Good Morning Team.

Just checking in to say hello. Got back late last night with the golf team - disappointing showing but we have the Ontario College Championships to make up for it next week.

Got up early yesterday for a 5 km run. It was my first one since the HM on Sunday. Legs felt a bit sore out of the gate but I took it easy and slow and just used it as a recovery of sorts. I am looking for any suggestions on recovery from the team. was two days rest after the HM enough before I start to ramp up again?

Tim - sorry about the lap top.

Have a great day everyone.

KC

AHHH no!!! 2 days is not enough to ramp up for a guy that did his first tri this year! lol Take it easy atleast a week just slow runs and more swim/biking.  Someone noted a good stick to use it approx 1 day for every mile to heal.  Now you can still train just remember your not fully healed at the time.

Sucks to hear about the golf team, I still have 1 year of college eligibility (4 for golf lol) left so if you need a player and the other teams will give me 10 strokes a side I am your man.

Tim how exactly did you run over a laptop? I can see leaving it on the roof (wife left Ipad on hers).

Coach - I have some bursary money I can throw at you to entice you but you have to leave Saturday morning with the team for Ottawa Ontario? I could probably find a few fluff courses to put you in? LOL.

Thanks for the hint on the running - I hear there are some great trails to run in the Ottawa / Cornwall Ontario area and I want to run!

Keep me posted on the early season / winter training schedule - I might have some time in March to head south?

FYI - I have not been on my bike in a few weeks - should I be worried about that? I am swimming though.

Have a great night team.

KC

Kevin - I would change the tire.  That is my biggest fear is breaking down 20-30 miles from home.  A tube you can change but if you blow your tire out you are pretty much screwed.

Heather - I agree 100% with David.  Just do your best you can do.  Nothing you can change now so why even worry about it.  I think you will be surprised as to how you will do come actual race day.  Look at how KC did - he had a time he was shooting for in his 1/2 and completely blew it out of the water.

KC - I really think the recovery is based on how you feel.  Take it easy when you start running again but listen to your body.  After my marathon last April I was back to training with one day rest.  Felt fine physically but mentally it ende up hurting me.  It is all based on how you feel.  Me personally I think the 1 day per mile is a a little long to comepletely rest from running.

David - I was leaving inthe morning and getting some band equipment out of my hatch back and set my bag down.  Gorgot my coffee so ran back in house, jumped in car and took off and heard a thump.

And just to add to my great week - I was yelling at my employees and dealing with an angry customer on the phone on my way to work yesterday and didn't realize I was on E and ran out of gas in a cornfield.  Haha.  Awesome.

OK, I am back.  It is time to start training again.  After exactly 1 month from the IM I have started to get back into the swing of my training.  As proof that I race to train, I have decided to run a trail marathon in Bloomington, IN on Dec 3.

2 month training plan started yesterday.  Since it is a trail run, I don't plan on going too fast.  But I sure look forward to getting back into a training program.

sounds fun! I need to find something like that to do in the winter.  Have a guy that we are planning a couple weekend trips down south this winter for heavy training once per month but I need a race to do in Jan/Feb  What race are you doing next year for your A?

Not sure of a A race.  Still waiting on some things to fall into place before I start looking at that.

What do you mean by "weekend trips down south this winter for heavy training "  And what type of race are you wanting to do in the winter?

I found an excelent YouTube video on how to change a tire and tube.  After watching it I realised I did EVERYTHING wrong the first time.  Second time I was able to do it with no problems!  Here's the link if anyone is ineterested.

Good Morning Team.

Just checking in to say hello from Cornwall Ontario - south east of Ottawa Ontario and not far from Montreal Quebec. I am here with the college golf team for the Ontario College Golf Championships and it is cool and rainy - not great golf weather that is for sure. I am here until Wednesday. I am hoping to get a few runs in and the good news is - the hotel has a nice 20 meter pool and I got a solid 2000 meters in this morning before the team got out of bed. Off to the course now for the day.

Have a great day everyone.

Its funny- I have actually had a pretty good September (compared to August) and hope to keep it going for October.

My goals for this month are to really focus on strength training.   One weight training and two core workouts a week.

It is so hard to stay motivated without a race on the calendar.

