Went for a 29 mile ride today, and I was almost the road kill.

Ran in to some unexpected 4th of July Parade traffic and I think this guy in a truck was in a hurry once the traffic cleared a little, you can see in the video how little room he gave me.

Fun ride though. The Bosque area (where I typically ride along the river) is all shut down due to fire dangers across the state, so I couldn't cross the river without a big detour.

I watched the video-all the traffic you were riding through looked pretty tight to me-sometimes I am glad I live out here in the boonies of Utah

Good morning, everyone!  It sounds like you all had a productive, fun weekend.

I was up early for a run this morning - a couple miles at tempo effort.  I was supposed to swim later, but my babysitter called in sick, so I don't know if the pool is going to happen today.  I might have to replace the swim with a spin.  Grrr.

I've been a complete pig lately and I've put on a couple lbs.  I'd better get it together and quit picking at everything.  LOL

Hour plus on the trainer and I switched out my half hour swim workout for some yoga.  Been feeling really tight through the hips and glutes as of late.  I don't want to see the ITBS rear it's ugly head again.

Jen, I hear you on that!! My diet has been really great for a while, with just a couple minor slips (darn oreos), but this weekend I had three parties to attend, and I just couldn't keep away from all the goodies, and greasy burgers.  Felt good oing down, but now I feel like a zombie.  This is my last volume week, then a rest week next week, which is also vacation in Cape Cod.  I'll need to behave!

Does anyone know how I contact support?  I can't log my workouts.  Bah.

I decided to sign up for the Columbus Marathon on Oct. 16.  Better get training for that.  LOL  I used Hal Higdon's half marathon plan last spring, and it worked OK. I'm thinking of using his Novice 2 program for the marathon.  Any opinions?

I'm having the same issue this morning.  Was going to give it a day to see if it's just a glitch.

I know people who have used Higdon's half, but never heard anything about the full plans.

Can some of the women tell me their favorite tri shorts and tops? I just spent the last 30 minutes looking back through these pages and our first thread, but can't find the info, even though I know its been discussed. Looking at zoot tri shorts - are 8 inches too long? And do the tri tops run short? Should I order up a size?

Thanks!

Well hello everyone!! sorry I have been a little MIA over the weekend. Basically i had a car accident on Thursday night on my way home to pick up my daughter from daycare. I am fine but my car is in pretty bad shape. Basically a box truck that was turning left decided it did not want to and pulled into my lane and sideswiped me, and as i hit the brakes, he hit the gas and pretty much tore the left front of my car off and forward. So for the past 4 days i have been car-less. Typical family stuff over the weekend, pool club with friends, beach, 4 hour ride on Sat and i rode my bike into work today, about 37 miles. Thats pretty much it, looks like everyone here has been going full bore and doing some great work!!

The Zoot shorts are the best.  No, the 8 inches aren't too long.  They fit like a glove.  I haven't found a top that I love - wore an Orca for my last race, and it was a little big.  The Zoot top I have is ok, too, but it rides up in the front (after having 4 kids...um, no, not for me ).  I also have TYR & Sugoi - both highlight the muffintop, and I'm not a fan of that at all.  Still searching for a keeper......

I'll be wearing a 1 piece 2xu for my next race.  It works well in the water......fits like a glove.  Hopefully I won't need to make any poop stops during the race, because that would be a pain.

women are not the only ones with the midsection issue, i am of Irish/German heritage, the only six pack i have is the one sitting in the fridge, lol. I carry my weight in my middle and found the only solution is a one piece, other than that, they ride up and my tummy is exposed. Even when i weighed 135lbs in HS, i still had a pot belly, freaking genetics suck, big legs, big gut, my poor daughter is going to hate me in 15 years, LOL!!!

I have not found any I like. I am a short women with a round back side and a bit extra around the middle. So far evey tri short I have tried in a women's has felt too low in the rise and I feel a bit of plummers butt. I have tried Zoot , Pearl Izumi and Louis Garneau.  I bought some from Aevero that I absolutley love, but of course they are no longer making tri shorts. I think I will try some mens as they seem to have a longer rise. About 200 worth of tri shorts that I hate the fit of.

Wow Rudy, glad you're ok.

I have not found a top that I love.  Every one I try is very short on me.  Orca was the longest, but still not as long as I would like.  For my IM I wore a sports top and put on a fitted tri tank in T1.  That's been my favorite so far.  Of course, if I was super skinny I'd be ok with a little skin showing, but I'm not, so...

I couldn't log anything this morning but it seems to be back working.

I've been really bad about eating lately too.  Ben & Jerry's should be outlawed.  They have a couple of new flavors, why do they do that?????

Bonaroo Buzz & Clusterfluff - both are so good.  I must stop!!!

I have two tank tops from road runner sports that seen to work. They are lycra/ nylon and hug the body but are long enough to stay over my shorts. They come with a built in bra, but I cut that out and they fit like a long sports bra/tank.

I have the DeSoto 4 Pocket Tri/Compression shorts size Medium, and initially thought they were too tight in the legs, perfect for the waist (size 32 waist).  I actually don't like wearing my Pearl biking shorts anymore.  Even on the longer rides, the Tri shorts just feel way too good.

I just ordered my first Tri Top.  Zoot Mesh Tri Top.  I tried one on in the store first.  They all seem to be short.  I'll let you know how it goes when it arrives with the new wetsuit.

Too bad my wetsuit won't be here until Monday.  I leave for Cape Cod on Saturday!!  Ughhhhh.  Would have liked to try it out for OWS.

So just finished Dean ???, Ultramarathon Man's 50/50 book yesterday.  Totally amazing that he keeps his HR at a 110 average in a marathon - WOW.  That's walking for me!!!  It was a great book and I found alot of great advice.  Totally recommend.

Question:  I keep reading about salt and sodium. Same thing right - I guess not totally.  Well Dean's book says to eat sodium/salt the day before a race, but everything else I have read says to stay away from sodium/salt?

Question:  Also, you hear constantly to keep hydrated before races.  I guess I get confused because you drink so much water the day or two or three before a race or long run and all you are doing is peeing it out.  Are you drinking so much to cleanse the body as much as possible (any hydrate) so the muscles perform at their best without any crap in them?

Sodium is the number one electrolyte lost by endurance athletes while racing.  Probably why he recommends it.  Staying away from sodium is great for the average Joe, but for active individuals it should fall well down the list of your dietary concerns.

Hydration is hard.  It's very dangerous to show up to a race under hydrated because it's hard to impossible to catch up once started.  People who show up prepared are generally hydrated to over hydrated at the start and need to worry about intra activity hydration and not falling behind the eight ball IMO.

Just my $.02
