I love catching up on my TV shows while on the trainer.  I do a moderate intensity/moderate resistance during the show, then during commercials, pop it into the big chainring on the front and the smallest on the back and do an out-of-the saddle hill climb.  I know, I know... the whole idea behind DVR is to fast forward through the commercials, but it helps to vary the workout.  By the way, who shot JR?

Hmmm, that's a good idea!  I don't have a DVR so I'm forced to either watch commercials or flip channels (I know I'm in the dark ages, but before I bought my trainer in Feb, I can't remember the last time I turned on my TV).

Next time I'll just practice climbing during commercials!!

Missy, I hadn't watched tv in forever either until we got our trainers.  They are great for both biking during the crappy outdoor months and catching up on some tv!
My husband and I would also play a "game" during 24 (no commercials with Netflix) where we each picked a character.  Every time that character was on screen, we had to sprint.

That sounds like fun.  Too bad I don't have a trainer.

I got mine mid-Feb, and haven't been that consistent in using it.  It's definitely convenient for riding in bad weather, as long as you remember to get on it!

Rhoda, that's another good idea for a game!  So, I probably shouldn't pick Jack Bauer, huh?

Only pick Jack if you are looking to pass out and fall off the trainer...  Wink

I've been waiting for the official announcement. I added a line to my signature but then thought I would wait for something official to be sensitive to those who were on the "other team" that have now seen the light and joined the right team for this month's challengeWink.  I'm sad that we lost a couple though.

Only if you add an avatar with the signature line!

Mountain biking was my first love so I wouldn't really have a problem with that. These xterra races he talks about sound like a lot of fun to me.

Just finished my 5 mile run and felt great.  My avg HR was about 7 bpm lower (I do the same 5 mile run on the treadmill at lunch 3 times a week), and I felt like my RPE was lower as well.  If the trend continues tomorrow, I might start slowly adding more volume or speed.  Nothing drastic...but I think I'm breaking through a small plateau.

Hmmm... tempting!  My husband and I have been alternating Dallas and 24 reruns from Netflix to watch on our trainers.  We're almost caught up on 24 though and have been debating what series to do next.

I started watching another series from that time that I used to really enjoy, Quantum Leap. Its not the same. I don't think I even finished the first season.

Ooooh, I love that show and now that i'm thinking of it, I don't know that I ever saw the last episode. Hmmmm!?

I think I need to start watching DVDs while on the trainer. . . I've just been relying on good old regular TV.  I'll add 24 to my list of things to watch.  Does anyone else have any other suggestions?

If you are at all a cryer (like me Cry), I do NOT recommend Grey's Anatomy.  I've been watching that sometimes DVRd on tv and crying while biking is not a good thing!!

I've heard Lost is good?  I was thinking about that next...

I absolutely love Lost but if you're anything like me, it would not be a good trainer show. IMO, Lost is one of those that you have to listen to every single word of every single show to know/understand what is going on and I just am not capable of that while on the trainer!

Awesome...I love how it just kind of sneaks up on ya, huh?! It's like one day things just click and you realize that you really are getting faster!! Now if only that kind of thing would happen to me in the pool...but wait a second, that would entail me actually getting in and swimming, huh?!

We used to love to watch lost. You really did have to pay attention with the commercials that weren't really commercials and other hints and things in the show. Then there was the stuff you had to go to the internet and check out to get clues about the show and the background story. We finally lost interest though. I think I only watched a couple episodes of season 4 and haven't seen anything since. I also don't think it would be the same watching it on DVD or online because the website stuff for each episode wouldn't be there any more.

I don't go around taking pictures of myself very often so I don't really have anything to use for an avatar picture.  I've been trying to think of some clever picture I could have my wife take but I'm not clever. I have a picture that I have used for an avatar in the past when I have been pushed to get one.  Its not a picture of me though and there is a story behind it. I have to go meet my family so I can't post it now.  Maybe this evening when I get home.
