Expert 1121 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2013 (Year 3!) - CLOSED Whole 30. Jan 1st. I'm in. I was reading on the plan tonight. No peanut butter ( almond butter seems ok) and no Greek yogurt. Wth. Resolutions: 1. Get back to being physically healthy. Should be just a few more weeks. 2. Whole30 which will clearly mean eating better and eliminating sugar 3. Train better and smarter and realize when to rest. Injuries suck. 4. Focus more on the kids. I actually believe I'm a great dad. But seems there is still never enough time with them. Although, there are some days........well, never mind. 5. Continue to give time and treasure to the charities I volunteer for. |

Karen, giving up beer. I'm impressed!!!! I know how much you love your beer. I'd make that my "curve" in my Whole30 plan, keep the beer!My goals for 2013 - eat clean (whole100) lose 20 lbs get more sleep (stole from Kelly, it's a good one for me) strong IM Tahoe finish (good run, not a complete death march) work/life balance (stop working 60+ hours/week) train smarter (rest when needed, easy days easy, hard days hard, maybe do intervals) do better job staying in touch with my family give up beer, ice cream, candy, crap in general (goes with eating clean but I feel the need to put in writing) |

Master 2151 Johns Creek, Georgia | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2013 (Year 3!) - CLOSED Beer also = bad food decisions unfortunately. If I throw a "curve" in, it would probably be gels during long training sessions or Greek yogurt. I've been reading up on the whole9 site today too. Seems that my almond milk & coconut milk are not really whole. Kind of bummed about that. |

Extreme Veteran 826 Bristow | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2013 (Year 3!) - CLOSED For my goals/resolutions: 1. Be more consistent and focused with my food and weight. 2. Finish my first HIM knowing I trained well and gave my best. 3. Continue to improve in all aspects of Triathlon and life. 4. Balance all of this with life and be a good example for my family. I would love to join you guys on whole30 but I know myself better than that and it is a little too strict for me. Just increasing vegetables, fruits and whole foods has helped me. I will be interested how it goes for you all and will read up on maybe tackling it in the future. |

I want to get that back! Sleep is so tough for me. I not a great sleeper to begin with and when you couple that with crazy work hours and my husband's snoring, it can get really bad. |

This seems like a pretty structred plan to follow, and I could begin to incorporate runs and swims with it. Any thoughts? Thanks. [/QUOTE The only thing I would check on the trainer road program is to make sure that its mostly aerobic rides. You want to do some general bike conditioning before looking to build speed endurance and strength on the bike. |

1. Fix my swimming issues. 2. Tinker with my diet and get back to eating clean all the time. 2a. Get into the 150s 3. Beat Kelly at Texas 70.3 4. Put up a respectable time at IMTX. 5. Continuing inching closer to podiums on a regular basis. For those who are new to the group. Scott and I have a little bet going with regard to the Texas 70.3 in Galveston in April. Based on physical ability Scott should beat me, however, I think I may be able to race just a little bit smarter and see what happens. |

I did a Whole30 for 23 days and I was successful until I went on a roadtrip so I know I can do it. I want to see what it will do for me body composition wise and for training and racing.luv2bhealthy - 2012-12-25 3:49 PM karen26.2 - 2012-12-25 2:26 PM Definitely! I am actually planning on doing a Whole100. On the site there is a Whole100 thread that I am going to participate in. It starts January 1st.Whole30 - Jen, let' do it! But can we wait until the holidays are over? It's just too hard right now. Anyone else in? Is there a difference between Whole 30 and Whole 100? Or just the number of days? I want to join y'all. Is January 2nd the start date? I'm good with January 1. |

Getting up at 4:30 to use the hotel gym before we walk miles in Disney. I might be logging half marathon miles at the park. It is so crowded here its crazy. I'm interested in doing the whole 30/100 on a curve with everyone. I just can't give up my Greek yogurt! I hope everyone had a great day yesterday! Whoever it was (sorry) who got the HIM in training shirt- very cool!! |

