Brenda I totally can relate to the college expenses and yes triathlon is such and expensive endeavor. There are sooooo many cool toys out there and for me sooooo little funding to get them all. I agree too the power meter is definitely a worthwhile investment. I am really going to go get one come bonus time next spring.

The best thing about the 910XT is the swimming features, I totally agree with Dirk. I love it for both the pool and the open water. If that is not that important to you the 310XT is a good device. I'm sure there are some more features on the 910XT as well. It's too bad you could not have taken advantage of the deals they had a while back. I think Garmin had them available for like 25% off.

The decision is up to you.  It is a really great deal!!!  If you are inclined to use it you'll get great use of it.  However, if you are like Dina and feel like you are going to just ditch the features and the zone info you're better off with something a bit cheaper.  I absolutely love mine and highly recommend it.  You just have to commit to using it and doing the testing to get the right zones.  Those of us that have the 910 can help you get everything dialed in.  Heck, Lis and I could met you for lunch sometime and I could go over some of it if you like,  But Lis would be bored to tears when that part of the conversation began.

Also, if you opt for the 310 the functionality shouldn't be that different that those of us with the 910 couldn't help.  I imagine everything but the swim has to be very close to each other.

Lisa, Kyrie and I are going to do a 5k for the children's hospital in Indianapolis in a few weeks.  The race is called "Run for Riley" and every dime from the entry fee goes to Riley children's hospital.  The primary sponsors for the race are Aboite Podiatry Associates and Max Fitness and they are providing a really cool 1/2 zip tech shirt and footing the complete bill for these shirts.  I spoke to the RD myself, and he's extremely fired up about a sponsors that will donate so much money to this effort.

Lis decided to do the donation page herself after seeing other ways to raise money and she posted it to her facebook page.  Funny thing was that no sooner than she posted the link to her donation page on facebook, there was an immediate donation.  Lis was driving down the road and got a notification and began to cry (tears of joy) at such a quick response.  Both she and I were overwhelmed that it happened so quickly and we were truly humbled by the donor.

So now, I am asking if any of you feel compelled to donate that yo do so.  I don't want anyone to feel pressured.  Give as you feel lead.  If you don't feel compelled to give, consider doing an event such as this yourself and feel the joy that comes from helping someone outside of your normal circle of influence.

Donate to Riley Childrens Foundation

I could have used all those pool features on the 910 last week when my swim workout was a 30 min time trial! I'm pretty sure I got mixed up counting all those laps .

It's still got some significant swelling in the joint that's being really difficult to get out because I can't compress it out.  It's feels the best in the morning since I have been off of it overnight but throughout the day more fluid returns.

The pain is slowly receding as well but there is still some sharp pain that is associated with the "sweet spot" where the meniscus is torn.  That pain can be somewhat debilitating if climbing down stairs but is pretty minimal when ascending.  When walking it's really not that painful unless I try to move quickly.

I was at the doc on Monday but I didn't see my ortho.  I saw his nurse practitioner who prescribed PT for 2x/wk for 4 wks and a doc re-evaluation on Oct 17.  No MRI, like I feel I need, until at least after I see my ortho.  I will be attempting to talk him into prescribing the MRI at the check up then.  Until then I'll keep with PT and hope to get on the bike and to the pool.  My first PT is early this afternoon and I'll talk to him about riding ASAP so I don't lose anymore fitness.  I'll be checking to  see if I can ride easy to moderate (at least) to at least get my legs moving.  I actually think the spinning would help flush the fluid of my joint.

So, all in all, I am still going to be struggling for a while but I am optimistic with more than 10 months to get ready for IMWI.  My optimism is not to be confused with confidence though.  I'm pretty nervous!

I always hated trying to keep track of my number of laps for long sets!  The watch is a huge advantage there.  I became confident with my 500's counting over time because my time splits were very close but once at 1000 yards all bets were off.  Normally though I don't do many 1000 yard sets.

Dirk, hang tough. I would pester my ortho...if it has to be operated on, it is better to go ahead and do it instead of waiting.

Will, you are gonna do so good in the IM!

Brenda, good luck on your purchase...

Well son's fall ball season kicked off last night w/ a double header...it is a relaxed season where everyone gets to play so I'm not to excited about it...I guess they are trying to get some playing time for the players that won' ge to play in the spring season. My son played SS and made some EXCELLENT plays and 0 errors.

This weekend we are doing a very relaxed HM, not sure if it will be timed or not, just getting the mileage in. My race HM is in about 3 weeks.

Hope everyone is doing well!

