thanks for the input on the 10 speed.  I was just talking to a LBS a few weeks ago and planned on dropping it off soon to see what they would charge me for cleaning it up and making sure it works again.

BTW, I wanted to let you know Anne, that I really appreciate your "inspire me's"  It's nice to know that someone notices when you're gone and is rooting for you out there.  I'm sure I speak for everyone that you are a great mentor

My body sure could use a day off.....just getting back into the 6days a week training is making my muscles groan. I'm trying to make it to Tuesday as being my next day off, since that is my travel day. I'm also trying to watch it and make sure I am not Over Training, so since I do not follow my exact training plan due to scheduling conflicts, I'm trying to make sure I hit my totals in each area (total minutes) and don't go way over. Mike is the prime example of overtraining and overuse injuries, and those scare me- I always worry that, if I really truly get hurt, I'll just give up and become a couch potato again.

My bike arrived! Yeah! But the piece that connects the rear derailer to the bike BROKE during shipiing. Booooo....so, already, we have to replace parts. Oh well. So it's here, it's in the process of getting put together, and it is in need of a good cleaning before I ride it for the first time (and new tires and tubes before I hit the real road). It is SO much lighter than my old bike. Big difference.

Our warming trend in Ohio ends this weekend, but I'm hoping it holds off so I can get one last run in Saturday morning. Everyone have a good training day!

And thanks for the compliments. Totally not needed. I like checking your logs and leaving you notes. Plus reading your training logs helps inspire me and keep me going. So, you keep up the good work!

Well, my 10K is off for next week.  I'm not sure what happened, but the date on Active.com is not accurate, and I can't run a 10K and a 5K on the same day.  The 5K is 2 miles from my house, and the 10K is 35 miles from my house, so I'm running the 5K.

On a happy note, I'm feeling much better and I set a new running distance PR today - 10 miles!  I'm also getting back in the pool, this week, hopefully tomorrow.  I'm hoping that the weather people are wrong and we aren't going to get a foot of snow tonight.  Maybe I'll be putting in some serious trainer time tomorrow....

Matt

Scout21-sorry about your race.  I really enjoy the 10k distance and can imagine how bummed you must be.  Good luck with the 5k.

Ann-sweet ride!

The team that I am on had their last "bike buy" for awesome prices today. I toyed with the idea of a new bike (I just got a new TT bike in October). I am regretting the TT purchase and wish I would've just gotten a women's specific road bike. I know I can get aero in the drops and would rather have a bike that I can ride in the neighborhood also. I don't know that I will do a whole lot of tri's this year. I think I actually want to do a tour. I really really really want a trek wsd bike (madone 4.5). I think I am going to sell my new bike after my 2 tri's and then wait for it to get a little discounted at the end of the season. That is my plan at least.

Have a great week of training everyone! jo

It's MONDAY!

We head to warm, sunny St. Petersburg, FL, tomorrow morning. I'm hoping for lots of running outside and enjoying the sun.

Matt, sorry to hear about that race conflict. Let us know how the 5k goes!

Jo, sounds like a good plan for the bike. Lots of people will be looking for bikes at the end of the season, and you never know- you might fall in love with your tri bike and want to keep it.

Everyone have a great week!

Outstanding swim today.  First one in nearly two weeks, and I was not only able to go 2500 yards, but I had my pace DOWN.  The last 1000 yards of that was rest free.  That's the farthest I've ever been able to swim without taking breaks.  I definitely didn't set any speed records, but I didn't rest on the wall at all either.  The swim part of the tri is getting less and less intimidating!

Matt- GREAT JOB on that swim! What an accomplishment!

We got here around 10am yesterday morning and spent our day walking around downtown St. Petersburg, and then driving out to the beaches. We tried to walk Indian Rocks beach but it was very windy and cool- barely 60. Today is supposed to be warmer.

Hope everyone is having a great week! I'm hoping to do an outside run tomorrow morning. We'll see....the schedule is a bit crazy and depends on when I have to check out. Fly home tomorrow night. Maybe the warm weather will follow us home!

Good job Matt, I keep hoping my speed with increase, but I seem to be stuck for awhile.

Anne, please bring home warm weather to Ohio with you.  I ran outside yesterday with sunshine, but was still awfully cold!

Hey Anne - I've been to IRB!  My mom lives in Largo, which is right outside of Tampa.  If I'm not mistaken (which I very well may be!), there is an outstanding sea food restaurant on the little boardwalk section of town where the boats come in from the gulf loaded down with grouper.  Try the grouper cheek soup!  It's incredible!

