So little cycling...... Yap yap yap yap yap..... Commercial commercial commercial..... "Special" segment about Contador and his bike.... Commercial commercial commercial..... Yap yap yap yap yap..... 2 seconds of the actual biking.... Yap yap yap yap yap..... Commercial commercial commercial..... That is why I DVR the morning coverage and watch it at home later on. Yeah, I'm going to have to start recording the morning coverage. |

Heading to the gym for a treadmill run at lunctime (to avoid the 101 degree temperatures, I'll endure the dreadmill). At least this weekend the weather guessers are calling for cooler temperatures (high 80's, low 90's) I still haven't put my goals in the spreadsheet. For some reason, the spreadsheets are blocked here at work, but the BT site is not. It may be because our head of online security is a distance runner. But my goals will be 11 sessions each of swim, bike, run. I put your goals on the spreadsheet. You're now OFFICIAL. Of course, if you don't enter your progress, you'll be listed on the next Slacker list....... |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() wgraves7582 - 2010-07-07 9:20 AM LiamD - 2010-07-07 9:11 AM just curious so I'm coming to experts for answers! What's so special about the TdF that it gets all this coverage? Don't misunderstand - I love it but there are several other major 'Tours" that don't seem to receive the attention (at least in the USA.) The Swiss Tour, for example, was great but didn't see much about it except for the final TT. Is it a marketing thing, a Lance thing, or am I just not looking in the right places for coverage of the others? I am sure others might add more but I think when Greg LeMond starting winning it became a bigger draw in America. Then it just continued on with Lance. Bicycle racing is like futbol (soccer) in the rest of the world - it is huge. Not so much so in America - Niche sport! ETA - Universal or NBC's cable station shows a lot of them and versus covers the bigger tours just not as advertised. From Versus' perspective, there's a lot they can do to market it: Lance - 7 wins. AND he's *American.* Retired, but is now BACK. Can he go for 8 wins? Contador - Ooo, let's make him seem like Lance's biggest competitor. We can replay all the interviews last year when he and Lance weren't getting along so well to play up the drama. Etc. Plus, it's a LONG event. Most of the other tours are way shorter. With the TdF, they're hoping to capture the viewers' attention for three whole weeks. |

Thanks - makes sense! Cycling is kind of like soccer regarding the bandwagon thing. It used to bother me that people talked so much trash about soccer - boring, not enough scoring, less talented athletes, etc. Now, and especially during this year's World Cup, I'm fine with it. It gets a little tiring hearing all the "experts" lecture me about it after they've watched 3 games. Kinda like me giving you training advice! I am always open to advice !! I just ride my bike a lot! I stink at swimming and cannot run more than 3 miles with an injury issue! Good to hear your running is back up to 3 miles. I'm guessing the VFF helped? I'm stuck at 3 miles, too. Any more, and I end up with an injury. It makes me crazy..... I took over a month off completely, trying to get over the PF. I think it helped. But when I do more than 2.5 miles, it starts to flare up again. Bleh. I want to know the answer to the VFF question, too. ![]() |

Its after 9pm here, btw. We're not exactly the most disciplined of parents.... So...tomorrow I'd like to wake early and get to the gym. I think I can do it... we moved closer to my work, so no more 40 mins spent on I-25 in rush hour traffic. Yay! Happy Tuesday! Are you a native to Denver? I grew up in Lakewood and never had the privilege of having to drive in that traffic unless it was after a Bronco game. I am so glad I live in Buffalo with my 20 minute/20 mile commute - I hit traffic about 4 x a year and that is usually when it snows and people forget that we live in Buffalo and should know how to drive in the snow! Native? Who's a native of Colorado anymore ? ![]() Good point about Native people. Few and far between. I know some if you ever want to meet one - LOL Wow - that is a horrific commute - where do you work DTC? or south of there? My sister is over by Bowles/Wadsworth area and my mom is still off of 6th and Wadsworth. I remember when - do you want some stories or not?? - LOL I actually work at Buckley AFB in Aurora. So I had I-25 AND I-225. Bleh. We just moved to Lowry, which is super close to my work. Yay! hhhmmmm.... what kind of stories? Send 'em! |

My fiance and I were talking - he's a HUGE sports guy - and he was wondering how the US would do in the World Cup if our BEST athletes played soccer instead of basketball or football. How many pro bball or football guys played soccer growing up? A lot. I knew a kid who played soccer with Kobe Bryant when they were teenagers. |

Food isn't the best but its a fun and unique atmosphere. Sopapias (sp?) were very tasty. A local guy tried opening a similar style restaurant and was sued by Casa Bonita. I have heard they help with PF but you have to start super low mileage. Cheaper than orthotics I have heard but may not work. Sorry I cannot be more help. They work for some but not for others! Sort of like life! Ew on the nerve problem. I have numbness and pain that resulted after surgery a few years ago. However, running doesn't affect it. It's just always there. So I ignore it. (That's pretty much how I approach life. LOL) The PF is not gone, but it's been better lately. I wear XC flats (much to the dismay of my podiatrist), but have been thinking about trying VFFs. Hope the adjusted run style and yoga work for you! ![]() |

I lived in Denver for a year then moved to the ROCK when BabyDaddy took a job in the Springs. We split the commute. And the ROCK has definitely grown up - super super expensive place to live. It's nice, I just don't like commuting! And BabyDaddy quit his job so now there is no longer a reason to live there. My Dad did his Tech School at Lowry and about crapped his pants when we drove down 6th ave and saw all the big, new houses! And Navy? I wont hold that against you... GO ARMY! BEAT NAVY! Sort of like life! Bill, that sucks. I'm hoping that it works out for you. Injury sucks. Do you go to PT? Have a therapist or someone help with the running form? Let me know how it goes; I'm considering going back to PT. I broke my kankle 6 weeks after popping out a kid and was sidelined for way too long. I still have trouble running. Well, I still have 2 plates and a total of 6 screws in there still. I find now that my hips and knees hurt after running. |

That place is a riot. |

Expert![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hi non-team! Wow, you guys are chatty!! (Bill must be back ![]() Anyway, I was feeling a little under the weather after my trip, so I've been taking it easy. Good thing I planned for a taper, and added a bunch of extra yoga classes and swims into my goals for the month. So I've already been to 2 yoga classes since I've been back. Hopefully I'm back to 100% by the weekend for my last long run and bike ride before my race next week (though neither will be overly long or hard). |
