Crews-Tattoos really aren't that bad. It feels about like hot sandpaper being rubbed on your skin. I plan on getting an epic tattoo after Nations. The downside is you can't soak a fresh tattoo so it means 2-3 weeks without swimming.

I had a good ride this afternoon. I was much more confident and really improved my pace. I did 6 miles and I think I'll attempt something longer tomorrow. It's gonna suck when I have to go back to work and can't train during the day.

I'm sick (well, I do triathlons, of course) but I like the feeling of getting tattoos. To me it's like a big deep long scratch, with a few moments of stinging that might make me yelp. I have a big one down my left thigh and then that ankle one that's about 4x4 in. Funny when I got it I had no idea of sports tattoos, or Mdot tattoos (I knew about the Ironman and 70.3 series, though, and triathlons in general) ... I got it on a whim, on the last day I was in Hawaii after doing the Honolulu Marathon.

Note to self and others: do not allow someone to tattoo your own handwriting on you.

Can someone please flipper my azz so that I come up with some kind of training plan for between now and when the IM plan starts, and also, to make hotel reservations for IMWA already. Thanks.

*THWACK*

Consider yourself flippered.  Get a move on lady!

Returning to our earlier discussion of bra sizes (and apologies in advance to token male Ryan), I just wanted to share that I've lost so much weight in my upper half that I apparently no longer require one.  Why is it that the fifteen pounds I've lost are all up top?  My current proportions are similar to what you would get if you took a Skipper dolls upper half and planted it on Betty Boop's lower half.  Except my curves are more cottage cheesy.  Life isn't fair.

Allison-I think we suffer from similar proportion issues. Why can't I look like Betty Boop on both top & bottom?

Good morning, Manatees! What's on tap for everyone today?

<Thwack!>

Did that help, Yanti?  Having flippers rocks.  I think they might help me with my swim!

Was able to get up early for my morning swim but I wasn't dressed appropriately for the rain, so I nixed the bike and got on the treadmill.  I took an off day yesterday (Monday's are so hard!) so now I need to adjust my plan.

Anyone use Sporty Pal?

Have a great day all!

KERRY! YOUR LOGS! USE THEM so we can tell you how awesomely you did your swim. Go into Settings (wrench icon, upper left) and make sure you check or uncheck the appropriate boxes so we can see your logs.

I'm scarfing a giant plate of spaghetti before going on a run with the dogs. Excellent

Thanks Kerry and Allison and Dineen for the THWACKS ... I did indeed make hotel reservations. And my training plan for IM starts in four weeks, so until then I'm just going to keep building steadily and training consistently. I'll be fine for the June Oly. Oh yeah--I'm composing an arrangement of the national anthem for my choir to sing to open that tri, the Bali International Triathlon!

(I don't compose or write music. This is irrelevant, I think. Just like things like not knowing how to swim or bike or not being able to run, or not having arms and/or legs does NOT keep one from tri'ing. Just saying.)

Now I want garlic bread.  It's 9:45 am here.... that's just wrong.  I have an eating problem, obviously.  I will settle for a banana.

LOL!

Yanti, I thought I made my logs available to friends, so I just made them public.  Let me know if you can't see it because I have been using it.

A banana, ultimately, will actually make you happier. It just doesn't go as well with spaghetti.

Yes, the logs are great now! I can finish up our team table and post it or make you guys copy it from my log. YAAAAAY thank you.

Bread is my favorite...any kind really.  I made a roast with carrots for dinner yesterday.  Did I eat mostly carrots with a little meat?  Absolutely not!  I had about 4 rolls dipped in the gravy.  Now that's healthy!

I  you.

I had a boyfriend once who, other than the fact that he only drank beer and was really cute, had this going for him: the saying "Everything in moderation, including moderation."