There is a 1 month ban on fisihing grouper right now. So sad.

We ate out at IRB last night- went to Guppy, a fantastic restaurant. I think I saw the one you were talking about, Matt- maybe called PJ's?

Looks like the Ohio weather is a bit warmer....just not as warm as here. I really want to move, but then I think about summer and how insanely hot it gets...oh, and Hurricanes.

We ate at a little local deli yesterday and the owner is a female age group winner- 2nd place in Ironman Florida 70.3. She has done Ironman New Zealand- there are pictures and medals EVERYWHERE. That was pretty cool.

I'm about to take MIke over to his class, then hit a little running path around a lake for a good half hour run, then back here to shower and pack. This week has turned into a rest week for both of us; I have my best girlfriends coming in for a girls weekend as soon as we get home, and new carpet going into our bedroom on Friday morning. So sorry, training schedule. And I am not being a good example this week!

The rest of you, keep training. I'll get my butt in gear as soon as I get past this week.

Sounds like a great trip, and the training will still be there when you return.

I have a question about goggles.  I bought a pair of inexpensive speedo goggles when I started swimming.  I've noticed the last couple of times when I'm done swimming that the bags under my eyes seem even more accentuated, probably from the suction of the goggles.  It seems to last for a couple of hours when I get to work and probably no one else notices but me, but I hate it.

Does anyone have a suggestion of goggles that will work to keep water out, but might not do this quite as much?

I always look like that because I don't sleep enough!  But then again, I don't really care!  I have seen some people wearing bigger goggles.  They almost look like snorkeling goggles, but they aren't that big. This might be an option for you.

Kind of like this...And I mean the things labeled Aqua Sphere.  NOT the things that the hard hat guy has on!

Ginny, I'm a goggle weenie (I'm very particular about how they feel).  So far I have LOVED the AquaSphere Seal XP, the smaller versions.  They are  loser to a dive mask than goggles, but they work great and don't leave google-marks.  Also the AquaSphere Kaimens have been really good, again I have t use the smaller/femme size.  Also, TYRs stuff is pretty good and they have a new sizing system that is wonderful.  I was actually using a pair of kids goggles called Swimples, but I moved up to the new Kaimens.  I haven't had any luck with Speedos-must be me because everyone else loves them.  I think the key is to get ones with the soft silicone seals.  Good Luck.

We're back; fitting in a bike later if I am lucky. My oldest kid is home sick today.

I'm partial to the Speedos, the ones that have the rubber, not foam. But they do leave goggle marks. I've had those my whole swimming life, so I do not mind it. I also do not have to go around people after a swim so it does not matter. Sounds like everyone else likes the Aquasphere? ones- let us know if you try them and like them!

I'm acutally partial to Tyr.  I tried nike and speedo goggles, and didn't find them as comfortable as the Tyr's.

I was able to get 20 miles in on my bike outside today at lunch time.  Supposed to hit 70 here this weekend.  Looking forward to another 10 mile run in SHORTS tomorrow, and a long ride on Suday.

Great job with the 20 miles on the bike.  I really want to get outside on my bike but it rained and rained and rained all weekend.  I did get some short runs in outside.

I use speedo googles and don't have much problems with them.  I did buy a pair of tyr but I haven't tried them yet.  I scored them at an REI "garage" sale for $5.  If you have an REI around you, watch for the garage sales.  There are awesome buys but you have to be an early bird.

Hope everyone had a great weekend.  jo

Thanks everyone for the info.  I'll be out goggle shopping soon.  Was hoping to go this past weekend, but it was just a nice stay at home weekend.

Gorgeous weather here, up to 75, went for a nice walk/hike w/dbf and washed the cars.  Of course it's going to be back in the 30's before the end of the week.

Happy Monday, everyone!

We are back to a somewhat normal routine. I have not been to the pool in forever, and it looks like today is not going to happen either. Our kids are getting over a virus, and Sophie is just not acting like herself. I'm guessing it's the tail end of a fever. I have a very silly goal of getting all of my training minutes in this week.

I'll check on your logs later. Hope everyone is healthy and training is going well!

Hey, I'm sorry I've been a bad group member.  I've been so nervous about my half marathon that was last weekend that I've been avoiding BT. Anyways, now that that is behind me and I know I can do it (even though I'm slow) I can get back to training without all the pressure. My next race I've signed up for is in May.  It's a sprint distance at Disney, the Danskin. We'll see if I sign up for another one before then.  I've got race addiction since i just came off the race high. Looking forward to checking back in with everyone. Have a great week!
