kind of late to post but was travelling last week, these are my March Goals

1. First and foremost, get back to consistent training!!

2.  Lose 8 lbs -> actually gained like 2 pounds in February, my training has not been consistent

3.  Stick to 3x per week training for S/B/R

4. Start to ride outside -> weather is improving and went out for the first time since I bought the clips, 200 yds out, tried to unclip and fell.

5. Join a master's swimming class -> Done, first swim yesterday

Very basic but really needed

This will be a very busy 5 weeks for me! This is the last 5 weeks before a 3 week taper and then the big day (I will also do a 1/2 IM distance race on the 27th as a race tester!).

Goals for the month
1. Complete as many workouts as possible (should be 100% but wont be upset if I miss one or two)
2. Tighten up on nutreint (really would like to drop 10lbs before race day, but will not be pushing the issue)
3. Make sure I dont become to consumed in training that I ignore the family!

Hope everyone elses training is going great!!!

way to go !!

so I got my first OWS at a lake on saturday and it was not a pretty sight.  I basically froze and could not go for more thant 10 strokes without stopping.  With the water being as cold as it was, I was not exhaling properly under water.  I did not panic but did not feel comfortable at all.

master's swimming is helping, but I have not been able to go over 1300 yds per session.  I am pretty sure I need to increase my swim to build up endurance and feel more comfortable
Is it better to do longer sets 200-300 rather than 25/50's?
Should I swim more often or try to go for the 2500 yd session even if it takes me longer?
I will incorporate one long swim at least once a week.  Do I need to do intervals or go the distance?
Do you have a different set of goggles for OWS? any recommendations?

@masters do you have a coach on deck? or it just a printed workout somewhere? If you're struggling with 1300 yds sessions, I'm guessing your doing a lot of fighting in the water.

I would extend your sets past 50yds. Generally the shorter the set the harder you swim. 50's would be very hard and 25's would be all out type effort assuming they're not drills.

200-300 are good length sets to do....try and stay nice and steady. Dont' start off too fast.
