You don't want to be like the other dummies and do have less than a year to start training after many years off? Good thing there's an "almost."

don't listen to a voice of reason..

DO IT !!!!

Did you just refer to Haley as a voice of reason?

Do you think this will replace CB&I? Especially with it being in May?

This sounds like something that I could definitely get on board with! I work for Memorial Hermann and they have been sponsoring a series of triathlons lately. They usually email staff and offer a handful of free entries but I doubt (though I could dream) that they would do it for a full IM.

I have definitely had the IM bug lately and this race would be perfect, though it would mean full on training during my last semester of nursing school. That could be a little hairy...

Lemme see here...isn't the first step to recovery admitting that you have a problem? Here goes...

I am 264 pounds, which is 44 pounds over my IMCDA weight from 2006
I have not actually swam, biked, or run "with a purpose" for a long time (longer than I can remember, actually)
I have not swam at all since February of 2009

Yet, despite all this, I am extremely excited and actually WANT to get back into training now.  As a good friend just told me 5 minutes ago...I now have a carrot in front of me; training and eating now have a purpose.

I can offer swim coaching. At a good price.

Good luck on getting back into it! YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!

Great job on the weight loss!

Ok I had a minute last night to download the audio from the township meeting. It cuts off at about 10 minutes but the discussion was only about 12 minutes, so you don't miss much at the end. (They recognized the 4 Ironmen in the room blah blah). Not cd quality here and you might have to turn the volume up a bit, but it's the best my blackberry could do. enjoy.

Well I have not done an IM yet. I do think that when they give a date I may have to sign up for this one being on my back porch.  TJ can any one go to the meeting next week?  I am excited about this and ready to give it a shot, and being that we train here it should get us ready for the heat and the course.

I think by law they are public. (see link with guidlines, etc)

On a side note....I went to the meeting yesterday to be a fly on the wall, but as I walked in I was asked to sign up and make some comments on the agenda item. I figured, it's a 3 minute limit and it's #9 on the agenda, so why not. I figured I had an hour to come up with a few sentences. Well I didn't read very well. Public comments were first! So I had approximately 120 seconds to come up with something. I muddled through it and the Chairman of the Board, says, " TJ, I have a question for you", (thinking it was going to be about the nature of the race or something), "Is it true the Director Hausman was your babysitter when you were a kid?" *insert laughter* . I admitted it was true. Live somewhere long enough I guess....

So chances are that the race will not be wetsuit legal.

Does USAT still allow speedsuits?  I know they have made some changes

It's not so much the USAT rules but WTC's rules that you need to be concerned with for an Ironman branded event.  Basically, they made up their own rules above and beyond USAT:

"Today, World Triathlon Corporation (WTC), owners of the Ironman and Ironman 70.3 Series, announces modifications to several rules and regulations relating to the swim at U.S. races. Effective September 1, 2010, which is the start of Ironman’s 2011 competition season, new rules for apparel and wetsuits will apply at all Ironman and 70.3 events in the U.S., including both World Championships. The amendments were made to further standardize rules in the Ironman/70.3 Series and ensure a fair playing field at events around the globe.

The changes will include the following:

  • Swimwear and swim apparel must be comprised of 100 percent textile material, such as nylon or lycra, and may not include rubberized material such as polyurethane or neoprene. Swimwear may not cover the neck or extend past the shoulders or knees. Swimwear may contain a zipper. A race kit or trisuit may be worn underneath swimwear.
  • Wetsuits cannot measure more than 5 millimeters thick.
  • Wetsuits may be worn in water temperatures up to and including 24.5 degrees Celsius/76.1 degrees Fahrenheit. Athletes who choose to wear a wetsuit in water temperatures exceeding 24.5 degrees C /76.1 degrees F will not be eligible for awards, including World Championship slots. Wetsuits will be prohibited in water temperatures greater than 28.8 degrees C/84 degrees F."

So then speedsuits are still OK...right?