Extreme Veteran 3020 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2013 (Year 3!) - CLOSED I'm usually around here more, but with the holidays, I've barely had time to log on to BT. We are traveling next weekend, but after that, things will be back to normal for me, and I will be able to catch up. I felt like a giant slug in the pool this morning. It was a speed workout, and I really couldn't find a rhythm. My Garmin 910 decided to break this morning, too. It will turn on but stays fixed on the screen that says Garmin. My weight keeps going up despite efforts to control it. I decided to visit with the personal trainers at my gym this morning, so I could get a BF # for my new weights. I weigh 8 lbs. more than I did a year ago, but my body fat # is exactly the same - 18.2 I guess that says I gained muscle??? I don't know. I guess I can quit worrying about it. This seems to be a comfy place for me, so I think I need to let go and love my body the way it is right now. Goals for 2013: 1) My first IM 2) Focus more on recovery - keeping rest days easy, going to bed at a decent time, foam roll muscles, and eat enough 3) Love my body the way it is right now and quit chasing some magic number on the scale 4) Learn to quiet my mind. I worry about everything, and I am looking to cope better. 5) Think about others more and worry about myself less. 6) Focus on being patient with myself and my children. Listen more and talk less. Be consistent with training and tracking workouts in the log. 3. Clean up my diet and lose about 15 pounds. I don't know a lot about the Whole30 program. I checked out that website. But I don't really like meat very much, so I'm not sure I'd be left with much to eat. But I like the idea of getting rid of the processed junk and the sugar. Anyone in this group vegetarian or vegan? |

Expert 1121 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2013 (Year 3!) - CLOSED So I'm sort of trying out the Whole30 for the next couple days, to get my mind ready for the real thing next week. I'm not sure what to do about no dairy, brown rice, greek yogurt etc. So far today: Breakfast: 2 Egg Whites, 1 Whole Egg (I need a little flavor), mushrooms, green pepper and 1/2 an avocado. Snack: Banana Lunch: Spinach salad with broccoli, snap peas (i believe that's the only legume you can eat on this plan) and carrots, and small amount of vinagrette dressing, which I think is illegal on the plan. Snack: handful of almonds Dinner: No clue yet, but def some sort of protein. All this does not give me a ton of calories for the day, so I'll need to tweak this as I move along. Anyone have any recipes, tips, suggestions to help with this? |

Master 2151 Johns Creek, Georgia | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2013 (Year 3!) - CLOSED Jeff - food looks good so far. When I attempted it I struggled with being hungry a lot. I added more raw veggies and almonds, cashews, sunflower seed butter with celery. But you really have to look at the nut butter labels to make sure there's no added sugar. Nuts too, even almonds may have junk added to them. I stocked up on raw almonds and walnuts at Trader Joe's. Avocados are good too, filling. (I was still hungry!) |

Regular 84 Calhoun, GA | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2013 (Year 3!) - CLOSED I am thinking about it. I have an autoimmune disease that includes hives. It seems sugar and processed foods tend to make me react more and I have been cutting them out slowly, maybe this will be the final push over the edge that I need. I have checked out the website, but was wondering if there is an actual shopping list I could follow...... It sounds interesting. |

You can always add more oil to puff up your calorie total. The extra fat may help you feel full. I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the no dairy thing, too. I love Greek yogurt (drink almond milk), and I have a hard time believing that it's bad for me to consume it. You know? I see a gatro guy next week, and I'm certain dietary changes are going to happen no matter what. I figured eating fruit, veggies, and protein while eliminating grains was a good place to start. |

Master 2151 Johns Creek, Georgia | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2013 (Year 3!) - CLOSED I just counted the greek yogurt in my fridge - there are 7 containers. I better get moving on them, only 6 days left of 2012. Shopping list - I think I did find one, I'll see if I can pull it up again. I try to make it so difficult, but it really is pretty basic. Look at labels, don't assume just because it sounds healthy that it is. I also have a couple of boxes of ProBars (darn you Kelly!) that I'm going to have to either freeze, or assume I'll start adding them when the 100 days (or perhaps 30?) are up. Lara bars should be ok right? Only a few ingredients, usually just dates and nuts. Not the PB one of course since peanuts are not allowed! |
