Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Got 35 mile ride in today, that has been a goal for awhile and finally hit it. Did run 1/2 mile afterwards (granted a 4 minute break) as daughter wanted to run. No cramping issues today. As for the flying dismount and the toe, hasn't been an issue so far. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Bryan, another finish line in the books: I think this is the most "hardcore" thing I've ever done...ride my bike to the race, race it, and ride my bike home... I know it was only 5 miles to bike to the race, but it's still hardcore in my opinion - and in the opinion of another runner at the race ![]() I woke up on-time, but couldn't get my butt in gear, so I didn't have too much time... I grabbed an instant oatmeal, and ate about half of it, and got out the door on my bike with my running shoes in my back pack... I rode the 5 miles, but had to wait at some pretty long traffic signals... got to the race with about 10 minutes to spare... changed shoes, and it was time to line up... Last time I ran this course my goal was 22, and I finished in 22:07... my goal is still sub-22... can I do it today? There was a 4 mile & 2 mile race, so the 4 milers lined up about 20' behind us 2 milers, so I stayed WAY to the right at the Gun so the fast 4 milers could pass... The 1st mile was ALL uphill... it seemed to take FOREVER... but to my delight, I finished the mile in 11:14, at that point, I knew a PR was possible! I started running down the hill for the 2nd mile, and this lady comes right up to me and sticks with me for a LONG time... I slowed, she slowed, I went faster, she went faster... til about quarter mile left, she got a cramp and walked... I said "Oh NOOOOO" ... about 5 seconds later, she whipped past me, and beat me to the finish by about 5 seconds... it was OK, I got my PR!!! Crossed the line at 21:50 Good enough for 1st place in my AG (out of 1) Edited by Cardholic 2009-08-22 4:16 PM |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() B-man: watched the SA little leaguers game yesterday against KY. Not sure if you noticed the last batter for KY - announced as 5'7" and 219 lbs!! Then, on the Canadian team there is a kid announced as 4' 11" and 70 lbs. OMG, what a difference. Canadian kids lost a heartbreaker in Game 1 to Mexico in 11 innings then got thrashed by Taiwan yesterday. Years ago my youngest bro was on a very good little league team. They lost in the finals at the Canadian championships two years in a row to the same team so never got to Williamsport DD had her final horseshow of the summer on Saturday. She did well on a day when her horse was being a real handful. He mistook the show ring for Churchill Downs I think and decided to race through the course in almost every class that Steph entered. Not good. On the upside, they came 2nd in the barrel racing event when of course speed matters. Happy to report that Hurrican Bill took a wide berth around our region and so we felt almost none of the predicted effects. Mav - did you have any impact from it in MA? FBP |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() FBP - my SA boys are up 4-1 right now. I know the assistant coach of the team. They are going nuts - of course....so is the whole town. These kids are heroes. They are on the news every night. They got a pone call the other night from Shaquille O'Neal before their game.....Shaq grew up here in SA and he knows the head coach and his kids. So before the game they are in front of their dugout talking to Shaq on an iPhone and then went out and won the game. Lee said they couldn't calm down the first few innings - all they could say was....we talked to Shaq. This will be a tough game tonight and if they win, the next games on Friday and then it would be the finals over the weekend.....keeping my fingers crossed..... By the way, there is a kid on California's team that is 6'2", 214. WOW!!! sTRIve |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I watched Shaq's show the other night where he challenged Ben Roethlisberger to a game of football. The guy is a real showman!!Canadian little leaguers won a crazy game against the team from Germany (who are all 'mericans from Ramstein air force base). They were up 12-4 then down 13-12 and finally won 14-13.Connected with a chap by email who was looking for someone to do some running/riding with. Turned out he is a neighbor. Did a 45 minute ride together last night - good fun. He has done 3 IM's - all about 5 to 7 years ago so hopefully I can learn from him as time goes along.Have a great day y'all. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Not sure what we have done to bring on such wrath but there is another Hurricane (Dan) expected to pass our way this weekend. Come on people, this ain't Florida. Two 'canes in two weeks???? Hopefully it will turn out to be as benign as Hurricane Bill was last weekend!! |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() FBP - sorry but after Katrina, Rita, and Gustav all I could think was better you than me! Sorry! 16 days until my last Tri of the season. 1/2 mile swim today to see what my estimated time was. Avg 2:33/100m. To help make it somewhat realistic I didn't do flip turns (can't do them anyhow) and limited my pushing off the wall (to also help prevent cramping). Finished in 20:25. Really hoping I can beat that in the Tri. Would put me towards the backside of the MOP group. I think I have my swim leg cramps almost beat. Routine is: Morning of Swim - banana with breakfast Hour before swim - banana Drive to gym - 1 endurolyte capsule Gatorade before and during swim Did some bike speedwork last night. Really burns the legs but fun, hate riding at night. Just won an ebay auction for a CycleOps fluid 2 trainer. Hoping to have by next week. Slowly ramping up my running miles for my 1/2 mary in Nov. Only running 2-3 times a week and think I will keep to that. I need to get some Cytomax sports drink. That is the official drink of the RnR and want to get used to that. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Gary, I can't believe your Tri season is almost over, and mine hasn't even started... I still haven't paid the money for one... I'm paranoid... I'm getting peer pressure to do the one in town on Sept. 12... at least I'd get 1 done before your season is over ![]() |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My San Antonio Little League team got beat tonight by a wildly powerful California team. They set a new LLWS HR record with another game left to play. They will play tomorrow for third place (this is NOT the game they wanted to play). |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My friend, Ray Baker, is an IRONMAN!!! He finished IMLou in 14:48. He executed his race plan spectacularly. He is also a manager for our firm and we have been virtual training partners for the past two years. We have done our first half marathon, oly tri, HIM, and full marathon together.....and now he is an Ironman....I have to wait about 82 days and 11 hours....but who's counting???? ME that's who....... you all can't bail on me this year....I need you for the next 83 days.... sTRIve |

