Great to have you back Sandi!

Just pay for my flight down and I will come down and "coach" the laziness out of you....with a hockey stick!

Originally posted by Burd Well it's official....I'm lazy. Trying hard to find my lost mojo ever since IMFL. I have got 4 workouts in this week but it was a mental challenge. I haven't been in the water since the race on 11/7. I think I'm going to pull the trigger and sign up for some races early next week. My coach thinks that's a good idea as well. 7/24 with a run this afternoon! It was short - 2 miles but time was decent with a 1 min walk in there but wow, I'm out of running shape.... Wanted to see how it felt on the tailbone that took a heck of an impact on an ice ridge while sledding out in Utah a week and a half ago. It still hurts - hoping it's only bruised. The good thing - I did find some non-icy pavement, right down the center of the road, so that was good! I need 1 of each now s/b/r in the next 2 days... I already get a CLP for not meeting my PT sessions.... Bad patient.

2 miles or 20 miles at least you did it! that is what it is all about kickstarting the year and making good habits. Way easier to get yer butt off the couch if it is only 10-15-20 or whatever minutes then having to go for hours.  We all have our distances/paces/thresholds that make or break us!

Well took yesterday as an off day.....one of my goals for the week was not met....yesterday was lay off day. But my wife is still working and I have people working at another plant and in Corporate to get me back doing something.

Today one of my normal riding buddies is dropping off one of his extra trainers....so the bike is going on today and I get to finally ride MY bike again. I am thankful for the stationary bikes at the gym....but they just aren't the same.

In addition to all of that...today was the first real day of snow in STL. So will probably result in getting a treadmill run in this afternoon as well. But starting next week I have plenty of time on my hands....so it is two workouts a day and I finally get to get back to swimming.

7/24 30 min on the bike on the trainer....stayed at 90+cadence...but mixed up a setting in the rest of the computer so it wasn't giving me speed and distance....but I was back on my bike.

welcome back sandi!

i got in a swim yesterday so my goals look good for the week. Did weights today but had to cut it a little short. My daughter begged to go and run on the treadmill, but 1 mile in she fell and was thrown off the back into a cinder block wall. She is fine, but it scared her. I spent a lot of time holding her. I made her get back on it and walk then jog a little before we left but I think she is done with treadmills for a little while. OH well.

#11--30 minute trainer ride this am

#12--yoga class this pm

Waited all day for the rain to stop so I could go for a run, but alas this afternoon it turned to ice and put paid to my run for today.

Jenn--not going to Egypt won't jeopardize my job. It may actually give me some free time to write up the results of all my other trips for publication. It could be a good thing, but I'm still bummed right now. It is a massive change in plans and I've made a lot of sacrifices to get to take this long trip now.

As for races, there is an Oly not too far from here at the end of May I could be interested in. There is also a local race over Memorial Day weekend that I've always wanted to do, but couldn't because I was always on the other side of the planet.

Hi all, I see I'm about eight pages behind already, but if you're still taking members I'd like to join this group. I'll post my details below and then go do some catching up.

NAME: Matt

STORY: I'm 37 years old, originally from New Jersey, and living in Singapore for the last two years. I never had much of an athletic background, a little bit of football and track until early high school. I was a US Marine and so by default was fit for a while, but really let myself slip after getting into civilian life. I spent the better part of 12 years never doing exercise, smoking a pack a day, and drinking a bunch. I quit smoking in October 2014, and started running in April 2015. I had always been fascinated by triathlon, but ignorantly thought that "Ironman" was synonymous with "triathlon" and therefore out of my reach. When the South East Asia Games came to Singapore in 2015 I read about the Olympic Distance Tri and that led me to learn about all the distances. Once I knew a Sprint existed I knew I could do it. I hadn't biked since I was 12 probably, and though comfortable in the water I never knew a proper stroke. I purchased a used, banged up hybrid bike to see if I liked this tri stuff, and took some tips from swimmers to get some semblance of a stroke, I completed my first Sprint Tri in August 2015 and am hooked.

