Scout7 - 2006-12-26 11:13 AM   At this point, I'm thinking we should start some sort of holiday Ironman competition....

Such as?  Would we get to log time with IL's and drinking without telling someone they are stupid?

OK...not working on my own computer so sorry for the blank post....

Morning ya'll!  Yes, I want the entire JG package but at 5' 2" it's not going to happen.

I survived a night at my mother-in-laws...mostly due the amount of wine consumed.

Nah, because I don't get to drink with the in-laws.  Of course, that CAN add to the difficulty of the task.

I agree.  Any event with the IL that has to be conducted sober should automatically up the level of difficulty.

And we should get points for every time we DON'T roll our eyes...but really REALLY want to.

Can I get points for not telling my brother-in-law to SHUT HIS PIE HOLE??....like I did last year.

(wife, mother in law, and sister in law were all glad I did it.)

I will say this much.....Time with IL's has improved my ability to create stories, fudge the truth, and maintain a straight face.

I agree If and ONLY If the lack of drinking is some sort of mandatory rule i.e. there is no alchohol allowed in the house due to medical or theological reasons.

If you aren't drinking because you don't think you can handle yourself around said IL's with a buzz going then you are just a sissy and should be penalized or maybe even DQ'd

My lack of drinking is due to the fact that there is no alcohol.  Period.  MIL doesn't allow it.

LOL!! Agreed.  I didn't drink much at Thanksgiving because I was irritated and knew that I would say EXACTLY what I was thinking.

That's how it is with my sister and brother-in-law. Not even dinner wine. They are very cool people to hang with so it's never been a big issue. Except the one year we decided to mix my family with David's. We haven't done that since.

Oh, our families don't mix either.  And unfortunately, my MIL isn't exactly what I'd call cool to hang with.  Unless you like dishing dirt on everyone else, or hearing about the divorce.

I am thinking that I would have to go cafine free as well then.  I wouldn't want to be too awake or otherwise excited if I was going to have to try to keep my mouth shut and behave.

Perhaps I would take a loong run just prior to the get together and then just fall asleep in the corner.

I tried the sleep route a couple times.  Having a (now) 9 y.o. girl running around the house looking for presents doesn't make for optimal sleeping conditions.  Or clothes-changing conditions, either.  Of course, I have also told her (at age 7) that she needed to get a job, and that the things in life worth getting were worth working for.

Come on..you can sleep anywhere!  Just get a sound bite from the inside of a Hummer and put it on repeat on your IPOD type device.  The 9YO could be poking your eyes out then and you'd sleep right through it.

After last year I suggested to my MIL that she make this Christmas alcohol free.  Let's see if that happens.  I'm guessing not and there will be some bleary eyed men with ticked off wives.

I need to drive so I will be and always am sober at family functions as I KNOW from my college and single days how my mind and mouth works under the direction of alcohol... Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.....gutter slide to the sewer.

Yeah, wide awake AND sober = not a good mix.  But I can't sleep at other people's houses.

Then fake a good illness like a stroke, head cold, compound fracture, etc. and go wacked on whatever "ask Jim" is prescribing these days.

Jim has not woken up from his Vicodin/MyQuil nap.

And how do you fake a compound fracture?

Did everyone get what they wanted for Christmas?!  (I did because I bought most of it...)  But I was surprised with Super Cute tri-socks.  (Wearing some right now!)

My favorite present was my BOSU trainer.  Although I had to have David return it this morning because there was no stopper to keep the air in once it's inflated.
