Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() rydergal - 2012-04-11 4:27 PM I did it! Wow that was 500m more then I have ever swam and only 800m short of IM distance! It wasn't fast by any means but I got it done! Definintly a break through for me since swimming is my weakest. Ohhh non-alcoholic beer after hey? interesting! QUESTION- for you all, Do you train with or without music? I always train with music but on races you can't. I have heard mixed thoughts, training without is better so that on race day you don't rely on it....but I think we do so much training for our races that why not pep it up a bit and listen to music especially to get through those tougher training days!!! Comments??? and on that note, any favorite songs out there you listen to while training? I need to re-do my HM play list! I mix it up when I run...usually not by choice since half the time I misplace my ipod and don't want to look for it. Fav running songs this year are Linkin Park, Waiting for the End http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qF_qbaWt3Q and Shake Me Down by Cage the Elephant http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v27TRan1SBI |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Counted up my running miles this week. 28 in the books. About time. Need to get into the pool; missed those last week. Going this evening. Picked up a pair of pull paddles as my new training plan has me doing some of these kind of drills. I already use a pull bouy which does a nice job of simulating my OWS. I rarely kick if I do it is more for balance than propulsion. Have a great training day. |

Last week I could not even run a mile and half without having to walk and feeling horrible. Today, got a 5K in at a 10:48 pace....I know not fast but I was just happy to get it done this week. The run was still a bit of a struggle but its the start of getting back on track. Hopefully the flu symptoms are over and I can move on with training and get back to where I was a few weeks ago. YAAAAY!!! Sportzvision is back. Here's to you getting back on track. That's tough to do, but you will do it. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I got my 22 mile long run in today. 3:11:02. 8:40/mi pace. At that pace, I would have finished a little over 24 miles in under 3:30. This is my target time for upcoming marathon on May 19. I just need to shave :40/mi off the pace on race day. I was able to nail down my taper while on the run today. I have a 25k trail run (16 miles) next Sunday. It's all up and down on a rocky riverbank trail. Hard as He77. The following week, I run a 13.6 miler. Then I have a 12K race the next week. Then I'll run an 11.6 miler 2 weeks out from marathon. I'll probably do an easy 8.5, or 6.2 the weekend before. Then it's race day. This marathon training has been difficult for me because I've also been training for August HIM. By doing both at the same time, It feels like I've sacrificed a little quality for both plans just to keep up on the quantity. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I got in a good solid week of training last week, including my 14-mile long run, 35-mile long bike ride, and my first track practice of the season. Not too shabby, coming off being pretty sick two weeks prior. Total of 8.5 hrs of running & biking (no swimming due to issues with my pool- ugh). This was my "prep" week of half-ironman training, and the first week of Base 1 starts tomorrow, so looks like I'm ready! |

Kevin, you have been so determined and staying on track you are going to kill it! "Watching", sounds a little stalker like, but from reading your post you have been right on task and focused. Your goal is very attainable and you have done the work! Great job! |

Need the bike time much more than the swim right now. Watched Captain America on a Portable DVD while I rode. Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() kevinbe - 2012-04-14 12:31 PM Probably no PR for me on this 1/2. To have a PR it would have to be under 9:00 min/mile pace. TriGuyBri - 2012-04-14 11:53 PM About a 15 mile training run this morning; felt pretty good after. Wonderful tailgate after. Hit the Half-marathon mileage in a time faster than my Jan Half race. Of course I was sick going into that half, but it felt good having a comparison time and knwoing I am further along. Garmin was a bit messed up at the start had to restart it; wasn't counting mileage or pace ( I think it was on bike mode); hate it when that happens!!! Congratulations. If you go better than that time, will your next 1/2 be a pr? Progress feels good for all the time put into training. |

Probably will begin to really taper next week. I think this week is about 23 miles and then down to around 13 - 18 on race week. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Finally broke down and bought swim jammers. The only ones that fit me were black with some pink down the sides...my 4 yr old daughter told me they look girley. I am more concerned about being in public in lycra then the color... Managed to get cycle trainer ride this morning and a swim at lunch. |

They are a Canadian swimming equipment store, the prices are pretty decent too. You can PM me for a special discount code too. If any Canadian peeps want the code just PM me. I have no affiliation with them, but my old team invites "friends and family" to use the team discount code. You guys can be my extended "friends and family". Not sure if they ship to the States...and you guys have your own awesome stuff down there for gear and don't have to pay customs fees! Haha. www.team-aquatic.com/store/index.php |

I have a pair of pink running socks that I always wear on race day now. I'm not sure how that tradition started but they're pretty much essential for having a good raceFinally broke down and bought swim jammers. Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I found my speed again. I got a 6.2 mile run in in 45:52. 7:22/mi pace. I am doing an annual 12K run in may. Last year I ran it in 53 min. I'd like to go under that this year. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I got a great spin class in yesterday. They are doing them based on a triathlon training plan from Dave Scott. I really think they are making me way stronger. Hopefully a bike ride at Lucy and master's after work today if I can keep up the motivation. Two more weeks of no running. Am I crazy to run a 10k two weeks after I'm allowed to run again? I already signed up before I broke my toe. |

I'd wait and base a decision on the race till after you get a run or two in |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ok, my friend ditched out of biking so I didn't go. I did get in 2100 yards while my husband picked up our daughter. I'm swimming about 1:30/ 100 which is a little depressing considering I used a 1:05 training interval in college. Sometimes it's hard not to compare even though my life is completely different now. I guess it's not bad for swimming once a week. This week I'm planning on two sessions.I was looking at results from the sprint tri I'm planning to do in June. A lot of the T2s were under a minute. How do you do that??? |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Got a good tempo run in last night. There were some pretty strong winds, so it was slower than last week's tempo run. Kind of hard to maintain pace against a strong headwind, but my heart rate was in the right range, so I did the work! Today I was supposed to ride after work with some friends but I ended up having to stay late so I missed the time I was supposed to meet them. I just ended up going to yoga and foam rolling. Oy, I must have needed it since my legs complained a lot the second they hit the foam roller. I guess that means I have to do it more often... I have an easy run planned for tomorrow night. If I wake up early enough, I might try to do my missed bike workout in the morning. I left my bike at work, so I could get there early and do my ride before everyone gets there, or maybe I could go mid day. It helps to have a boss who is also a triathlete! |