That said, some friends invited us to do a 5 mile race called "Wine at the Line" at a  local winery last Saturday.  We got there about 7 minutes before the race was to begin.  Registered, lined up and ran.  I got caught up in the adrenaline of the start and took off pretty fast for me.  First mile was 7:05.  Decided to keep going as hard as I could to keep up that RPE.  Also decided to keep track of my progress by counting how many runners I passed from that point vs how many passed me.  Finish time was 37:05.  7:22 average, 53rd out of 735 overall, 5th in my division.  It felt great to run fast again after the long slow distance I worked on all summer.

Planning to race a 15k trail run this saturday.

I am wondering if I am mired in the Ironman shuffle the rest of my life.  (I know better, but going fast has been a chore.)

Races this time of season are just for fun for most.  People tend to be burnt out and just want to finish up with a fun race or two.  I know I struggled the year I did IMFL since its another month from now, tough to stay focused all summer and part of fall.

I may actually do a ride on Sat with a group going 50-100 miles just not sure how fast they are going.  This would be my first workout since the debacle in WI.  Did a 2 mile run monday before doing "insanity" and felt like dog $$$$. lol  Heck my bike still has my gatorade from the race in the bottles, might actually have to clean it up :0

I really want to mountain bike somewhere but it puts a ton of stress on my leg so probably not a good idea.  Anyone else have anything fun going on besides kevin?

So it seems I don't deal well with tapering. I'm driving myself crazy - I'll find myself freaking out about the race, so I'll look at the course map (which just makes it worse 'cause 26.2 miles mapped out looks really far). Today to try to make myself feel better I looked at the route map that I followed on my 20 miler (which helped 'cause even just 20 miles mapped out looks really far...). 10 more days to go.

Oh, and my goal for October is to run a marathon. That's it.

KC- you were in my neck of the woods (I think). Which courses did you play? (although I should clarify, since I'm not completely clear on where you were - I will only know courses around ottawa. If you were in Cornwall, I will have no idea, as I have only ever gone there to cross the border.)Hope everyone is doing well!

yeah you will probably have to clean that up a bit haha.  After my last Olympic race in August I have a bad habit of throwing all my tri stuff in my transistion bags then leaving them in garage for a few weeks until I need something.  Usually not a big deal casue its my wetsuit, tri jersey, bottles, etc...  Except this year my pregnant wife decides she is tired of seeing them laying around the garage and was gonan clean them.  too bad I didn't know that either her or one of the kids threw half a banana in the bag with my jersey.  My wife opens the bag (in the foyer of the house) and a bunch of flies flew out then she looks in and sees maggots - awesome.  She call me up balling because she threw up.  Next year the tri stuff gets cleaned up ASAP -haha

Glad to hear you are getting back in the swing of things.  The weather has been awesome and I was hoping to get a ride in this weekend also but i have promised my son a fishing trip in Wisconsin for the last month for this weekend so thats what I will be doing.

Its gonna be a hot one for the Chicago Marathon this weekend. Hopefully they have enough water and don't run into another 2008 debacle.

Tim - That's a funny story!!

Got a question for everyone out there.  Did my first spin class today and had a great time.  Really want to do it again.  Thing is the Y where I swim does not have spin classes.  I don't really want to pay for two memberships.  Personally I'd rather pay for spin since I can do it from fall until spring and can pay for it monthly.  I only use the Y for six months (Jan until Jun), but have to pay for a full year.  I have somewhere I can do OWS when the weather gets warmer and it's obviously free.  So if I did dry land swim training through the winter and started swimming mid to end May with a tri in JUne would I be ok?

Tim, I hope I don't have the same issue still all in my bags!! LOL

Keith:  I guess it depends on how often you swim vrs how often you will spin.   Also out Y has a price for members and a non member price in all of the classes, you could see if yours will charge extra just for the swim class.   Only you can answer how often everything will be used.  Another option is do you have any other gyms that offer a spin/cycling class you could drop in on?  Good luck I know the feeling with only 1 pool in our town.

Last night was so nice I decided to do workout #2 of my IMNY training with a nice untimed run.  Legs actually felt decent as I ran the back half of the run much faster (atleast felt faster) than the 1st half.  Was so nice to be outside still even though it was dark by 7:15ish.
