Trying to get him ready for a 180 mile, 2 day ride in April. He's sooooooo out of shape even if you can't tell by looking at him. Will be an effort in patience on my part since I tend to push the pace any time I'm out riding. Just an FYI I am competitive to a fault in just about everything I do. There's no such thing as "competative to a fault . . . " |

I see a lot of "I just compete with myself" stuff on this site, which I respect, but to me it's a race and I treat it as such. I still remember the first thing my Dad taught me about sports "Yes it's okay to loose from time to time, but don't ever accept it and it's a heck of a lot more fun to win." |

To me, its all about what your personal goals are. If your goals are to finish, that's fanatastic, my goals happen to be competative. I think they're all good goals, but there's nothing wrong with seeing a race as race (just like there's nothing wring with seeing a race as an expereince). As Shaun tells me, there are lots of flavors of Kool-Aid, drink up. |

Extreme Veteran 585 Price, UT | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group - CLOSED On tap today-warming up from shoveling three homes. Very frigid here. Then 20 min ride on trainer trying to push hard. Start a new painting and go shoot pics of two basketball games (unless they are cancelled due to weather). Maybe take the grandkids to sledding hill if the wind eases up or the wave pool |

Extreme Veteran 585 Price, UT | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group - CLOSED On the competitve note. I am the lady in the race that all the people who are having a bad race look at and say "Hopefully at least I can beat her." I am one of the old and plump ones .But don't let my looks fool you, I will do what I can to beat you. I compete against myself number one, but I dang sure will do what I can to put myself up on the podium if I can. Those that say they are not are more often lying to themselves. I love to push the pace when I can. My pace is just a bit slower now that I have aged and my joints are reminding me about all the past punishment I have inflicted on them over the years. |

My last race I went into the water next to 2 guys. One was about my height and 250+ lbs and one had a very typical swimmers build. Came out of the water with the bigger guy and the smaller guy was well behind us. Even if I tried to compete with just myself I couldn't to be honest. To me the adrenaline rush standing/treading water at the start line is too much and I go all crazy eyed. |

52 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group - CLOSED I am reading all of the posts, but haven't posted in a while.... So.....my primary goal is to figure out this whole pre-race nutrition thing. I have to master what to eat the day, days before races so as not to have major stomach problems I have encountered in the past. This is definitely something within my control..... I definitely want to PR with a 5K and at Hyannis Half, which essentially means trying my best to keep up with Kelly. I do think that I am pushing myself harder on the run, but I need to do the same with the bike. My other goal is to figure out what my next goal will be after Hyannis and to figure out what I'm going to do from a coaching perspective. I don't know whether I want to bridge to a marathon or do another half ironman.... As for this whole weight loss thing, I love to eat. I can out eat my husband any day, and he's a foot taller than me. I would like to be 5 pounds less, but am content where I'm at. However, I do need to start eating better foods, and could probably cut back on quantities....... |
