I do not have one, but wasn't thinking about buying one for this race. Not sure it will be worth it, or if it might make the swim even hotter. I expect my swim time to be between 1:10-1:14. Not even sure it would give me any additional speed. Thoughts? I personally think that the water is a little hot for one. But, I swam competitively for most of my life and what people think is cold sometimes is a little hot for me.
I agree. The water is warm. No need for a speed suit. |

It was for me, but so many other variables (i.e. current, etc) that could have caused that. |

Elite 3060 N Carolina | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread I wore a speedsuit last year and will do so again this year. I did not feel too warm, but I'm kind of a wimp as far as cold water is concerned. I'll wear it again because I need all the help I can get. |

Elite 3060 N Carolina | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Yes, it will sell out (general entry. Not sure about Foundation slots). Last year, it filled in February, IIRC. Rumor on Slowtwitch is that it is above 80% full at this point. |

LOL Could your swim fitness or better stroke mechanics be the reason for your better time? Or a possible boost from the current last year? I stand behind my theory that the current helped me by approx. 8 minutes in 2011. |

The smooth factor of it and creating a very little friction surface over what could potentially cause a good bit of drag... totally worth it in my eyes. |

Veteran 236 Washington, Georgia | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread "Just swim". I like it! I was 1:14 at IMFL in 2010. I wouldn't expect IMLOU to be any faster, and perhaps even slower given the warm water, and not as much of draft. So 1:10 to 1:15 is all I am hoping for. The reason I asked about the current is at Augusta 70.3, the swim is in the Savannah River. In 2009, the current was super fast. Reportedly 4 mph. In 2010, it was less than 1 mph. I just didn't know if the Ohio had faster currents. Thanks for the insight! |

I attribute the slight gain in speed more to a straight shot (fewer turns and little contact) than to a current; but, it was nice to be a little faster! Good luck to you! |

Veteran 236 Washington, Georgia | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Thanks marathongirl! That is helpful. Seemed like everyone in the world swam IMFL in 2010 between 1:10 and 1:15- at least by the number of athletes in the changing tent. What a nightmare! Not sure if you responded on earlier posts, but did you use a speedsuit at LOU? |

Veteran 125 Grand Rapids | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Looking for some advice in races leading up to IMKY. This will be my first full 140.6 distance race. I am planning on doing IM Muncie 70.3 in July and was looking at TRI INDY on 8/5 either the Sprint or OLY. Is that too close to IMKY to race? My definition of "race" is to compete against myself - I'm a middle of the pack AGer. I'm looking at TRI Indy just because that is my home town and I love the venue, but IMKY is definately my bucket list finish for 2012. I have considered bypassing TRI INDY this year in favor of one of the IMKY training weekends sponsored by the IAMTRI KY group. Suggestions or thoughts would be appreciated. |

If you are racing Muncie that would give a good race as prep for IM Lou. Also, I've said it before (and I would bet many people would agree) that those Iamtri training weekends are VERY beneficial. Good Luck!! Alan |

I don't think this race will sell out for a while but it will sell out eventually. WTC is a great marketing machine, but they also run great races.I'm excited about this one. I've been injured and have just now been starting running again. Base building now. Training begins in 9 weeks. Coming like a freight train! |
