Her birthday is on Saturday. She asked her dad for a purple helmet to match her bike. He said he'd get it for her, but we'll see. I'm usually the birthday shopper so I may have to kick him out the door to go get her one. My favorite bike EVER in my LIFE was a purple bike with sparkly seat that I had when I was about 7 years old. It had a headlight with a generator and purple and sliver streamers on the handlebars and I would put cards in the spokes and I WENT FAST!!!!! I bet you were FAST!!! This was a hand-me down from a cousin. I had to take it apart and clean it up a bit. It sat outside for awhile. I was able to get the seat white again but not the handle grips so I replaced them for her. My daughter loves it! SHE GOES FAST TOO!!! Edited by ironannekidd 2010-06-29 12:05 PM |

I've randomly decided that it will be my public health mission to get people to wear helmets while riding bicycles...Yes...Thats right. Wear helmets!!! WOOOHOOO!!!! (One of) My absolute pet peeve(s). There is the racer dude (or dudette) all geared up to the max, riding without a helmet. Azzes! Or better yet... the parents who have their kids with helmets but they don't have one. Bet it would be a special day for the kid to witness the parent getting a fatal closed head injury.. ((stepping off my soap box now))) When my kids ride with me, or are riding up and down the road and around the driveway when I'm outside I make them wear helmets. It's actually a law in PA that under the age of 12 a helmet is mandatory. My husband does not make them wear helmets, and neither do his family members which my kids spend a lot of time with. I am trying to teach my kids to make the decision for themselves to wear them, and why, so they will wear them when I'm not around. In Edmonton its under 18. Do they actually police that? Probably not. I've never heard of anyone getting a ticket or their parents getting a ticket because their kid wasn't wearing a helmet. Sometimes I give them the look..."its my, you should be wearing a helmet look"...haha... I had a little girl and her mom in that I had to get a history off of last year. The little girl and I had a discussion about her wearing her helmet. Haha. She liked her helmet, it was pink! After losing a friend in high school to a bicycle accident, back when helmets were not mandatory for a child (or adult), I have worn a helmet ever since and make my kids wear them. If my kids friends rode with us, they too needed to have a helmet on. I'd rather look like a dork/nerd/goody two shoes, than take the chance. I shared my story about my friend with all of them and none of them give me an argument. Of course, I can only hope they continue to wear them when I'm not around. |

With all of the road construction going on around here I had to take the interstate because we were running late. My husband was behind me on his bike. At one section where it narrows down to one lane I got cut-off by an ambulance. It didn't have lights or sirens on, it was just going back to where it came from. My husband said there was a car behind the ambulance that tried to come around, too. He said he thought the car was going to take me out. I saw the ambulance, never saw the car. I was paying attention to the road, it was pretty torn up. I was ready for the ambulance, I may have been in trouble with the car. I try to stay off of the interstate at all costs. Be safe on your motorcycle!!! We don't have to wear helmets in PA. I DO!!! Helmet, jacket, gloves, long pants, boots! |

Back roads are the roads for me. My hubby grew up in CA where you did not have to wear a helmet, but he did and has always insisted that we are dressed for protection. When we ride with others, they all have to wait for us to suit up, but you know what? I don't care. Let them wait. I want as much protection as I can possibly get. Thus, when it is the dead of summer, I'm really not on my motorcycle much, because it is too hot. Keep staying safe. |

They're pretty dry where she is and the temps have been HOT HOT HOT! nothing worse then high heat/no rain. my solution if the rain holds out is to turn off the hot tub.....drive to the nearest store and buy all the ice they are selling...bring it home and dump in the hot tub for a nice cool ice plunge! all serious-ness - Robin.....hope you get your rain...and it cools down for ya! |
