Happy Birthday, Samantha!

I hope you all have a merry and wonderful time, wherever you may be or whoever you may be with.

Then come back and get ready to train!

I am at work, too, counting the minutes until 1:00 when they send us home.  Then I am on vacation until the 2nd.  I can't wait!

I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday!

Oh, and would those of you with snow send some our way?  We are just getting freezing rain, again.  For the third time in a week.  We were supposed to spend Christmas in upstate New York with my parents, where they have a couple of feet on the ground, but my daughter went and made the high school swim team and has practice all through break, so we had to change our plans.  I'm really proud of my daughter, but I'm missing the snow.  Of course, if the ice keeps building up, we'll be able to ice skate on our driveway soon.

Okay, enough whining from me!  Have a very merry whatever you're having!

This series of pictures is of my brother in law, Jared, who is forever young at heart.  They had snow followed by freezing rain.  It provided a nice sheet of Ice for the guys to play with.

I really envy my sister's camera, but I am not willing to invest thousands of dollars to take great photos...at least not at this point.

There are a bunch more really fun photos in this album.

This is from a recent trip to Rattlesnake ledge.  I had been there two weeks before and it was bare.

On my hike at rattlesnake ledge I found a little tree frog sitting in the snow.  I gave him a lecture and escorted him a mile down the mountain to a little grove of ferns and decomposing cedar logs.  I realized too late that he is probably a prince in disguise.    I guess I will have to keep looking...

Merry Christmas All!

The USPS didn't let me down.  The snow arrived in Bartow Florida yesterday afternoon.  It turns out that the girls had never seen/experienced snow before.  I am really looking forward to the pics and video when they come...

Yay!

That was such a cool gift.  And thanks to all for the snow pictures.  I'm hoping to get up north in March, after swim season.  Hopefully there will still be snow on the mountain so I can ski.

I am having a great day today.  Very relaxing.  I hope you all are enjoying your holiday.

Hope everyone had a nice christmas.
Being jewish on christmas is really helpful for training.
I went biking yesterday morning at 7 am and there wasnt a soul on the road, it was awesome! i was flying down main roads and intersections like I was will smith in "I am legend".
Then got to finish the ride off with 5 minutes at the ocean watching the crystaline water break in waves across the shore-looked so good that next week im putting my jammers in my carry-bag so i can finish the bike with a nice ocean swim.
Anyways i hope everyone got what they wanted and enjoyed the time with their family.
NOW GET BACK TO TRAINING

They seem really neat, but I can't imagine trying to use one in a crowded lap swim.

I guess I'm lucky, at 5AM I am the ONLY person in the pool, (other than the old lady that floats in the next lane)

I am going to head over to the new Y right now and see about a membership.  They have a 5:30 am lap swim that I am hoping to frequent.

I got a trainer for Christmas and have been trying it out the last couple of days, although I haven't had a lot of time.  I've been using the introductory spinervals dvd that came with the trainer and it is intense! But it's really fun to be going so hard, and I'm happy to be back on the bike (my wife banned me from riding after dark or in the snow so I've been out of luck lately).

Hope everyone had a great Christmas.  BeginnerMan, I hope the zombies didn't bother you too much on your I Am Legend ride.

I have decided on my January/winter challenge goals.  I am doing the CHALLENGE Challenge-goal is 5 runs a week.  I am also doing the swim challenge through March.  I will be working on reducing my half mile time and improving my pacing.

And there there are push-ups...

I signed on for the January peach challenge.  The first few weeks of January are crazy busy for me at work, probably 60-70 hours a week, so hopefully that challenge will motivate me to stick with my plan.  I will probably have to sacrifice sleep, but I can catch up in February.

And push-ups are part of that plan!

I like the idea of the peach challenge.  I will be in full swing of running and tri training so it should be a way for me to make sure I get my workouts in.  I looked back at Dec. and I had only one 2 yellow boxes plus one green for a 10K.  The rest were some peach color.

I give you my sympathies

Trainers are a great way to get the miles in over the winter and early dark days.

I think I ate my weight in sweets over the past few days.  Looks like we're ready to get training again, though.  I actually get to start racing this weekend!  Good way to kick the new year off.

That's awesome you have a tri so early in the season.  What's it like?  Pool swim?  I'm assuming you get to bike and run outdoors in Florida still.

I'm doing the Mississippi Blues Half Marathon.  Last year they took a half marathon that was run on the Natchez Trace, moved it to downtown Jackson, got some big sponsors, and added prize money and a BQ eligible full marathon course to go with the half.  Participation went from 250 to 1500.  This year they have 3000 open slots and it's almost sold out.  There is music on the course, it starts and finishes in a revitalized arts district, and there is some damn good pizza from a local place and beer at the finish line along with a blues concert.

Next year, I'm going for the full

damn that sounds awesome!!!!!! have a few extra slices and brews for us!!
Actually the race im doing is a lake swim-only 400M, try not to get killed by alligators, then a 10 mile bike ride looping twice, and a 5K to finish. itll be a good first one for me, and im hoping that since ive been training i hopefully will finish top 10 in the under-39 cateogry(theres only four cats-below 39 and above, male and female) but its just to get my "race" feet.
I do bike and run outside when i can, but sometimes i gotta use the staionary at the gym or the trainer if its too dark-wife doesn't want me getting killed-and since im not training for an IM yet, i give in.
ill post a short recap for the group when i get done on sunday. just treating it as an extended training day on my plan.

Ah, the benefits of living in florida.

Up here in the PNW tri's don't start up until may-there may be a few tris for the stoic in mid-late april.
