jlamm66 - 2011-07-24 7:59 PM  I may be going solo. Keri will be 8 months prego with twins by then and the Doc said no way on travel.

My wife will be around 8 months preggers as well, so I will be solo for the weekend as well.  I only plan to be in town for a short time as well.

I guess the two of us better get that race over quick so we can get back home!   You a ring knocker, (AKA West Point grad?).

I am not a WP grad, but stationed here now as an Ortho PA.  Do you have connections here?

Served with a lot of grads.  Two of my friends have kids attending West Point.

Hi everybody!! I am really getting excited/anxious about IMAZ! It will be my first Ironman, and so far training has been going pretty good! I had my longest OWS to date (1.5M) and longest bike 4hr. on Monday and I felt great.
I'm still trying to figure out the whole nutrition thing, and hopefully I'll figure it out soon! I have a Half Ironman in Sept., so I'll be able to test out my nutrition in a race situation, but other than that, it'll be trial and error throughout my long training days!

I have been struggling...just moved in April and started a new job.  Job is taking way more time and energy...especially mentally!  getting 8 hours of training has been tough.  I am finding my fitness is slipping and it is bugging me.  This is my second year doing tri's.  I did on half last September and another half this June.  My plan is to do one more half in October than this race.

I am getting a little worried that i will not be ready...the run is my weakest and I am worried about it.  I appreicate all your post on here...really helping me get motivated and finding my drive!

Just what i needed!

Hello All! I'm targeting IM AZ 2012 or my first IM. Just wondering how people signed up? I know it sells out quickly, but did you sign up on sight after volunteering, or were you successful getting in on line?

Thanks, and good luck and have fun to all this year!

I got lucky and signed up online.  It sold out pretty quick but I had no problem getting in.  Make sure you have your info already to go for your active account.  I kept getting kicked back until I remembered an earlier post about cleaning out the cookies.   Went right through after doing that.  Good luck!

I got in online too. After a few stressful moments of hitting reload I got in about 6 minutes after registration opened. I made sure to have all my info in Active.com and had all my credit card info in a text doc so I could just copy and paste.

OK, just finished up IM-LP and I'm just now wrapping my head around the fact that I've got to do it again in late November.  Last five weeks have been a journey for me...crashed my bike on June 18 and broke bones in both hands, had subsequent surgery and screws inserted in both hands on June 22, spent over 25 hours on the trainer just trying to maintain fitness, and then finally being cleared to race one week before LP.  After that IM-AZ will seem like a piece of cake  Taking time off to recover and will start training again August 8.  Hope everyone's training is going well.

Jeff

The wife and I volunteered last year and were first in line to sign up for this year.  This will be her only IM (hip issues) and wanted to make sure she had a realistic shot at finishing (Flatter course, flatter run, etc.) We had a great time volunteering (Finish line catchers).  We even stayed past our shift to see some of the later finishers come through.

Last years swim was particularly cold.  It might have been because they put in some new bladders and the water newer had the chance to warm up through summ - I don't know - I just heard it was really cold.  I checked on line and as of 7/24, the temp in the lake was 87f.  I am not sure what to believe here.  Anyone have any perspective on either why it was so cold last year or seemingly so hot this year and what should we expect on 11/20?

Thanks!

Last year's swim was warmer than the year before. It does tend to cool down quite a bit by November. It's warm now because it's 100-110 every day and only cooling to the 80s at night. It's a safe bet that it's closer to 60 on race day as things cool off. I'm definitely going with a squid lid this time as I shivered through the whole swim in 2009.

Hello!

I was on the website a few minutes before registration opened and started filling out the form right at 11 am PST.  Registration went quickly, the hardest part was hitting the "send" button!  This is my first IM and I'm really excited.

I would say online registration will probably be fine for you.  Good luck!

Last week was very light as I was on vacation, and a needed break. I have been training for this race for exactly 1 year and I'm still excited. Aug starts the build for the next 3 months! Here are my July totals:

Bike: 27hr (493.46 miles)

Looking forward to meeting fellow BT'ers in AZ! Made my hotel reservations yesterday! Happy training.

Finally feel like I'm getting back to a more balanced distribution of swim, bike, run training in July.

Bike50hrs 40min - 805 miles

Run12hrs 45min - 83 miles

Swim9hrs 58min - 32,912 yards

Still trying to get back into form on the run training.  Definitely not doing the miles of a few months ago, but the quality is starting to get there.

Have really taken to OW swimming lately.  The water has been beautiful here in San Diego and logged more than half my swim time in OW this month.

My July was almost pure rest/vacation so totals aren't worth posting...but I have been ramping up the training the last week or so.  Feels good to see that I didn't lose much fitness at all in the month after CdA.

Next up:   Santa Rosa marathon on the 31st.
