How is everyone doing on their June goal?

I missed an entire week, so I will probably be 25% short on all of mine, but I will be happy with what I did get done.

I think I'm doing pretty good. I can really 'feel' myself improving at the moment, especially in swimming, so that can't be bad. Have definitely been putting in more miles running too, although I'm still very slow.

Just got some new runners! Adidas SNova Glide 3's. They felt good on the treadmill in the shop, so fingers crossed. Maybe they will increase my speed :-)

Aside from missing a handful of runs courtesy of a tweaked ankle and a nasty little run-in with plantar fasciitis, I am very pleased with my workouts in June. Adding intervals to my rides and swims has made a huge difference in my speed.

I am very much looking forward to the next two weeks - taper weeks My body is tired!

I actually ran( well jogged and walked) farther than my goal, will be fairly close on biking, but well under half the distance I had wanted to swim this month.   It's  partly because I have not gone over to the nearby outdoor pool like I thought I would, since June in Idaho has turned out to be so cold and rainy.  Swimming is my strongest of the three sports, so I think I will be OK heading into July and closing in on the August race date.  Feeling more fit and confident, liking the smaller jeans, ready to go for it in July!

I did not do well. but back to it this morning.  I will probably run a small 5K on Saturday, should be fun, last year only 42 people ran/walked it.

Well it happened on Sunday.  I got home from my parents house about 12:30 and put the kid down for a nap, ate some lunch and watched some tv.  I went outside about 2:00 and noticed some smoke. Went and played golf and on the way up to the course we noticed a smoke plume in the mountains east of town.  In 2 hours the smoke plume had grown to 40,000 ft and by 7pm they called for voluntary evacuations.  As of yesterday the fire had burned 60,000+acres and was only 2.5 miles from our house with nothing in between but unburned tinder dry forest.

So the training has slipped a day!

We evacuated Sunday night, with the things important to us, and have had our fingers crossed.  It's the Las Conchas fire in Los Alamos.  We lost 25 acres of forest land (no structures) in the mountains, but consider ourselves lucky.  Our neighbors who live there year round escaped with the shirts on their backs and lost everyting.  They didn't have time to get their horses, grab photos, nothing.  11 years ago the Cerro Grande fire burned 48,000 acres in 17 days in the same area, this fire burned 49,000 acres in less than 24 hours.  When we were leaving we could see tree exploding from 70 miles away.  No one has died so thatss good news.  If you've seen it on the news don't worry about the nuclear material it's 100% safe.  The damn media is trying to make a story out of that instead of focusing on the fire, where it's going, and what's threatened.

We're safe so I guess we'll just hope for no wind and some rain soon.  Who knows when we'll get to go home, good thing I like my parents!

oh my goodness, i hope that you are all ok! I will send many good vibes your way and pray that nobody has been hurt. I think that is a very valid reason to miss a day or 2 training :-) I was whining about how muggy and damp it was up here in Victoria yesterday... i think i will shut my mouth now and count myself very lucky indeed!

Really hope your house and everyone you know is ok... keep safe... Kat x

Crazy...  It's that time of year.  Fire hazard has always been an issue here as well.  As well as Colorado...  Scary stuff.  Glad you still have your hours.

Just had a session with a personal trainer the other day and we discussed/focused on a weakness... CORE...

Core work is really inportant, and something most of us overlook.  He insisted that a significant core workout should be performed 3 times a week...

Not everyday, like some say.  The core is just another muscle like any other, and needs a day of recovery if you put them through their paces.

So keep that in mind for performance and overall health...  Core work.

Got back home yesterday from the fire evacuation.  Luckily all homes in Los Alamos were spared thanks to the great work of the many firefighters on the job.  The fire has burned around 125,000 acres (193 sq miles) and is the largest fire ever in NM's history.  We stayed with my parents and got in some great training, now we have to deal with the smoke.  Today trapped in the house, guess I'll hit the bike trainer, may be try and go to the pool.  Back to work tomorrow after 7 day closure.  Next week is a taper before the next sprint tri on Saturday 7/16. Looking forward to it, wife is going to do it as well.

Great news on the home situation...  Glad you can get back in and it's safe.  Good luck on the sprint.

I hope everyone had a safe and fun holiday weekend (for the Americans!).

That's great news that Los Alamos escaped the fire. My group does science there sometimes! Have a great taper week!

Got another work trip thurs-saturday where i'll be staying awake for about 40 hours in a row collecting data... worried i'm gonna miss some crucial training :-/ will have to pack my runners and swimsuit and see what i can fit in i think.

Tonight however, I'm doing a "HotTubMan" with my Tri team... a bike ride, followed by a run, followed by a soak in the hottub with a BBQ and a beer. Now that's my kind of training!

Hottubman, I love it!  I happen to have a hot tub, maybe we'll have to start a series down here.

Pool was closed yesterday due to smoke.   I went for a 20 mile bike at lunch and feel like I've spent the weekend in a smoke filled casino.  Oh well!  I played golf instead of the pool yesterday and got to watch spotter planes and slurry bombers work a section of fire about 1.5 miles away.  Those guys must have perma - grin.  Maybe rains this weekend.  And flash-floods.  Oh  joy.

Have a good weekend everyone.

That's FANTASTIC!  Try and relax.  I think everyone gets nervous for their first, but when you are done, you will realize there was nothing to be nervous about.

Have fun and enjoy yourself!  Good luck.

I finally broke down and bought some Vibram Five Finger shoes.  After one run?  I love them.  If anyone is considering to go with the "barefoot" running style, I highly recommend.

BTW,  how did everyone do on their June goals?  I was hit only half my workouts since I missed a couple weeks.

Goal:  27,500 meters in the pool, 80 miles of running, and 275 miles of riding...

Actual:

June's totals:
Bike:136 Mi
Run:43 Mi
Swim:20013 Yd

I was happy with the amount of swimming I did, but I definitely need to get more run miles in! I've already done a lot more this month though since getting new shoes too (Adidas Supernovas... love them). Biking I feel really comfortable with (I bike almost every day) so i'm not so worried about that. Had a hectic month though with work and illness so overall I'm pretty pleased, especially with the consistency of my workouts, if not the actual mileage.
