Pro 4174 Keller, Texas | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas Thumpr10 - 2011-05-12 11:34 AM dodgersmom - 2011-05-12 8:09 AM This is one of the best thins I have read! Don't eat the paste. Ironman in general, but especially the bike leg, is at best a special ed class: you only have to show up with your C game to be at the head of the class. If you find yourself doing the opposite of everyone else, you're doing the right thing. If Jimmy and everyone else is in the corner eating the paste, don't join them! Sit down, do what we're telling you, and don't eat the paste! Lots of people passing you in the first 40 miles? That's good, don't eat the paste. Going backwards through the field on a hill? That's good, don't eat the paste. Think you made the mistake of riding too easy? You now have 26 miles to fix that mistake. Make the mistake of riding too hard? That mistake now has 26 miles to express itself, to the tune of X miles at 17-18' walking pace vs X miles at 8-10' running pace. Do the math. How is that bike split going to look as you are walking/shuffling the last 10 miles of the run? Every time you feel yourself about to get stupid, look at where you are. Are you at The Line? No. Then sit down, shut up, do what you're told and don't be stoopid. Please.
Rich w/ EN absolutly cracks me up !! There is not a PC bone in his body !!!!!!! LOLO Yes...should have quoted him but he is great!! |

The nerves are jangling and I can't seem to focus on anything else. Looks like a pretty strong strong storm system coming through this afternoon in Houston - got a continual eye on the 10day forecast too! |

New user 100 Spring, Texas | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas I am so ready for this race! Had a weird tweak in my lower leg after Sunday's speed session and it hurt quite badly. Since the run is my strength, this was a serious development. Rested it for a few days, and tested it out today with no trouble. Not sure what the issue was, but it isn't an issue anymore! Picking the bike up from the shop tomorrow. The weatherman's long range forcast is freaking me out. Calling for almost an inch of rain and a watch for severe thunderstorms on race day. That would truly reach a galactic level of suckdom. Could the race be cancelled/postponed a day if it was too nasty?
By the way, did you see the news about Ironman China? They're a week out and they've already had to cancel the swim. Apparently the local government didn't communciate with the local sports authority and the reservoir they were going to swim in has some work being done on it so no swim. Full refunds are being offered. |

Expert 1083 The Woodlands, TX | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas johnandkristy - 2011-05-12 3:07 PM AccuWeather also forecasts 42MPH gusts on race day!! Luckily we're still over a week out so they have plenty of time to fix that I am just hoping they don't decide to get the forecast right (for the first time ever) with this one! Lightening struck a tree half a block off the course, right outside my work window about 15 minutes ago. My ears are still ringing. As bad as it looks / sounds out there it's still very minimal rainfall. The winds earlier were some of the worst I'd ever seen. |

New user 100 Spring, Texas | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas I really don't care about the rain. Bring it. But if they say severe thunderstorm, that means lightning, and that means the possibility of a cancellation. For those that aren't from this area of the country, when it storms here, it doesn't mess around. We can go months without any rain and then it comes down in biblical fashion with Zeus and Thor getting in on the action, too. Of course, my anxiety probably stems from the fact that the first day of my first ever MS150 was cancelled (the first time in 25 years they had to cancel a day because of weather). We were able to ride teh second day, but I don't know if there is such a thing for IM. |

Supported open water swim put on by Negaitve Split and the Tri Community. If you're not a member of Triple Threat or Negative Split or North Texas Multisport, then it's $10 to swim and sign a waiver...I think.

What changes do you plan on making if it is raining with severe thunderstorms? Any changes to the bike setup or run plans? At least we won't have to pack any rain jackets to keep us warm and dry. |

Well, I've had many a meal from several in Austin, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio and haven't had an incident . . . yet. But I do have to say that Taco Cabana is my FAVORITE place to eat anywhere (and I've eaten at some pretty fancy, over-priced places all over the country, from NYC to Beverly Hills). Of course I only get one thing -- the Chicken Fajita Tacos (complete with the amazing fresh tortillas and TONS of their delicious pico de gallo). |

I would have agreed with you there Erin, about 3 weeks ago. Would definitely give good swimmers an edge. I will probably be the only person wearing one now. Ill see how things turn out during this last week. Stil fighting this hip issue. I have done nothing but swimming this week, and my hip flexor hurts when kicking. Not a whole lot, but it bangs. Slowed my speed down and causes my hips to drop. Legal or not, I think I am going to suit up and stick to a light flutter kick and pull like crazy. Don't think I'll be getting hardware or a Kona slot with this hip anyways. Actually, thinking about it, same would apply even if I was 100 percent! Can't wait for the race to come so I can stop obsessing and worrying. |

A year and a month ago I thought I "pulled" or "tweaked" something in my flexor or quad. Less than 2 weeks later I was on crutches with a stress fracture, even after not running at all after it started hurting. 4 months on crutches, (VERY undertrained for this race), still going to PT a year later. Whenever I read stories like yours (been following on the thread) I get really nervous. |
