I knew I picked the wrong inspire today. I should have gone with Life is short, running makes it seem longer. I have speedplay pedals. LOVE THEM!!! GREAT QUOTE! You have them, maybe you can advise: right foot slips in/out smooth as butter, no effort, from various angle / positions. Left foot is much harder - can only disengage if foot's at bottom of the (what's the right word - stroke? cycle? whatever), and only with a lot of effort. If I've started to lean at all, I can't get the correct angle & torque to extract my left foot at all, so I fall. Bike shop guy first said "of course it's hard, you're lifting your heel, it's not flat," to which I replied that I had to lift my heel some to get enough force - even if I consciously keep my foot flat, I've got to work it HARD. They tweaked it, not much difference, asked me to give it another week, and then bring it in to replace if still no better. They even suggested maybe the right foot setup was the defective one & not the left. What's your $.02? I've been trading VM with a guy at speedplay, but no conversation yet. Do your feet slip out pretty easily? And, does your leg have to be fully extended to be able to do so? thanks much! |

Do your feet slip out pretty easily? And, does your leg have to be fully extended to be able to do so? thanks much! Well I do have to have my leg pretty straight to unclip, but it doesn't take a lot of force to do so. I do feel I have to kick my heal out pretty far to unclip. FWIW - The first time I clipped in my left foot I could not for the life of me get it unclipped. I had my bike on the trainer. I took my shoe off and tried pulling it with my hand and could get it unclipped. I eventually had to take the whole pedal off, remove the cleat from my shoe, and take a pair of pliers to pull this little metal horse shoe part of the pedal off of my shoe. I then used the pliers to bend this piece just a little wider and haven't had any problems since. |

Veteran 220 | Subject: RE: The Ghoulie Mentor Group - Full I have some shimano & currently use LOOK, never tried speedplay but know many ppl that love them. Is that a trait of speedplay(hard to unhook)? My look pedals are super easy, unless you unclip your left foot and try to step down on your right side . |

Expert 1694 Illinois | Subject: RE: The Ghoulie Mentor Group - Full ransick - 2010-04-08 9:40 PM abake - 2010-04-08 9:00 PM Looks like we will be at some of the same races -- I am doing Sullivan Sprint, Tri Shark and the Lake Springfield tri (not sure if sprint or oly distance) Ryan is doing the Sullivan tri too (bigr82). I was hoping to go cheer him on for his first try but I'll be traveling that day. I didn't sign up for tri-shark because I'll be on vacation that week. Are you signed up? It looks like registration is already closed. I'm hoping to do the oly distance in Springfield but it really depends on how I feel for my first two tris and how much training I think I can stick with and balance family life. We can try to talk Ryan in to doing the Springfiled tri then hopefully we can all meet up. Where you from in IL? I live in Edwardsville and Ryan and I plan to meet for some bike rides and hopefully open water swims. Outstanding. Yes, Tri Shark closes very quickly, sometimes in 2 or 3 days. I registered as soon as it opened up. A BT meetup would be great! I am in Springfield. |

Expert 1694 Illinois | Subject: RE: The Ghoulie Mentor Group - Full ironannekidd - 2010-04-09 6:06 AM Good morning Ghoulie mentee's! What's on tap for today? I think today is a rest day for me. WOOHOO!!! 30 miles on the bike tomorrow, and it is supposed to be windy, ugh, followed by a short run. Darn wind!!! Maybe it will be a tailwind, one can always hope. Gonna do some circuit weight stuff tonight, then a swim, then wine & grilling with my young man. This weekend will be crazy -- we (siblings and their respective families) are moving my Mom out of her big house into a retirement condo, and my brother and his crew are moving INTO the big house. Kind of like one giant transition... |