FAMILY STATUS: Married for 11+ years. Two boys aged 7 and 5.

CURRENT TRAINING: Nothing planned or structured yet until Feb, but trying to do something 4-6 days per week through January, depending on work. Had been out of the pool for way too long so will be aiming at three swims a week for now, and at least one bike.

2015 RACES: 5k in May (first actual race of any kind), 5k and 10k in June, Sprint Tri in August, Sprint Aquathlon in September, Sprint Duathlon November, and finally Half-Marathon in December.

The Plan for 2016: My bigvgoal race is Ironman 70.3 Bintan on August 28th. Before that I have planned a number of races from 10km (Jan) and another Half-Marathon (Apr), to a couple Olympic distance races (May and July).

BEER/WINE/BOOZE PREFERENCE: Beer used to be my one and only alcohol. But at $60 SGD for a 6-pack of good craft beer here, I've had to adjust. When I can afford it I still love either a Stout (Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout) or a good IPA (Dogfish Head 60-minute) depending on mood. But I've recently turned to whisky, especially bourbon. My favorite bourbon right now is Basil Hayden's or Knob Creek. Still getting into the single malts, but Auchentoshan was a gift for Christmas and is quite enjoyable.

WEIGHT LOSS: I am 5'8'' and have always been on the smaller side. So when I found myself up at a high of 185 a couple years ago I knew I had to stop. I got down to about 175 through just better awareness and eating habits, and then last year when I really started exercising i got down to 154. That is where I'm at now, and am happy but know I can still go down a bit, and likely will with the block of training I have planned for 2016.

WHAT WILL MAKE ME A GOOD BDAS MEMBER: I know my booze and am quickly learning my Tri.

welcome sarah and matt

Gretchen- sorry to hear about egypt. I would say not running on ice is a wise decision. Nothing like starting the season with a broken leg.

Sarah- if you are trail running you'll be fine at road running. I did one trail run last year (by accident) and it nearly killed me

Matt- you have good taste in bourbon. You also have plenty of time to get up to the 70.3.

I'm going to hop on the trainer for a brick in a min. that should bring me up to 8/24. (got in a bike, swim and lift maybe 7.5 since the lift was a little light).

Hahahaha great pic Scott!

Welcome Sarah and Matt! Dave -our mentor- will officially welcome you, great to have you in our group. I lived a whole year in Wash State, and been to Singapore twice last year for lectures, hope to meet you some day!

Gretchen, I had a beautiful 7km run today under heavy rain (6/24) - alone, just the sound of rain and the trees, back totally soaked but very happy. Let me know next time is raining again, let´s run together.

I'll second Scott that if you have the fitness to handle the trails, the road shouldn't be a problem. On the other hand, for me trails are infinitely more interesting than the road, so it be mentally more challenging.

Hey kids,

I just finished up my first full week of "back into tri training" No swimming yet, unless you count going to the Aquatic Centre and looking at the pool, and buying some new goggles. I start swimming tomorrow.

So far I managed to squeeze in 32km of running, longest was almost 13km, shortest was a 3.5km "speed" test. What speed I have left. It's almost depressing how slow I have gotten since running technical trails only.

I had planned to ride on the bike trainer 3 times this week, but only managed 2 for a total of 40km. Biking feels good.

I also managed to squeeze in some easy strength training, and my daily 45min hikes with the dogs.

Today is reward day, there will be a nice big glass of Merlot waiting for me on the dinner table.

Hope everyone else is having a good week.

Cheers from The Great White North

Hey Alex -

I don't know if we talked about this but I experienced a post IM case of the blahs as well. It took me almost 6 months before I found my mojo. 3 things helped. You're already onto the first one - signing up for some races will give you something to focus on. The second thing is to acknolwedge that what you are going through is totally normal and natural. And finally, try to connect with people that possess the passion you want to recapture. In other words - go out for workouts with your tri buddies, drink a Monsen like Thor, and check into the BDAS every now and then.

Good luck Nancy Boy!