Glad your son had a good game, KARL.   When you say "we" are doing a relaxed HM this weekend is Pam doing it with you?  How's her injuries from her fall healing?

Bit the bullet and bought the 910XT.  I know I'll need some guidance and I'd love to come to Ft. Wayne and have lunch with Lisa (OK, you can be there too, DIRK) but we wouldn't tri talk for Lisa's sake.  Smile

Dirk thanks for give us all an update on your knee. I'm hoping in continues to improve for you and like I've been saying don't worry you will have plenty of time to get ready. Consider the down time your offseason and then once you are feeling better you can start your outseason work. I think Warren bought this up already but as long as you have are good to go 20 weeks before the IM you should be fine, plenty of time to get ready for it.

Karl glad to hear that your son played well and good luck on the upcoming HM's that you are planning to run. Hope Pam is feeling better as well.

Dina I always lose count at the pool but before I got the 910XT I used a swimovate watch. It is a great watch for pool swimming, no lap buttons to hit and it was very accurate for me. It's a great watch and it's a lot less expensive then a Garmin.

Brenda congrats on getting the 910XT, you are going to love once you start using it. I don't think I've even come close to using it to it's full potential but I really love it for the swim features.

Brenda enjoy!!!!

Pam is doing the HM too. She is so excited, she just got her parts (legs) of the Ragnar in TN. She has a hard, then medium, then hard leg to run...Since she is a computer geek, I bet she goes on-line and gets the elevation of her segments.... now me on the other hand, I wouldn't want to know...no since dreading a big hill or anything, just take what the course gives you...lol

karl, good luck in your race, I think HM is my favorite distance for running. It's long enough to make you have a game plan, but short enough you can torture yourself and still recover relatively quickly!

Will, your race is coming up soon? The miles seem to be adding up well, your going to nail this down.

Brenda, I think that 910 has too many functions for you, but since I am so nice I am willing to trade you my Forerunner 305 straight up for your 910! I will even throw in a slightly used, soggy HR monitor .

!

On my end I am still having trouble finding motivation. I am running more and picking up the effort there, but I still cannot make time to get back on the bike. It just seems like so much work to get everything together and go for a ride and I am definitely not ready to break out the trainer.

Matt I know what you mean about the bike. Today I broke out the hybrid. Somehow it is more easy going for me on that bike even though I am pushing so much harder just to make it go!

Brenda congratulations on the watch!

Tony I checked out the swimovate. Which one did you have, the poolmate or the pro? And I saw on Amazon that Garmin has a swim specific watch too. Hmmm, might have to put this on my Christmas list!

And see, this is why I don't sign up for races in advance. That race I was aiming for this Saturday has cancelled due to the government shut downs! No refunds either. Glad I saved my money. I almost pulled the trigger on Saturday but something made me hold back.

Enjoy all of your son's baseball games because he won't be playing sooner than you think and all of the days of baseball games will be behind. I am not one for baseball but it sounds like your son had a solid game.

Enjoy your HM's too!  I love HM's!  They are so easy to train for.  They don't require exorbitant amounts of time and miles and you can carry lower base than for longer distances.  If I weren't enjoying triathlon so much I would do multiple HM's a year.

Lis and I would love to do lunch some time but we have to talk about your new toy!  Once you get it in hand and begin to question what in the world is going on, shoot Lis or myself a text and we'll set a time and place for lunch.  Word of warning, I am working Friday's right now and Lis is really busy at work too, so a weekday lunch may be out of the question until November.

Wow!  You are so considerate Matt!  I'm sure Brenda will give serious consideration to your proposal.

I am ready to get on the trainer myself.....................Since that's the best way for me to ride right now according to my PT.  He told me I can ride but nothing out of the saddle and no hill climbing.  I plan to change my tire to my trainer tire today or tomorrow and begin to start back on the bike.

I am going to start working myself back into the water too.  Last night was my first swim in nearly 2 months.  They shut the pool down for over a month and then I have been more busy than I would normally expect to be.

Either way, I am very happy to get back into a groove!  Or at least I will be once I reestablish a pattern.

Dina I have the poolmate. It is a very good pool watch for the cost. It counts laps automatically and you don't have to hit any lap buttons. It also counts your intervals so you can have the time and distance for each interval and for the total swim session. I really like it and it is a very good alternative for the more costly devices.

Dirk glad to hear you are getting back int the pool and that you can start doing some bike work on the trainer. Just be careful you don't over do it with the intensity of your trainer rides. I also wanted to wish you a Lisa and Happy Anniversary today. I hope you guys have something nice planned.

