($31.2 billion), Virginia ($26.8 billion) and Texas ($20.6 billion) received the largest amount in procurement contracts. Per capita spending on DoD procurement contracts nationally was $828. The top three states per capita were the District of Columbia ($6,137), Virginia ($3,545), and Alaska ($2,894). States with the lowest per capita spending were Idaho ($109), Oregon ($162), and Delaware ($212). Data only indicate the location of the initial contract and do not follow dollars to sub-contracts."

Dont mean to hijack the thread, but before you ask why you're paying for another states services, just make sure you are.

DC may not be included but Northern VA is. Home of the CIA, and numerous other government agencies. Not to mention the homes of many menbers of congress. N

and Pentagon.. but I personally think the reason lies more on number 2 in that sentence, since MD ranks right behind VA  in receiving money

Just a new comment on Joe the Plumber.

I know that "some" on this thread want to beat him up because he doesn't make $250K.

I listened to his comments again - he never said that he did make that amount but was expecting to in the near future and he wanted to put those profits back into his business to buy equipment and hire more people.

He DID NOT say that he makes $250,000 right now.

I don't think using a rebuttal from the people knowing more about their proposal than anyone else is flawed logic when the rebuttal is to someone giving false information. Regardless, one need to look no further than the numbers on the TV to see the logic is solid. Fact check that.

When I don't have a dog in the fight .. I have 22 years of education including the last 10 with a focus on math so no need to fact check. I don't need some stupid washington lobby group to spin their issue.. I have lived around DC long enough to know how those groups work, and if you wholesale believe them .. good luck.. Facts are facts and no fancy math is needed to know that if something costs $100 to manufacture and I am paying $130 that is $30 in taxes which is 30% tax on the product.

I am not from DC nor very smart, so you are correct it is 30%. Pick on something else like the other 10 bullet points. Or just say it is a sham and live life as you normally do wondering when you are going to be the guy getting screwed.

I come from a third world country so I know how good I have it here, and know I will never be screwed when compared to where I came from.. and I live around DC.. we don't get screwed we have 500 plus congressmen and senators looking out for us

I'm not a US citizen and don't live in the US so take my comments how you will, but we are in a similar situation here in Aus...

... if the government spent it properly I probably wouldn't mind paying a little more in tax. But frankly they suck at spending, so I'll fight dearly to limit how much I contribute.

It is no different than shopping around for the best deal when buying any product or service. No one just hands over their cash without first checking out how much they are paying and what they are receiving.

BTW how much was spent in the last 'war effort'. I'd wager enough to subsidise all the 'socialist' programs without the need to raise taxes.... something to think about perhaps...

I think Joe the Plumber needs to be left alone by all three parties.  Democrats, Republicans and the Media.