![]() | ![]() Here for ya Bryan!!!!!! I watched some of the IM feed...what I could get yesterday. I have a friend who did IMCanada, and had a rough day. Hot and smoky from fires...ugh! CONGRATS to anyone who finishes an IM!!!! How are those long bikes going???? I really dont know how you can go that long in such hot temps. Its finally starting to cool a little here, thanks to hurricanes the last 2 weekends. I raced yesterday!!!! Had a last minute opportunity to be a relay biker in an oly and jumped at the chance. Just started to train on my bike last week which was VERY scary the first day. SO with 5 days of training under my belt...I went and did it. I had a PR on the bike with a 19.2 mph avg for 24.9 miles!!! ANd WE WON FIRST PLACE FOR THE WOMEN RELAY TEAM. Ive never won first at anything!!!! I was SO psyched. I guess I didnt loose to much fitness in my 6 weeks of jaw rehab. LOL Today was my first day back at work. You really dont realize how much you miss it until you are gone for a while. So add another finish line Bryan....yours is coming soon enough!!!! |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Mav - finish line updated.....the bikes are hot hot hot....did 70 miles a couple of weeks ago and it was nasty hot by the time we finished. I rode with a group from Lifetime Fitness but I rode alone....it was a long 35 miles back in the heat - alone - not wanting to be in the aero bars that long....mind games people, it's all mind games. Hopefully it breaks soon. This week has been - swim (1hr) run (1 hr) on Monday - run included 1/2 mile intervals, Tuesday was swim (1 hr) run (30 min), Wed was 60 minute ride with two 15 minute intervals hard and then 30 minute run with 3x3min hard effort runs - tomorrow is long run day, fri is a swim, Sat is long bike/run, Sun is another bike.....for three bikes, three swims and five....yeah five runs... 11 and a half weeks to go......... sTRIve |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() LRR = Training Beast!! Mav - congrats on the 1st place, that is awesome Diane - any decision on the race? Got my Cycleops Fluid 2 (from ebay) but no skewer and I found out the hard way my skewer is not compatible. No trainer for a couple of days which, with everything going on, it throws a monkey wrench in my training plan. Ran 6 miles on Tuesday and will need to start ramping up my 1/2 mary training after the 13th. Probably just going to plan my longest run being 11 miles and will be good enough. Continuing on the swimming good news I managed several 150 meter swims cruising along at a 2:00/100m pace (which is blazing for me). Needless to say my 4th and 5th sets were not quite as fast. Kept reading about folks not bending their wrist after their hand entered the water. Combining this with the comments from my swim coach and it seems to help. That and putting my head down farther and extending my neck. I really want to get a video of my swimming for review. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Mav, WOW... not only did you get back on the bike, but you came in 1st on your first race back - that's AWESOME!!! Bryan, I'm still here... just not much to add to the conversation lately... WTG on your training, you're a machine!!! Gary, I put the race on my calendar, and on my sig line on RW, but still haven't paid for it... so, the decision is half made ![]() |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thanks for the support....not really a machine or an animal....I am a chicken...scared of Nov 22....just like our first triathlons ever, I am scared of missing one training session. But I am taking Sunday off as I am doing an oly on Monday. Diane - write the check girl....we are running out of time to add to that finish line total.... Mav - how was it being back at work???? Why didn't they want you working during recovery? FBP - how's the weather....getting cold yet? sTRIve |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Bryan, I don't need to hear that you need the finish line, I need to hear that I'm ready, that I can do this, that I'm not gonna die... LOL...yep, I'm as afraid of my Sprint as you are of the IM... Edited by Cardholic 2009-09-04 8:15 AM |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Diane - I have looked at your training log, you are ready. Practice transitions once or twice (if you haven't already) and you will rock your first tri! |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Diane - I would have never said to write the check if I didn't think you were ready....you have been ready for some time....NOW THAT YOU HAVE DONE THE HARD PART.....relax....yes....relax....repeat after me....I am ready, I am ready, I am ready. I wish I could be there to cheer you on.....go Diane go.....can't wait for the race report.... |
![]() ![]() |
Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() By the way Diane - YOU ARE NOT GOING TO DIE |
![]() ![]() |
Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Diane - I also looked at your log. You are ready. Now it is about execution. And not freaking out this week and doing like 200 miles of bike and 60 run with 7 days of swimming. You want to go into the race rested. You want to take a couple of days of rest before the tri. Assuming it is the one on Saturday - take off Thursday and Friday. Go into it with this in mind - I am going to relax and try to control my heart rate on the swim, go smooth (notice I didn't say fast) in transition (practice like Gary said). Then ride the bike within yourself - you may be passed but this is YOUR deal. Roll smoothly again during T2 - be sure to take a moment and drink something - then go out and do whatever you can on the run....start conservatively and finish strong. Smile for your finish photo. Revel in the moment. Plan your next tri. If you have any questions - fire away. |