I also have to agree with everyone on the HM. It's a great distance to run and not a difficult distance to train for. I haven't run a standalone HM in two years maybe I should look to run one or two come spring time.

Well my MTN bike is in but I could not get down to the LBS to pick it up yesterday. I'd go today but I'm in the same boat as Dirk, it's our wedding anniversay today so the MTN bike will have to wait until Friday. Joyce and I are definitely going out to dinner tonight. She already told me I'm driving so I'm guessing she is planning to have a drink or two lol. I'm looking forward to it, hard to believe 26 years have gone by that fast. It certainly doesn't seem like it.

Oh Wow, lot's of wedding celebrations going on for the Junkies. 26 years is no joke Tony, congratulations!

I think the feedback from coach about my swim stroke is already paying off. I finally got back under 1:30 for a hundred today 1:26. Yeah, progress! It was only 1 but it still felt good. I think my next swim is something like 30 x 100 so I'll have plenty of chances to repeat ha ha ha.

Dina thanks I really appreciate that and you know Dirk and Lisa are celebrating 26 years as well today. That is so ironic that we share the same wedding anniversary. I'm guessing great minds think alike lol.

Nice job on the swim today, I totally envy you being able to swim that fast but I'm happy to see your hard work paying off. About the 30x100's are you training for an IM or something that we don't yet know about?

Ha ha, nope. I recently started following along with some online swim workouts posted on a website called Magnolia Masters. Since my back is better I've finally decided to put up or shut up with my swimming so it's time to get to work. I feel like I have a lot more potential than my race results show, my back is better, so...no more excuses.

Thanks for the anniversary well wishes Tony!  Until I read your post I had forgotten that we share the same wedding dates exactly.  Lisa and I went to sinner but had no big plans at all.  She's been feeling pretty bad the past few days and finally went to the doc.  She has sinusitis and is feeling drained and tired as well as having headaches.  We did have a great dinner and splurged a little at one of the nicer restaurants in Fort Wayne and it even took us almost 2 hours to get our full meal in.

Dina,  It looks like a great new 100 PR.  One time or not, a 1:26 is incredible!  Congrats on setting the new record and getting in the pool on a regular basis again.  But about those 100's?  Are you doing those on a time interval and if so, what is the target for the workout?  Tempo?  Endurance?  Is there any threshold work?

Hopefully I'll be back to riding today sometime.  I have been way off track for a number of weeks and it can been seen pretty easily.  I can tell I've picked up weight and the lack of training time is impacting most of my mind.  I'll be planning to  try and hit the pool and bike a few times in the next 2-3 days but I have been pretty unsuccessful recently.  The added day at work is really cramping my available time by completely removing Fridays as a workout day.  By the time I get home from work it's supper time and we always have a little bit of something going on on Friday evenings.  It's never much but just enough that I can't come home and get any workouts in.  The extra work will be over (supposedly) at the end of October but I'll wait to make any real plans.

Congratulations on your anniversaries!!

Brenda congrats on your recent purchase

Karl to you and Pam good luck on your HM and that is awesome at your son is doing so great in baseball

Matt I hope you get your bike motivation back soon, I am still like that with swimming I went the one day a week or so ago and still havent gone back, I even signed up for Masters Swim and have yet to go not sure what's up with me on that.....

Dina a year or so ago I bought a sport count lap counter if you haven't seen it it just wraps around your finger it was like 20.00 and it tracks laps, time your average etc and has worked well for me you can find them at www.sportcount.com

October is crazy for us at the salon we do Pink hair extensions both in salon and at outside locations plus we are having a pink party on the 19th all our donation go to a Aurora ( local health care system) and specifically to Team Pheonix, these are breast cancer survivors who get needed equipment and trained to do the IronGirl! We are hoping to raise at least 5,000.00 this

During this " off season" I am learning how to go easy with 90% of my workouts. All these years I have always trained hard with every workout no wonder I burnt out lol

So yesterday I finally found the courage to go to the cemetery. My dad died 8 yrs ago and my mom 3. I have never been able to go, I sat an sobbed....I miss them both so much....My mom died the day after I opened the second salon along with that My brother, hurried us all thru the whole funeral process and I felt like I never really had a chance to say good by to her, and i believe this all was a big part of why that location failed, and since then my family has sort of fell apart it is unfortunate but I guess all i can do is look at myself and pray that i can be a better person today than I was yesterday. I am defefnitly feeling better after " talking" with my parents, i also want to say to all of you is THANK YOU for all of your guidance and support in everything you guys are an awesome group of people!!!!!
Happy Friday!!!
