Master 2020 | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Justin Scheele - 2011-08-08 7:12 PM I have a question about a situation that is freaking me out. My bike is currently in the shop getting fixed. Just found out today that the shop closed it's doors (possibly bankruptcy). What do I do? I'm planning on making telephone calls tomorrow, but I'm lost right now. Any advice would be appreciated since Louisville is 20 days away. I have a Schwinn I'll use for plan B, but would rather ride my Felt. Did you know anyone that worked at the shop? I would be calling anyone and everyone trying to get a contact who can help you. This happened in Chicago a few years ago and it was a while before some of the people got their bikes back. What size bike would you need? |

Expert 1128 Fort Riley, Kansas | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread I am a little worried about the swim now. I am now unable to swim twice a week because of shoulder pain. When I rest it for a week and get back in the pool I swim at least 3000. The shoulder pain doesn't affect my cycling or running. I did a 2.4 open water swim race in 1:36 July 2nd and hope I haven't lost much swim fitness from that point, my only goal is to get through the swim as its my biggest worry of the day, if I can get through the swim I know I will be ok the rest of the day. |

Veteran 329 | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Great news, Justin! A potentially troubling situation worked out. Hopefully you can find a reputable LBS in your area to properly service your bike for you. Jillian--good luck with the shoulder. Fortunately for me,I have never had the shoulder issues with swimming that so many people tend to get. I have heard that you should concentrate on making sure your arm doesn't cross the middle plain of your body when doing the pull. Not sure how accurate that is, but may be worth a look. Best of luck!

Thanks, I am just frustrated, I am just venting about it. I have had this problem for over a month and promised my family I would see a doctor about it after ironman. I had the same problem for the Muncie HIM, and took the week before the race off swimming, and did just fine in the HIM swim with no pain during the race. |

Regular 99 Holland, Mich. | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Justin: So glad you got your bike back! What a relief! And no more separation anxiety. A coupla years back I took a nasty crash running into a construction sign ... I know, duh. When I "woke up" about 15 feet in front of the bike, a very nice, concerned small crowd was around me. Crowd: "Are you all right, dude?" Me: "Yes" (though I had painful separated shoulder, road rash, and later got "lost" trying to ride back home after the crash. But my second statement was "But how is my BIKE?" |

New user 35 Springfield, IL | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Wow, lots of injuries and sickness going around! Hope everyone gets well soon! Jillian- With the swim, I worry about losing the feel for the water when I take long periods off. Maybe just try to get in the water and not swim, just do some 'laying on your side' kicking down and back a few times just to keep working on your balance in the water. It sounds like you're going to be just fine considering the way your HIM went in Muncie. Good luck, we're all rooting for you to get better! Ashleigh |

Regular 118 Marietta, GA | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Jillian, You may want to research the symptoms of shoulder impingement (aka swimmers shoulder). I had this same problem before IMKY last year and did some at home exercises and therapy to help cope and then did a minor adjustment to my stroke to keep it from happening again. On the stroke modification, I followed the the Total Immersion method to help with correct body roll and stroke mechanics.
Good luck. |

Veteran 118 Somerset, PA | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Jillian - I wouldn't worry about losing any swim fitness in the last few weeks. I took most of last week off from swimming due to a vacation with the family and actually felt better in the pool yesterday. I think it was a blessing in disguise to take the time out of the pool. Try to swim a bit once a week just keep the stroke mechanics going but you already have the swim fitness you need.Peter B |

Veteran 140 | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Just heard from a friend who is a volunteer section leader, what ever that means for IM Louisville. They are addressing the bike aid station deficiencies of last year--several latter stations ran out of water and had to recycle discarded water bottles and fill with a garden hose. This will not be a problem this year he promises. I was a little concerned about this as I am a herculean sweater in 90+ weather. Just wanted to pass along. Also, they are going to try and prevent family/friends from holding positions in the swim start line...not opening swim line until transition opens at 500am...I say good luck. I still would like the full 17 hours just in case..you know.. Someone may have posted this already; if so, please ignore and get back to your tapering. Doc |

Expert 868 CALEDONIA/MIDDLEVILLE, MICHIGAN | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Doc- I'll be on the line early as well. My family might 'camp out' on the grassy knoll (not in line, but near). I've been encouraging my wife to simply drop me off, go back to the hotel, sleep, then come back, but she wants to drag the kids along for the 'full experience'. I will still try to persuade her to go with my plan however. Ash- I was going to have shirts made up for my fam. They seemed excited about it when they saw other families last time, but when I brought it up they said, "Nah." I was going to make them generic enough so they could be used at other events, such as "Wilkinson Triathlon Team". |

Extreme Veteran 683 Cleveland Area | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Just checking to see if anyone is coming to race solo as I am now due to family members dropping out and first days of school for the kids. I have a suite at the host hotel and don't need all that room for just me. I'm coming in Friday thru Sunday night and was wondering if there was anyone going solo who might want to cheapen the costs for both of us, he'll three if more than one. Please let me know if anyone fits this bill. ....... Adam |

Expert 868 CALEDONIA/MIDDLEVILLE, MICHIGAN | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread cmsamp3-No, nothing comes in the mail to you. Go to the IMLOU website. Go to the "Athletes" tab. Verify you name is there (Look under age group, then find your name and bib #). Also under the "Athletes" tab you will find the 2011 schedule, and the "Athlete's Guide". I haven't checked this morning, but the 2011 one has not yet been posted. |
