Funny, I am in the same boat.  I am looking at the QR CD0.1 and feel its way more bike than I need.  On the other hand it will make me happy as its the bike I want.  If I can get one at a good price it will be mine and anyone that thinks it is more bike than I need can eat my speed sensor.

Gary,
I also like the Quintana Roo's actually. I am not sure about getting a tri bike verses a road bike though. This has been the hardest decision for me. I've been reading and researching tons and now I'm just going to ride and see what I like. Who knows what I'll actually end up with- lol. I just know I'm ready to ride.

Good 7.5 miles OUTSIDE today. 12 degrees was not fun, I forgot how thin the air is when it's this cold. Also snowed 6 inches last night so it was a slippery run. Glad I did it though

All I can say is Wow! I am impressed. I won't venture out when it's in the 30's or 40's here-lol. I so could not live up North. 12 degrees and snow to boot. That would be curl up in front the fireplace weather for me. Thank goodness it rarely gets below 40's here- otherwise I'd be as big as a house.
You must be pretty dedicated to run in 12 degrees. Keep up the awesome work!!! You definitely motivated me.

JPF - +1 on the wow!  Way to tough it out.

Got 7 miles in today which is the longest run I have done in a long while.  Tried out my Infinit run mixture and it worked well.  Sat well on the tummy but I only had a small bottle during the run.  I only use Infinit on longer races but I do like to train with it to get used to it.

Go Pack!!! Woohoo, good game with the Bears.  I lived in WI for 10 years so I still am a Packers fan.

Thanks for the info on the Garmin, I don't have any real equipment to measure distance, speed, heartrate for running or bike, I think this is something I might need to look into.  With limited funds it seems like such a big purchase, and I don't want to find that I buy something that does not work for me.

Amazon.com carries these for ~$130-new ... looks to be one of my next purchases

hello all- it continues to be miserable up here in boston- i had a terrible weekend- had to suddenly put my cat to sleep on friday, then my tenants who i love told me they were moving out- then someone hit my car while parked at the grocery store. no note or anything. mix that with -2 temps (windchill -24) and there was no marathon long run and much much wine and pizza.

spin class at lunch today-then sports massage tonight- have to um actually start running- i missed a 15 miler this weekend and i'm coming from only running 5 miles at time a couple times a week during summer so its a big blunder.

Luna - Ouch!! what a weekend!  Sometimes some wine and pizza is needed.  Keep the faith, it will get better soon.  Enjoy the massage.  One thing I have found about the mentor groups is that they provide more than just Tri support.  Its a good place to vent and share in the ups and downs.  Keep on posting, we will be here!

Well today turned into a SRD as all kinds of fun going on.  Last night walked out into my carport to get rained on.  Roofer came by and will be back Thursday to fix and collect his $600+.   I need the rest day just to get the rest of the house ready for visit from my Mother on Friday.  Kids are excited.

2 hr workout this morning was interesting. Haven't done a brick workout in about 4 months so I thought I'd try one (indoors of course) this morning. Biked an hour then got on the treadmill which only last 20 minutes. Lot of work to do. Working a 14 hr day today so tomorrow is a much needed day of rest

Morning all!
How is everyone doing?  Feel better after my rest day and am ready to hit a workout.  Unfortunately I can't swim at lunch today so probably a run tonight.

Question for the group:  Flip turns?  Do you do them or do you want to do them?

Seeing people do them at the pool made me want to learn how and I told myself 'After the 1st of the year I'm going to learn how to do them'. Well here it is on the 26th of the year and I haven't even tried. I read on a few swimming sites that they are easier than they look. I beg to differ. I tried a couple and had to look like what I can only imagine as a drowning rat.

Long answer to your question - no I don't do them - yes I want to do them

i can't do them- but have tried- i'm a horrible swimmer (started this past june for my 1st tri) so when i go to the pool with my swimmy friends and can only do 800m i practice flip turns while they finish up their workouts.

Missed 20 days of training due to nasty flu and bronchitis.  Felt good enough tonight to take the dog for a run/walk.
Now I have to 'try' to resist the urge to make up for the lost 3 weeks in just the next few days.

As for me I tried also and Billy has the scar to prove it Tongue out.  Actually I was getting the hang of it but with limited pool time I just moved on.  I did find a video that showed how to do a turn quickly but was not a flip turn.  I use that now.  I do plan on learning flip turns some day.

Ran tonight with one of my elder dogs.  She used to run with me all the time and 6 miles was nothing to her but she is getting up there and I don't run with her that much.  Got the leash and she was front and center, ready to go.  Just didn't have the heart to tell her no.  So we did a very slow 4 miles.  She was the happiest dog and the tail never stopped wagging.  I do miss running with her as she thought that was the best thing.  My wife has said that she can run but no long distances (DW is a Vet).

Bert - resist or you will end up sick again.  Build slowly and you will be back at it in no time.

1 hr on the trainer and 1500 yards in the pool done.  Roofers are working on my roof and hope they fix it before Saturdays rain.  Tonight is all about cleaning the house as my mom is coming to visit.

1500 that's my dream gary! i did 40 min on the treadmill at work during lunch- i found it waaay harder than running outside- anybody else feel that way? i haven't been on a treadmill in years- maybe it's just lack of experience?

really have to get serious with the running- spin class and stretching aren't gonna get me to the finish- though i'll be in great shape when tri season starts :-)

Morning all!
Swim and a run set up for today but with my mother flying in I am not sure if the run will happen.  Roofers finished so will see if it fixed the issue as there is rain in the forecast.

Luna - When I started I couldn't do 25meters and it has been a long climb for me on the swim.  After 2 years I am finely seeing swim times that would put me MOP.  Keep at it and it won't be long that you look at 1500m as nothing.

Marty! - Keep going, those workout highs are awesome and it only takes a few to get addicted!

For ya all: Any dream race?  Special location, etc

For me I would love to do a 70.3 in Hawaii and IM in northern Calif.  I went to college in Arcata, CA and love the area.  Not even sure if there is an IM distance near there but it would be awesome.  Don't think I will even enter the lottery for the Kona IM.  That heat sounds horrible, New Orleans was hot and humid and I didn't enjoy the run last year.

No, dream races for me. Kona is the only one I've really heard of. I'd like to do the major city tri's around me ie. Kansas City, Minneapolis, Denver, Chicago. Someday.
