Yes. Catch, catch up.... You can find videos of these drills on You Tube.

I love this drill!!! I like to do it after my sets when I'm good and tired. IMO (and I'm certainly not any good at swimming! LOL) doing this tired really helps you get a feel for good balance in the water besides the benefit of getting the feel for gliding on your lead hand.

Trina, what about the Redman Halfmax Triathlon in Oklahoma City?  Hows the weather in Oklahoma at the end of September?

All right, just added the Naperville Sprint Tri to my race listing.  Will officially register tomorrow or the next day.  Brian -- you're going to have to tow my aXX through the swim if I don't get it figured out in the next ten days!!!!  Kidding aside, really looking forward to it.  A couple of days to reflect have me in much better spirts -- recounting the conversations with the life guards where I was using language that was totally inappropriate, contemplating death and drowning, and wondering what kind of a dumb SOB I was for thinking I could do this have provided quite some comic relief.  Had my co-workers in stitches as I described the ordeal of the swim.  Have to laugh at yourself as life's too short to do otherwise.

Was back in the pool this PM working on the drills that you all recommended.  Just focusing on form and technique.  Realized in so doing that there's some major opportunities available here.  Good news is that in working through the drills, realized that I don't float too bad / too far below the surface on my stomach -- revalation, relax and do a simple pull to the surface and you won't drown.  DUH.

Anyways, big thanks again for all of the words of encouragement.  It's really help and is greatly appreciated.

So the run group I am a part of was asked to provide pacers for the Morgan Hill Marathon and Half-Marathon. It's the first year for this race, and judging from their online campaign, they really have their act together.

It's a week after my first marathon, so I volunteered to pace the half mary at 1:50 or slower. We'll see which group I end up with - this could be really cool!

Oh, ran 10 miles tonight...marathon training is in full effect.

Judging which group to pace is tricky.   For the pace bunny job, it is usually recommended to do 20 minutes slower than your PB or usual time.  Being a pace bunny is difficult, & the folks you pace are often critical!!!  Don't get them over the line a minute slower or faster!!!

I really can't run outside my pace too much. There is a tight range. Even when I run with my wife I need to go my own pace and wait for her when I get too far ahead. If I don't, it seems my stride just beats on my knees. I've had more pain after slow runs than fast runs for sure.

When is the event?  Depending on my schedule, I might be interested in the HM.

Agreed!

The only way I can effectively pace is with GPS.  I haven't really took note, but do these pacers use GPS or are they that familar with the course to do it without?

Alternating paces is difficult, but good training at the same time.  I used to have the same problem when running with my wife.  But I soon learned the difficulty came from my ignorance of proper running mechanics.  Next time you run with her, try keeping your normal cadence, but shorten your stride making sure each foot strike lands under your hips.

This is also a good time to work on running drills!

Yes!  In my short exposure to swimming, sinking is usually the result of struggling to propel yourself in the water.  The more you remain relaxed, it will be easier for you to remain more streamlined (body in-line from head to feet).

It sounds like you got the feeling last night.  Good job.  In an effort to reinforce this feeling, I would recommend using the pull buoy with some of the drills.  This will allow you to focus on balancing without worrying about your legs sinking.

Also, as you do these drills, don't worry about speed.  Give yourself adequate rest between drills too, roughly 30".  Take your time!  The importance here is form.

So you and Brian will meet up at Naperville?  Nice....

It's November 7th - you should come!

I'll definitely be scouting the course before the race with the other pacers. I have a Garmin 305 so holding a pace should be pretty easy as long at the course isn't long/short. There's a virtual partner feature I've never used but would be perfect for pacing. It shows two dudes running, one is you, the other is the dude running at a perfect pace you tell it to. It then tells you how many feet you are ahead/behind the pacer. Ssssslick!

I'm literally bouncing in my chair right now to Incubus' "Anna Molly". It got me thinking that it would be a killer song to workout to.

Soooo, QOTD: Do you have any favorite bands/albums/songs to workout to?

Incubus and Jimmy Eat World are favorites of mine. Sometimes I like to go ghetto with Tupac.

I used to listen to that song when doing heavy squats or deads.  Always pumped me up.    I try to limit my ipod use to the dreadmill but I like listening to podcasts mostly.  Keeps me occupado more than just music.

Similar to Jay, I like to listen to podcasts.  Music-wise, I can listen to anything but country while working out.  Before races, I like to play soft stuff like coffeehouse genre to keep my nerves in control!

QOTD:  I tend to keep the mp3 mix pretty upbeat for while running (really the only time I use my mp3 player).  Nothing real specific, just a mix of 80's hair bands, soft core rap, 70's metal and some newish pop sorta crap.  Lately I've been running more with no headphones, and occasionally run while listening to a baseball game.

Well, since I'm kind of a sissy, I currently run a standard 53/39 for my chain rings.  For a cassette, I primarily use a 11-25.  My little, chicken legs just can't push a 54-55/42 TT set up.

For the Silverman, I probably will change my cassette over to a 11-28.  I've never riden compact cranks, nor do I think I would need them for this course.
