I know ,I know ,ride more. Like I said Last year I only rode my bike once before the race due to snow. this year I have up the time and miles on my trainer over the winter . I never even had a trainer last year. My miles and time for the whole 2008 year was only 1300 I didn't get a bike untill April. This year I have already put in almost 800 mi and I did get in 3 good rides outside before the race . I was out even when we still had some snow coverage. So I guess what I am confussed about is. I know I may never be a good biker but at what point can one expect to see an improvement!!! I am biking 3X week. I try to bike a min of and hour for 2 of the rides and one longer ride. I suck at hills and know I could gain something here from riding more of them. Thats in the plan for this spring ( our spring just started) I do this for enjoyment but yet I still would like to feel as my hard work isn't a waste of effort and that I will get better at this.

JeepFleeb - 2009-04-29 4:19 PM The is VERY challenging at first but it greatly improves your bike handling skills.

I'll vouch for this.  I have provided some good entertainment for my family by crashing off my rollers into various pieces of furnitureSurprised  I do feel they greatly improved my handling skills over the winter (the rollers, not the furniture).

Thank you for the help. I laugh about the rollers. I watched the clip on using them. What the heck scarey !!! If it will help I am pretty much willing to try anything. I do have a weak core and I think that will be my next investment for this next winter !

Ok, this season has been on hold long enough.  I am going to get a new plan together.  If I give myself 20ish weeks out for my A race, that would line up with the Stonebridge Race (which was my first race so that would be cool).  I would like to do a race between now and then and am torn between Playtri festival and Disco.  The budget is extremely tight this year and don't want to push it and do both.  I am leaning towards playtri, but Disco sounds like it will be fun.  Aaron, which one do you think?

I have found a love for Netflix because of that. Hang in there.

Kind of depends.  Tom always makes his open water swims short which I'm not a fan of.  If I'm going to do an olympic then I want it to be the international standard for what an olympic distance tri is.

The roads are better quality at Playtri, but it's probably a bit tougher course.  This might be different though because Staci had to make some changes to the course.  I'd have to ask her.  But if you're only doing the sprint the roads at Disco aren't nearly as bad.

Obviously I'm biased towards Playtri.

Thanks for the thoughts and points.  I will probably just do Sprints this year.  I dont like short swims either, that is my best event so I need all the advantage I can get.  And a challenging bike course sounds good since it is more of a training race and I would get more work in.  Sold.

I know you are potentially biased towards Playtri, but you are pretty honest when asked about races from the posts I have read.  And Playtri puts on a good race, only questionable thing I have seen was having the wetsuit strippers have people lay down right in the middle of the course blocking other athletes at King Tut.  And the other good thing about the playtri...the location, lots of good places to eat right after.

Hey Aaron, why do some of us swell when training?  I posted in Health Issues & Injuries forum, I'm impatient waiting for a reply though, figured I'd ask you, too.

I will be doing the sprint on the 5th so if you end up picking that one it would be nice to meet up.

Cool.  Either way I will be at both, but will only compete in one.

Hello everyone. Hope you all have good weekends planned.

Aaron, I am working on logging my nutrition in BT. You keep track of Calories, Carbs, Protein, and Fats. Are these the important components to try and keep track of? Do you know of any Tri specific nutrition resources that would be helpful?

Thanks!

Well...at least you had fun, and ultimately, that is the most important thing, right?  That's why we do thisLaughing

The Historic McKinney Kiwanis Triathlon is in the books. Race report is posted. It was a lot of fun. Even though the weather was not the best, it could have been much worse. Crazy Thunderstorms all night leading up to race day. I wonder if the complete lack of training 2 weeks before the race affected my overall performance. I felt much stronger in training leading up to this weekend, than I did on race day. Could that much time off really affect me that much? I think maybe.

Congratulations! Aaron on your Qualifying. That is awesome! Sound like you had the exact opposite weather.

Update: I qualified for Clearwater!

Who would have guessed that would happen on such a bad day?!?

Race report as soon as I get back home to Texas.

Way to go Aaron!

Weekly Check In...
Looks like it's gonna be another busy week. Lots of swim, bike, run for me again.  At the end of this week, I get to start the training plan all over again since I will actually be 20 weeks out from my Big race of the year.  At least now I know what to expect of the plan.  Still struggling a little with the volume in this plan. Not sure how people with 9-5 jobs and families find enough time to do all "tri" training and then try to throw the core and strength training on top of it.  Any suggestions from those who have done it?  Hopefully things will get easier as there is more daylight and I can get out earlier and later in the day to bike or run.
Last week had a good long run, long swim and long bike, just not in the same day.  Need to work on that.
Have a great week All!Smile

Congrats Aaron!  That's awesome! Cool

I'm happy with my half marathon yesterday.  I thought I would be walking quite a bit during it, but didn't have to do that at all (except when I took a few steps for drinks).

Now on to the triathlons!