It means that once in a while, ya gotta eat four rolls with gravy.

i agree.  It's good to go all out once in awhile.  I never really ate dessert until I got married haha.  Now I almost have a craving for it after ever meal...it's hard!  Luckily Skinny Cow ice cream has saved me many times

JFT. What haven't you done in a while (last was bike, so maybe a run because it's easy to do)?

I have to say that importing the BT plan was the best thing I have done.

Many people I know just track via a spreadsheet.  But I really needed someone to TELL me what to do.  In preparation for the July sprint tri, and coming from very little training, I downloaded the couch to sprint tri plan.  I am doing a lot more than what their plan calls for, but I don't think that is frowned upon Innocent

Question, should I invest in a HRM?  I see a lot about them, but don't really know what I need.  I track my runs and bikes via Sporty Pal on my Droid, but it doesn't do HR monitoring obviously.

Yeah I was thinking of a run after work because the weather is supposed to be nice.  Plus I loathe going to the gym after work and waiting for a swim lane.  Yes, I was looking into the BT plan. Last year I had a book that had plans in the back of it and I followed that (I think it was a 16-20 week plan for a sprint).  I too did more sometimes but it was nice to be "forced" to certain things sometimes.
I don't know much about HRM.  I don't have one and don't feel the need for one but I am sure others on here can better answer that Q for you.

Sorry for some reason when I am replying, the post that I am replying to does not appear in smaller font above my reply.

Fun toys, fun numbers, but it's also time, expense, and field testing to set your HR zones ... but honestly, with how busy you are, I'd train by Rating of Perceived Exertion (how easy/hard your effort is) and/or pace.

Especially for the first few years of tri (this is JUST MY OPINION) I think it is really good to get intimately tuned with how your body feels training at different efforts and paces, instead of relying on the numbers.

It's not the prettiest or cleanest, but it seems to be fully functional! (HA! Just like me!)

Should work to copy and paste from here into your log GOALS. If it doesn't, try copying directly from my log. If that doesn't work, or links are broken that you find out (I just tested them all and they work from my log) let me know.

Morning all.  I got a run in last night in the dark.  I don't normally run in the dark... man am I a chicken sh*t!  I kept thinking someone or something was going to jump out of a bush or run up behind me!  I didn't use my garmin since I knew I was going to be slow as molasses having no base.  I just want to get my mileage back up where it should be.  I know, I know I don't use the logs.  I guess I should start.  Last season I just kept track of bike and run on my garmin.  I think I will try to start using them.

My original plan was do to a half mary on May 2nd then start my 16 wk program that I have that week leading up to Timberman.  I scrapped the half mary since I don't have the base or distance to do it. I am now wondering if I start the 16  week program that week anyway even though I don't have a great base.  I am not looking to podium anywhere esp at Timberman.  I just want to cross the finish line before the cut off this year.  I really don't want to give up on Timberman just yet...

Allison- I just happened to click on your log and saw your comment about not wanting to run on sidewalks.  I can't stand running on the sidewalk.  I find it much easier/comfortable to run on the the street/asphalt.  I hate it when I have to jump over to the sidewalk.  I will only run on the sidewalk if there is too much traffic on the road I am on or on a blind curve.

What is the deal about sidewalks vs pavement?  I have never been a runner, so I don't get it.  Why is asphalt so much better?

Laura, can you start the 16 week training earlier?  I hope you don't have to drop timberlan

Yanti, thanks for updating the graphic!  I had to replace the thread link (just used a hard coded link) but it's great!!!  Thank you!!

My take on sidewalks is that it's packed concrete -- not much space or air between any of it vs. blacktopping, which is oiled and not as packed with more air so it's more cushioned, I believe. Dirt -- well it's just softer usually. At least that's been my experience. I usually run in the roads, facing traffic, and if someone's coming too close or doesn't look like they're paying attention, texting, talking to kids, reaching in the backseat, etc. I hop on the sidewalk. Once though when I hopped over to the sidewalk it was rainy and and wet and I slipped on the red line on the sidewalk and put a hole in my new running tights though so be careful of those wet redzone lines!
