.
I was also at T2 for much of the afternoon, although a little disheartening to watch some of those bikers hobble thru with a marathon to go. I also volunteered at IMLP in '08 as a bike catcher. It rained all day and was a muddy mess (racks were set up in the grass). Next time I would definitely want to be at the finish line. Very inspirational to see those finishers during the last hours.

There was a point during the day that I really thought hard about whether I wanted to do an IM or not!  I remember one guy who came in well in front of the bike cutoff with a faraway look in his eyes and said he was finished.  When he told me it was his first IM, I suggested he rest since he had plenty of time.  Some guys worked with him to get some energy back, he cramped up a couple times, but later I saw him put on his number and head out for the run.  I wish I would have gotten his number to check to see if he finished.  Hopefully he did.  Plenty of "carnage" as our team captain called it.

I also saw that glazed look on many faces at IMLP - it had pretty much rained all day with some heavy downpours during the bike leg. I watched as two guys needed help just getting off their bikes - I caught one of them at mile 13 and he actually looked to be doing pretty well. Some second wind! Not being much of a cyclist, I going to have to promise myself to take it easy on those loops.

It seems like a LOOOOOOOOONG way off to me.  Have people already started their IM training plan?

ok, good, I feel better now.  I'm off to Hawaii for two weeks with no bike and limited running due to the stress fracture.  I am taking my wetsuit though!

I started last week but it's with an IMOO training group and I think we have a lot of base built into the front end of the program so while it's technically training for IM it's not like we're building yet.

I started a HIM plan at the beginning of January for a late June HIM. My official IM plan starts 20 weeks out from IMWI, but the HIM plan is the precursor and everything I'm doing this year is around IMWI.

ETA: Just realized my IM plan starts in 11 weeks. Yikes.

I technically start my IM training on 4/26, but I am starting with some base building on about 3/8 or so...Have sort of a base plan going, but nothing concrete or super strict, just to get my body used to the extra hours again.

Feb 15th is my start.  Not that I've trained my brains out for early burnout, but this is a recovery week for me - I need it.

I'm currently in my build phase - Jan/Feb are swim focused months for me.............focusing on my weakness. Lots of drill work - building efficiency/speed/power in the pool. Getting into March, I'll be focusin on sport specific blocks. Have a few 5ks in March leading into April and first sprint tri of the year. Endurance base will start first week of April - few sprints a half mary and Du in May leading into a 70.3 in late June - Oly in July, then into IMWI.

Last year was my 1/2 Iron year and I already feel like I am way ahead of where I was this time last season. Looking forward to a fun, healthy, and safe season!!

Happy and Safe training to all!

Wife and I are both racing IMWI this year and both of our plans technically begin next week

I say "technically" because we've got a marathon on Valentine's day and I don't think we'll be quite ready to go next week.

I started my base building on 12/1.  I'll move into the IM training in mid April.  Needed to drastically up my swim volume from the previous year.  My goal is to have between 300k and 350k yards in by race day.  Last year for IMCDA I was only at 200k.

I kind of started training, I'm doing disney 70.3 so I'm really training for that although its like a B- goal and more of a stepping stone to full on ironman training come june.  Really just getting my base back and getting my weight down (or trying anyhow!) at the moment...  can't wait until we are all in the full swing of things!

Let's see see - 70.3 Disney, get base back, lose weight......  Yup that about sums it up for me as well.  See ya there Ironlib.  By the way I just talked my brother into joining me at 70.3 Disney so the party keeps on growing!  Should be fun, good luck with training.
