New Year’s Eve dinner for 20, New Year’s lunch for 12 and dinner for 7.  The last guests just left.  We are happy but exhausted!  I’ll weight myself tomorrow to check the extent of the damage and begin the challenge.

Good night!

I am exhausted and full from reading this.  I hope you get to relax today.

OMG!!!  I weight myself this morning, and I’m afraid the damage is extensive! Surprised  Nevertheless, and now that I think of it, we don’t feel like cooking today and there are delicious leftovers.  So, even though I’m risking appearing to be a Mexican cliché, I think I’ll start the challenge mañana. LOL

I hope you all have a nice Sunday!  Wink

Happy New Year to everybody!
Back from vacation so I will begin to think about training again.
I just hope I'm fully recovered so I will check with my chiro and then advise.

Have a good sunday everybody!

Just back from a kick butt run. My long run for the week, and longest to date - 7.1 miles @ 9:30 pace. New shoes did well. Took them for a short (2 mi, non logged) run yesterday, and they felt good. The 1/2 marathon plan is coming along nicely. I finished strong (up a steep hill to my house) and felt good when done.

Took my first rest day in over a month today -- my legs are really sore from the running TT and needed the rest.  I just got done laying out all of my stuff for tomorrow's AM swim and have the healthy lunch packed as well.  We'll see how long it lasts...

The rest day will do you well, enjoy it after a very busy December!

As for the daily routine, just do it today, then do it again tomorrow. The tough part is getting into the  groove, but once you do, it may feel odd when you *don't* do it (does for me, anyway. YMMV).

Have a great January!

Enjoy the rest day Curt.  Your body will definitely need it.

Good Monday morning everyone.  1st Monday of the new year, a perfect time to start training, myself included.

I am going to the gym today after work.  I need to start getting into a routine again.  It's hard getting one going, but once your are in to it, it's pretty easy to maintain.

I will work on the challenge spreadsheet today.

Have a good week.

I should have a 5K time to post after tonight's run.

Looking forward to the challenges and to seeing the progress we all make!

Ok.  So I'm on day two of my 20 week oly training run focus plan.  The plan I have shows "minutes" and I have never done minutes as part of the training, everything was base on miles.   So  today the plan said 24 minutes.  I did 28 minutes for 2.54 miles.  Would it be ok to go over the minutes or should I stay to close to what the plan say?

Yesterday we spent most of the day in the terrace enjoying a winter day in the city of eternal spring, as Cuernavaca is known.  We finished off the food and the last bottle of wine.  I weight 66.9Kg  (147.18 lb) which is on the very borderline of “normal” for my 1.64m (5ft 4.57 in).

I’ve read people refer to their “race” weight.  How do you work that out?  My ideal weight according to various tables is 57.5 kg (126.765 lb).  But dieting and training will help me to change my body composition, i.e. increase muscle and lose fat.  Should my goal be the same, or should I aim to lose less weight than that?  Are there tables for athletes you could recommend?

How do I set myself a healthy goal?  Any ideas?

I hope you are all having a nice day!

Are you doing the Oly or HIM Plan?  Your logs look like it has the HIM loaded.

I wouldn't go grossly over the time (say double it), but 5-10 minutes are fine.

So, how exactly are folks doing the run TT on a treadmill? Do you just set the speed to something a little faster than your normal, and have at it? Do you constantly change the speed based on how you are feeling? I'm not normally a treadmill guy, but the ice on the streets early AM has me thinking I may be better served doing some running inside (the cold is no big deal, I just don't want to wipe out on ice & get hurt).

I'm also wondering about pacing since my current plan  calls for a 4.5 mile run tomorrow, so I'm thinking making the first 3.1 a TT, then a slightly slower pace for the remaining 1.4 mi? Sound reasonable?

Sounds like a good plan.

For my TT on the treadmill, I had a time in mind (slightly fatser than my fastest 5K time) and I set the speed accordingly. After I ran a mile, I bumped up the speed a little, I felt I could handle more, so I bumped it up again. However, around the last mile, I bumped it down a little as I was hurting. My advice is start at a faster pace than usual and just keep bumping it up if you think you can go faster, you can always adjust.

x2.  See you don't need me

And yes Mike, do the 3.1 as a TT and then 1.4 at a nice comfortable pace.

I'm telling ya, Mike, Yaktrax pro are great for running in snow and ice. You hardly notice the difference. I started using them and havn't been on the treadmill in couple weeks.

As far as the plans are concerned, you will get frustrated and think you are not doing enough. I go over a little and used to be a mileage guy, but what the plans do for me is allow me to establish goals. I still want to know my mileage after my time, but that is to compare to my previous workouts. I found much easier to follow times than mileage. I also noticed that by going over alot on the time, you burn yourself out more than you think you will. I have been disciplined and more focused by following the plans based on time rather than mileage. Its easier to accomplish the time than it is to accomplish the distance. I still get bothered at spin class because I would like to know what my mileage is for all that hard work and compare to stationary bike on my own. (As you can see I am a data guy.)

I did my TT today.  I wieghed in at 177 (pretty much my norm) and ran the 5k on a tread mill with a 1.5 incline in 27:54.    This is about 4 minutes slower than my personal best which I ran in November.   I got a bit of a cramp during the run and had to slow down to a walk a few times to complete the distance.   Not the showing I was hoping for, but I will do better next time.

Did 1/2 hour this PM on the cycleops.  Going to hold off on starting the training plan -- ordered Carmichael's "The Time Crunched Triathlete" and am going to check it out prior to starting a program.

You blew me away.  I did it in 29:37, and that was one of my fastest 5k times.

Did Day 1 Week 2 of Jorge's Winter plan. Still on a spin bike at my gym and still looking for a trainer. I just might break down and buy a new one. I've been on and off craigslist & other websites for the past couple weeks and have not been able to find a fluid trainer. It might be worth it to just spend the $ and get exactly what I want (I'm thinking Cyclops Fluid 2- lots of people seem to like it & not too $).

A friend of mine has had my bike for the past 2 weeks & has been doing some work on it. Most exciting thing is that he put a new computer on it that tells me my cadence. Just got some new outdoor biking clothes (on sale, online). So I'm ready to ride this weekend.

Marcus- I agree with Josh. Good job on the TT. I got some cramps during my last 5k & didn't finish where I wanted to, so I know this can be disappointing. But the upside is that you will prob have a really good improvement on your next TT

My TT on Saturday was 30:17 on my 15 year old treadmill with a top speed of 7 MPH and slippy belt. I hope to better my time once the snow melts and I can get outside.

Thank you all for the positive support.
It looks like everyone is doing well on their TT and I look forward to see everyone's progress at the end of this month.

I did my first swim session this morning and I feel it went rather well.  It gave me a good idea of where I stand with swimming, which was my goal and best of all I didn't drown.  Wink
Thursday AM I will do my first cycling session tand after that I will complete my training plan and share with everyone.
